If you want high quality pictures, which have not been compressed, then get a camera, which can well handle huge cards like 2GB and over and that can take them in Raw. But most shots taken with compacts for big car websites are edited in someway, but a good base is just the start, because if you don't learn you're camera well, then you can get some bad photos.

Also when taking photos try and use the lowest ISO, even if it means using slow shutter speeds on a tripod or on the ground.
