how bout some slicks??

i think that they should have slicks, so that my quarter mile time can match my trap speed. i get 135mph trap speeds in my Infiniti G20 but only get into the low 12's when really that kind of trap speed is good for 10's.

What is this? Slicks is in effect tyres without treads, and that is exactly how the racingtyres in GT are set. So slicks is already in. This has to be a joke!

Actually I remember seeing some GT4 F1 picture in the forums here showing the treads on the F1 tyre.
Maybe thats just for the F1 tyres though, but they shouldn't name them racing tyres as well then.

F1 cars have two or three tread lines on them full slicks arn't allowed in F1, so if GT has than on the FGT cars I'm impressed. In the tune shop the tyre description for all the racing tyre's you can buy for a car clearly states that they are slick tyre's. It's worth noting alot of dragster run on wider tyre's than standard road cars and road race cars, if the rubber is wider the contact patch with the road is wider, so that means the friction is greater thus resulting in more grip. Also remember, tyre's designed for 1/4 mile sprints only have to last a 1/4 mile, on a road race car they have to last a substatial ammount longer, even with the softer compounds available.

The tires you describe are "Slicks," but not Road-racing slicks, like the tires in the game. the tires you want are Wrinklewall, super sticky Drag tires. and GT doesn't have the simulation algorithim to run those kind of tires.

but drag racing, in my opinion, don't belong in Gran Turismo. if you want a REAL drag racer, IHRA Drag Racing is a good, if graphics-challenged, simulator of real, professional drag racing.

Gran Turismo has slicks. just not drag slicks.

I think it would be really cool to see drag races in GT5.
Honestly, it's something very exciting with brutal power and demands alot of the car. If GT5 could simulate this well it would be VERY exciting trust me.

I hope they get the mix just right for once, I hope they will make racing like it should be, completely with sound, visuals and REAL physics instead of the other-way-around physics I have noticed lately. Some phyisics in GT4 are just completely the oposite of RL.

If drag racing is include I would really want to see the the stress on the car, the stress on the tyres, the amazing noise of those massive engines, and how it looks to go that fast. Together with a realistic environment.

For GT5, it would be really nice to just use the space of the PS3 to make GT4 better but more importantly: more complete. GT4 is still very limited if you ask me. And to come to a conclusion, I think tyres should be simulated well that way. More different types of tyres. And I would love to burn some skidmarks with those extra sticky drag slicks:P

You might need to convince Polyphony to do a Drag game, then.

The physics are so different and cars so specialized in Drag racing, you'd almost have to do a different game. A drag setup relies on weight transfer to the rear wheels. the quicker you do that, the faster you launch. however, Sports cars, oval cars, Formula cars, Rally cars, Drift cars...they all rely more on cornering weight transfer and can be simulated relatively well by GT's Physics engine. sure, it's not perfect. but it does it fairly well.

But a F1 car will never drag like a Pro Stock. those two cars are worlds apart when it comes to the way they are.

Thats easy to check yourself. The tyres have treads when you´re on a wet track, and thats it! Otherwise the FGT´s tyres are in effect slicks.

Well in real life the same physics are applied to drag racing and in F1 right? If it's possible in real life, then it must be possible to add one "set" of physic in a game with 2 different types of racing somehow.

As for Team66, that can be true, I dont know about that, it's very likely though cause I remember I saw the treads on a picture of Tsukuba, wich has a wet version of the track. I dont actually remember if I saw the wet track version though, but it's very likely:tup:

It's possible to add the physics in a game to cover everything, in theory, the problem is the game engine and/or the console reaches it's limits. They can only cope with so many calculations per second and including physics to cover even more different tasks means more calculations per second, then you times thoes calculations by each tyre, then again by the number of cars on the track, it's not simple. It's possible, it should be possible on the PS3, but we'll have to wait and see.

Thats the conclusion most topics turn out on;)
But it's just fun to think that it's not impossible. It might actually be possible.

Just imagining what the PS3 might actually be able to do is quite fun:dopey:

what would be awesome is if they put drag slicks in the game, and in turn allowed you to pull the front tires (wheelies) on the launch given you had a correct suspension setup in a rwd car.

I really can´t see dragracing as a part of the GT series, atleast not in a more professional way, ie, no top fuel or funnycars etc. Sure, it would be fun, but if cars like that were to be implemented, I would like to be able to drive them on other places than just the 1/4 mile. A pro Stock @ the ring... :D

It would be good fun to mix and match too. Like the HKS Skyline from GT2. I would love to take a Top Fuel dragster around LeMans. That would be good for a laugh. :)

i think you should be able to change the weather, so you neww slicks, semi-slicks, and wet tires, now that would be proper racing! I was thinking of this the other day as well!
