I think the movement is way too exaggerated for a driving sim. Impressive engineering though. Dread to think what his electricity bill must be like!

I think that would make me puke my guts out...honestly though Pure is correct, the movement of the cockpit it way too exaggerated for auto racing...

From what I've read you need that kind of movement to make it feel like actual racing.

I think you probably need this sort of movement too.

Its probably better to play in the dark so you remove the visual effect of the room moving around.

Dont forget that even if this tipped completely on its side for a corner, it would only generate 1g, as it is its going nowhere near 90 degrees so will feel considerably less.

Would love to have a try of it. Not sure i could cope with it for a few hours though!

Andy.

This.

Even this (or everthing) will never will feel like the real thing, but this could generate some serious g forces.

But this will never be available cross platform, just PC and a very limited number of games

Yup the f1 simulators the teams use have a similar setup. This is the best current way to accurately model g-forces. Of course it would be crap with the lights on but in a darkroom where the only light is coming from the screens this would be insane.

Wow that would be amazing with a flight Sim

way over the top for a driving Sim though, even for F1.
If it could be dialled down a bit so the movement was way more subtle, then that would feel pretty awesome.

I wouldnt think it would last as long as a normal tv but I dont see any immediate problem as long as its securely mounted where there is no movement from the tv and the frame. No moving parts in a lcd except the cooling fans so everything should be securely mounted.

Where's the cup holder, I mean barf bag.

I imagine this is fun for a short stint, but as a dedicated rig this is just too much movement.

I wonder how this effects the possibility of seizures that video games already have.

I have seen that video posted on this forum before about a year ago. Though making that kind of rig is out of the hands of most DIY'ers.

I have to say from my own experience that it does make me faster driving in that type of rig. I tried a similar rig from Force Dynamics, the 301 2 years back. Really expensive but I still have trouble matching that lap times at home. I paid €70 for a hour, but the staff was really nice and let me play for 1½ hour.

Movements are not exaggerated.

Nissan GTR can do at least 1 lateral G, that would mean the the seat would be at horizontal during turns. And most supercars and race cars can do more.

This would be the same for supercars and racecars during braking and acceleration.

That seems best for monster trucks. :)

One bad dude with the Grave Digger hat on at the end.

Jeremy Clarson even hurt his neck when driving the GTR sideways.

I think during drifts G force are usally at 1.2 -1.6 g's

The mouvement might seem to be exaggerated, but it needs to simulate the g force and therfor need to take this inclinasion and it looks like it does a stunning job at it.

The little actuators of the Dbox can never achieve this.

But these cost so much... need a lot of space.... and only work with some games.

But if i would be a millionaire. direct buy :D

Maybe if it was enclosed so you couldn't get the visual clues that it was tilting so much it might feel real, then again it might just make you violently sick !

If you check out my website http://www.christopherzoechling.com and go into the race videos section, you can see my last race in the Porsche GT3 CUP hitting sometimes 1.8 - 2.0 G... and thats on the Nurburgring Nordschleife and GP Track...

In single seater's i used to hit 3-4 G, especially at laguna Seca, the left hander after Cork Screw, was meassuered with 3.6 G

Chris

Well hop on this guys crazy machine and tell us if it feels anything like the real thing ;-)

Rather than spend that kind of money on a sim you could just buy an old mx5 and a set of stickies and actually race in real life. I have poop loads of fun autocrossing (solo as most call it) in a stock mazda 3 and its cost is minimal unless you get serious, the car sticks to the road better than I can stay in the seat, need a harness to keep me in there, slick leather seats and sharp turns = lol.

BTW chris when GT5 finally comes out let me know if the ring feels anything like it does in real life (have you tried it in NFS Shift?)

D-box can actually provide up to 2Gs of acceleration. The problem is the G-forces are not sustained it is just a 1 time type deal during a turn or w/e. This is the problem w/ all motion Sims none really simulate sustained g-forces. FYI I have a d-box setup.

Shouldn't get sick with this rig as long as your reference point remains the Tv screen. The only thing he will feel is the straps tugging at his body when he brakes and the force of being pushed into the seat when accelerating and turning. That is the purpose of the "extreme" motions. Unlike other motion systems that may provide a temporary bump or feeling of a slide, this rig can provide a more realistic and elongated feeling of the forces associated with racing.

Now, if he starts looking around the room or can't figure out how to pause the game or maybe his wife walks in to nag him........look out. :scared:
