I need some help, how can I make a stock (with oil change) Jaguar XJ220 reach 217 mp/h in final gear?Could someone get me some gear ratios, final, auto etc...

thanks.:)

I reached 202 mph stock, and I seriously doubt you can reach 217 mph without more power. Is there any reason why you ask this?

Bet it can be done ;)

By stock, what parts are fitted as far as tuning settings is concerned? Do you have Fully Customisable Suspension, a rear wing, LSD? The suspension and wing in particular will be a huge help, if we're allowed to use those I'm pretty confident it's possible. Now I hand you to MS, who I see is about to take over ;)

Well In real life a Jaguar XJ220 reached 217 mp/h on the Nardo circuit,so I want to do it on the test track.I've reached 203 with slighty changed ratios, but that was it.

I agree that you can gain some speed with the same power by optimising certain parts. The jump from 202 to 217 mph is fairly big though...

I fit all parts but a rear wing, like Weight reduct and so on.

Still pending on that one

Please try to avoid double-posting, topgeardude, there is an 'Edit' button in the bottom right-hand corner of all of your posts. Use it.

If you want to get the most potential out of the car, you will need to fit a rear wing. But there's only so much gearing can do for you, we will have to move to suspension tuning. Although, I'm not prepared to give away all the secrets for that just yet...

What about that downforce, then?

Oh, nice to know I have a little reputation around here. :)

Totally stock, you cannot change the gear ratios at all on the XJ220. The only thigs modifiable are a few things under suspension, and driving aids. I was able to reach 203.25mph first time out on the track, which is more or less the fastest you can get completely stock.

You mention you want gear ratios though, so you've at least modified the car in some way. Exactly what upgrades are you allowing? Give me a list, and I'll see if it can do 217mph with those parts. 👍

well, without a wing there would be about 50 roadcars less in the 300mph Club-thread..
Can you give me the short version of how increased downforce improves the top speed? I know it improves grip on the backwheels (shouldn't be an issue in a topspeed run), but also increases drag massively, slowing the car down.

Thanks!

^ that's about it. and whereas it might not improve top speed, it does improve laptimes when you're not grinding against walls etc.

Short version

GT4's physics engine is flawed.
I know. You need to lower the car to the max or something, right?

I did some topspeed tests (stock suspension):

downforce 25 (minimum) = 326 kph (203,8 mph)
downforce 35 = 324 kph (202,5 mph)
downforce 45 = 323 kph (201,9 mph)
downforce 55 (maximum) = 322 kph (201,3 mph)

I've put on racing suspension,weight reduction,limited slip,and a rollcage.

None of those are the ideal tests ;) try adjusting the rear independantly from the front, that's all I'll say now. And no, lowering to the max (or the minimum? :P) isn't the best thing to do. :sly:

In fact, screw with everything. There shouldn't be a single setting unchanged on a perfect (certainly open to debate, you can never be perfect, so maybe we should simply say 'good') setup ;)

DE

Of course, getting the max out of a car usually needs altering all possible settings to perfection. Here, we're talking about a fault in the game obviously. So you have to do something you usually wouldn't do.

Now, will you tell me what it is, or not? I'd like to know, but I've been doing fine without that knowledge until today, and I think I also can in the future if I have to. So don't ask me to beg or guess.

I'm not asking you to beg or guess, nothing quite so rude or unhelpful. I'm asking you to go and test it yourself, and teach yourself how to get the most out of a car as far as top speed is concerned. If you've taught yourself, you know why what works works as it does, and you're never in doubt whether something actually is making a difference or not. It's always much better to learn something yourself, so I'm not about to spoonfeed you. Hope you understand 👍

DE

I sure do. And I've been there already and brought all the cars I wanted to tune to the max, based on real physics that is.

However, it was stated before that putting a wing on a car can actually make you even faster, based on flawed physics in GT4. And it's that very thing I'm trying to find out.

the problem is that with GT4's physics falws such as the how to make a car improve it's top speed with maximum downforce don't require logical thought to figure out, they often require random tinkering. All he's asking for is for someone to tell him what this flaw is that some people have figred out (much like the tranny trick and the wheelie trick in GT3 sending your car upto and over 2000kph.

Hrrmmm, ehm, I´m sorry Dark Elite, but I´m gonna spoil this!
@The Interceptor: Take a good look at the settings in my sig, that says; 300 mph settings here! Look at them, try them out, and think about them.

That's exactly where I'm trying to get at, thank you! 👍

Okay, I'm going to have a look.
