How do I get rid of existing savegame?

I'm sure this is the most stupid question ever but I can't find the answer anywhere. I just got a borrowed PS2 with GT4 and there's a savegame present with a certain amount of progress.

How do I get rid of it so I can start the game from scratch? I can't find any options to erase the existing save...

Take the disk out of the PS2 then turn it on. Then you should get the browser/menus to do things and find the memory card one and delete the specific saved game you want to get rid of.

Surely good enough to thoroughly enjoy even though I've been on GT5 a lot already.

I really do hope that you asked the person you borrowed the PS2 and GT4 from, that you can delete their save game.
Otherwise you may not be able to borrow it again.
