How about more races involving race cars.

GT4 had a multitude of races, no doubt, but in my opinion, I think we could use more races involving race cars. For instance the Le Mans GT1 and would be GT1 class cars i.e. GT-R LM concept and 350Z LM concept are all, but useless. The only race you really use any of them for is the All American Championship and you can only use the American ones. Sure there are other races they can be used in, but they are either overkill, or way out of their league. And yes I know these cars always race in a field of multiple classes, but when there aren't class winners, it is pointless, like putting the GT LM concept in a field of six when the other five cars are LMP's or Group C cars.
I just really think we could use more diversity in the races involving race cars.

i see your point Superhero Wally ,but for me gran turismo is all about production car racing. There are very good racecar simulators like gtr ,so i dont realy want it in GT.

I agree. If you're going to include a wide variety of race cars - you should be able to run them in a competetive enviroment. Cars like the Chaparrals and Toyota 7 are almost useless in GT4 unless you spec them right up. I know most people see the GT series as a 'road car' game, but for me, if you are going to run cars around a race track surely a race car is what you want to be running?

I do get enjoyment from racing the road cars but the main event for me is competing with full racing cars. I would really like to see the 'racing mods' option return for GT5.

I absolutely agree with you.👍

Whats the point of having a Chaparral 2J & 2D and the Toyota 7 if there is no race event for them? Yeah, you can use the cars for the World champoinship event, but isnt it odd to drive a 37 year old car against Group-C cars and a Camaro LM?

I hope GT5 features things like a Can-Am world event where only racing cars from 1970-1975 are allowed, and a Group-C festival, and with 24 hour races where only cars from the same time are allowed. (not LMGTP's mixed up with Group C's)

You're complaining that made-up cars that don't have a real world racing league don't have a place to race in a video game?

A custom tournament editor would solve this problem. So lazy people like i could download user-made races from web :)

The Nissan 350Z LM and Nissan Skyline GT-R LM are fantasy cars, they are not only not designed to fit into any real world racing category, but would be fairly illegal in some racing series.

No, it's not just the made up cars, that was just an example, as others have stated there is no real place to race such cars as the Chapparals, or the the likes of the Ford GT40(original). Besides made up race cars(del sol LM and FTO LM there are others as well, both from GT1, the FTO LM has stuck around through all 4 games) have been in the GT series from the beginning, and there has always been somewhere to race them.

True, but they are fairly close in concept to a fair few existing race series. Not far off some of the GT classes like LeMans have used over the years, which is probably why PD decided to ad the 'LM' bit at the end.

It would be hard or expensive for PD to use real, officially licenced race series for their games, which is why they have similar 'made up' series instead.

I definetly agree group C should have its own style of event so should LMP's its slightly annoying to see them mixed together, there are enough cars of each catagory for this to be sorted easily

One of the two major dissapointments for me in GT4 was that there was no road racing event for the rally car and GT300 or similarly specced race cars, and there was no globall GTS or similarly specced cars category. There was an American GT series where you could race cars with thoes specs but you could only enter America cars. Cars like the lister Storm, XJ220 LM, CLK-GTR ect didn't have a proper place to race. Even if they occasionally popped up in another series they'd be outgunned by the LMP and group C cars they were racing against. And where the hell was a 900bhp Vertigo supposed to fit in? The events in GT4 were a mess imo, too many of them were far too similar and there was too many cars that didn't fit into any of them well enough.

GT4 was so full of content that I never noticed those specific ommissions, although I did notice a large number of cars without any obvious place to race.

Unfortunately the problem is not only evident with the race cars. It is also blatantly obvious in the classics races. Why are the AC427 and Fiat 500 pitted against each other when the Fiat has no chance of coming anywhere but last? Why has the Model T Ford nowhere to race, and nothing appropriate to race against? I hope that PD will round out the car selection in GT5 such that every car has an appropriate opponent to race against.

I believe the vision for GT5 includes user created content such as an online 'event builder' where you would be able to create your own ALMS or Can Am race. My fear is that if PD doesn't start listening to it fans - particularly those outside of Japan, then this fan created content is going to make the official content look decidedly second rate.

Chapparals and the Toyota 7 are there for historic reasons. Or do you want more cars to race the Ford Model T against too?

This in my opinion is an excellent ideal ! One that I have touched on from time to time in variuos other threads. Something that could be used for online mode, simulation mode and arcade mode.

2007-AUGUST, I am back with a few additional suggestions. While in arcade or family cup mode give us the ability to change the A.I. line up.
1) pick the cars that A.I. use even from your own garage
2) change the starting order for all cars even yours
3) give us the ability to do quick tune to A.I., except I would want a few
more quick tunning options.
4) also allow us to save maybe up to a dozen to perhaps 50 or maybe even
unlimited pre-race settings.
5) change no. of laps at start of race with-out going to a differnt menu.

I think with a good variety of pre-race requirements and things like I just mentione, people could easily create their dream races.

I agree wholeheartedly. One thing that has to happen for these various race series is a system of homologation, so that one or a few cars don't outperform the others. PD can code a system of adjustments per race for each car, so that they balance out performance wise. This way, you can have cars that can be fit to different races and not be stuck in one. With user built leagues, tournaments and events, this will give them the freedom to compile a list of cars and GT5 will take care of the adjustments, rather than the tourney builder going through the headache of judging each car themselves.

This was an issue with Forza, as each race car unlocked had increasingly better performance, sometimes a quantum jump, so that competing online was a pain. Ferraris and Saleens dominated, so those excellent cars had to be banned. You also had several cars which were nice on their own but were essentially worthless in a race. Turn 10 is working on this very issue with Forza 2, so that you can pick almost any car within reason, and be able to race competitively on or offline. As this is what happens in real racing anyway, I'm sure Kaz and the lads are on this as well.
