Um what? The majority are left hand drive. A right hand drive Golf R would only be sold in the UK and Japan.
Don't forget Malaysia, where I live, we drive on the left too. A friend of mine has a Golf R.
I hate to use the "if you don't like this game play something else" excuse, but this time there's just no way around it. If it really bothers you to drive a right-hand drive car to the point where it affects your enjoyment of the game, then you really shouldn't be playing a Japanese game. Go play Forza, there are more left-hand-drive cars there.
Let me list down why making cars that originate from countries that drive on the right side of the road left-hand drive only is completely unfeasible. Firstly, as a lot of people have commented before me, a lot of the cars that Polyphony added into GT5 are modelled from Japanese market cars (which is why some of the cars have taller number plate holders). Now, the Golf R and Scirocco R are UK market cars (regular-sized number plate holders), which must mean that they were done during a trip to the UK (perhaps while they were scanning Silverstone). That doesn't mean that all cars in the game are right-hand-drive all the Ferraris in the game, for example, are left-hand-drive. Polyphony are simply modelling cars in a way that is convenient to them, and they should can you imagine how much longer the process would be if they had to travel out of the country every time they needed to model a left-hand drive car?
Also, for those of you who think making a left-hand drive car out of a right-hand drive one is as simple as flipping the interior model and moving the interior textures around, well, I'm afraid that's just not the case. Take the Focus ST featured in the game, for example. On the right-hand drive car, the handbrake is on the left-hand side of the centre console:
But on the left-hand drive car, that handbrake stays in the same place:
Which means that if they modelled the ST's dashboard in one piece (and I reckon they did) they would have to spend precious time cutting out parts of the dashboard model before flipping it. And they'd have to check their entire car roster and do this whole procedure to every other car that has this sort of configuration. Added to that having to reassign all of the dashboard textures and all the potential problems that could happen when flipping a 3D model and...it's just too much work. It's a cool concept, having that option, and I'm sure someone at Polyphony already has that idea and would love to do it them being the perfectionists they are but I rather their efforts be spent somewhere else.
