usually, if i buy a car, it will be because i can use it in photos, or i beleive it has tuning capabilities

what about you?

Fun is my simple answer.

Unless of course I'm buying it for an ORL competition, or a 300mph test, the cars I buy are the ones I believe will be the most fun to drive, tuned or stock. And if they look good in photos, that's always a plus ;)

Easy. I go into the used car lot, or a manufacturer hall. I go through the cars, picking those that look nice, would be fun to drive, or are required for something. Then I decide on the color by selecting those colors that look good on the car, and pick the most unusual one (ever seen a Purple Charger?).
Or, I just click at random cars in the used lots, and decide by pure impulse. I sometimes miss cars I need because of that.

I buy the ones which I know to have horrible driving capabilities, and then, turn them from understeer horrors to oversteering wonders. or then, if I'm after 200 A-Spec points, I buy a competitive car, such as MX-5 or BMW 120i and go to some difficult race. and for photoshoots.. well, if I can turn a car into a drifter, I usually take photos of it.

I usually pick cars based on my real-world knowledge of them and then test them out. Sometimes I see a nice car and have an idea 💡 for a Photoshoot right away and then I'm off :).

I've gotten past 50% now, so it's mostly just for some fun, you know, throw an MX-5 with 250 hp and N1 tires around the Ring. Good times :)

I buy cars for three reasons:
1. To partake in a race where I need that car
2. Because I think (or thought) it was cool (usually in real life)
3. To complete a "collection" (today I bought an M3 & M5 to complete my M collection. Awhile ago I also bought every German touring car)

Occasionally I buy a car because I need a faster car in a race

I chose cars by one that I see on the road or ones that I have owned in the past or ones that my friends drive. I think it's kinda cool to see what kinda of potential they might have in real life.

I buy a car according to the ones I like, the ones my friends have (I have bought a Blue Ford KA only because my girlfriend have one of 'em :D), the ones I owned, and the ones I see at trackdays.

Fun:

I usally dont buy cars that look like it will have 800hp fully tuned; and I usally dont buy and like ''clichee'' cars like skylines or Nissan xxxSX. (Nothing against skylines and SX's!)

If its odd or unusal I buy it if I can expect good performance from the car! That way I've got the max. tuned +wing Jaguar types S R. I thought that would be a funny car, first time I looked I thought how it would be to race a heavyweight classy limousine and equipping it with a rear wing. 💡
The odd idea brought me a great race car with godlike handling and awesome quick gear shift.👍

Occasionally I buy a car because I need a faster car in a race

Oddly enough, I've been buying cars lately because I need a slower car in a race.

The main reason I buy a new car currently is to investigate its 200 A-spec point potential. That aside though, I've bought cars for any number of reasons; faster, looks like fun, practice car for license tests or driving missions, read a report here praising its virtues, etc, etc.

Since I have the NTSC version and not the PAL I can't buy a 6.2 mile Fiat 500 though :grumpy:.

In all my GT4 playing, I've bought cars simply because I needed them for a race. The only exception to that rule is the Ruf's. I bought those because I wanted to drive them.

This all points back to being disgruntled with GT4, which is another subject.

With the wide variety of choices, mostly "What I need, is what I get."

I think the main factor is I want to see how it handles, I want to explore special cars among the usually boring ones. The biggest question I make before buying one is "Do I have enough money" ;)
Also, I can buy several cars of the same model, I want to see how they become with different takes at the modding (turbo, NA, s/charger, sports package, semi racing package, racing package).

Yeah, I think DA and everyone else expressing similar ideas has it right.
However, that's only to a certain point (but even that could be argued)...
For example, BobK's stated reason is something I agree with as well but if you "need" to get those 200pt races done then buying a slower car is something you need to do (which would mean BobK's reason falls inline with DA's reason for buying cars).

That said, I believe my reason may as well fall under the DA rule... I've got to collect every car in the game. :P
Ok, maybe not every last car, but I do have a ton and at this point, when I buy a car it is for one of a few reasons...

The Color- If I have a Supra in red but want one in white, I've got to buy another.
The Rarity- If the SS Trueno only comes up every so often, I may want to buy a second car so one can be tuned and the other can remain stock (all the while, avoiding the troubles of not being able to find one when I need it).
The Unique Value- This is the most important issue for my car buying since I managed to buy most of what I wanted. Simply picking a car to drive for personal reasons is often the most rewarding reason for buying a car.

Much like DA's RUFs, many of my cars are picked because I wanted to drive them instead of something else. The RUFs are a great example because you don't actually need to buy one yet most of us want to drive the Porsche replacement.
Likewise, my SLR, Amuse R1, TRD Celica, and '92 NSX R are all purchases for pleasure and nothing else. 👍

So, in closing...
I buy what I need but I need what I want.

I go into arcade mode thrash the car and see if i like it. for races that have limitations i repeat the process after making a narrowed list of choices then, i tune the best (or worst) car to the maximum limitations.

I also buy a ton of cars to have fun driving. Most of them I build up then race with them(the races I need them for) for a while and then they go back to being just a fun car to drive. Sometimes I buy them just because they look nice.

Some times I buy them for a "project" car then sell them too.:)

I buy the cars I've enjoyed in the past (some since GT1) to see what the latest version is like. Since I prefer American cars, I'm happy to say the handling & tunability has improved each time. (It can still get better) If I need a car for a "Make" race, I'll invest as little as possible- parts & tuning. Because usually it's a car I wouldn't buy & the races are really easy. Then again, I found cars like the BMW 120(?)d & Audi A3 👍 . That Daewoo (I think) micro-pickup race was NUTS! I had to put alot more money than I planned into that one. I REFUSE to buy a new Skyline. (Let's not get into all that, now.) I won a red 400R that I'll use for that B-spec "Make" race once I get my Ia lisence. 70.1%. And that lil' wheel-spinning Mercedes will be the frikin' DEATH of me! Well, I'm off-topic here. I haven't posted since the GT3 days. Great work, Jordan. I like What you've done with the place.

I'd have to sum it up in jsut a few words:

what's the prettiest looking ride, and power-I love the cars that go so fast, the challenge is keeping them on the track!!

Love to turn a car into a drift car....

Normally so I can complete the game. I enjoy going into the 2nd hand markets every now and then, picked up a Gorgeous TVR Speed Six (97), get's up to 218Mph. Got it for about 45K with 41k on the clock.

I just buy whatever is good, because i can leave the Bspec on over night make a cool 3 million. than what does it matter from there because like pokemon, gotta get them all.

but i had to start over. so im back at squre one with 100,000 :( so i have to get my bmw garage back up and running

I buy because I can, and I want to have every single car.

(This includes the billion talons in my garage.)

Mostly i buy cars i think i'll like, purely subjective. Sometimes though i buy them just to be competitive in a-spec (i'm a terrible driver).
