Mercedes SL 55 AMG vs BMW M5 would be a good fight on the 'Ring.
Nay. The E55 vs. the M5.

Anyways, the Pontiac GTO is only a rebadged Holden Monaro. The reason it sounds different is because the GTO has a tuned exhaust in real life. That is what gives it the extra power. Also, the GTO has 400 HP now in real life because GM unnesicarily shoved a 6.0 liter engine in it instead of the 5.7 it used to have.

The GTO has a different front end, suspension tuning, engine tuning including air intake setup, and a better tuned exhaust system. The 6.0L engine is coming to Australia for the HSV range.

The Ford Falcon range (inc. FPV) have not yet been designed for the American market as the US unions are concerned about jobs in their car industry. The Monaro only made it over because there was no directly compatible vehicle in the GM line up, and they agreed to do the conversions mostly in the US, not Australia.

As for the handling characteristics of the FPVs and Holdens. Ford has always designed the chassis for the Falcon with more understeer built in as this is considered safer than oversteer for road driving. Holden designs its Commodores closer to neutral, making them better sports cars (generally) but it also becomes harder to put the power down.
