do players who have better HJ have an advantage in online races? does their car go better or faster? because even on the straight where we are roughly the same, they overtake me with great ease.

Propably your input device doesnt register full throttle.

If the bar at 19 does not go up to the top (the same lenght bar 16 has INCLUDING the red part), then you should check why your input device doesnt register all your input.

No, neither driver rating nor sportsmanship rating have any impact on how a selected car performs.
It only represents the skills a player has - and this can have huge impact on time difference.

I still guess, it is your input device.

It's almost certainly this or the brakes being lightly on. While you're checking the throttle input for fullness, @kokavnik, also check to make sure that the brake input on the opposite side isn't registering anything.
