lol not happening
Do you want it to stay simple, just picking your car colour and ability to change the wheel? Do you want to be able to change the shape of the car any way you want(autosculpt)? Do you want it to even go as far as interior car customzation, like custom leather colours, seats, steering wheel?

Judging from Prologue.. the PD tuned cars show off what Customization will be..
Mufflers, Wheels, Mirrors, Some light interior stuff, as well body kits.. they also promise liveries and other lil things..

So yeah that's all i need.

Body customization wise, I'm with Nox. I'd like a range of bodykits rather like Forza offers, with some parts designed by the Polyphony team, stylish, racy and functional. Something that would make a superb tuner or race car. Along with that, a livery editor. Further though, I'd either like to see Race Modification involve extensive reworking of cars to bring them to the spec required for any racing league to which they could enter, such as BTCC or Super GT. If not, then I'd like to see blank race cars for sale which we can livery up as we please.

Mechanically speaking, I'd enjoy as much depth as real world motorsports. Rebuild engines with sport or racing cams and pistons? Turbo boost controllers? Why not? I'm sure the defaults would be fine, and no doubt, there would be tutorials here to enable anyone to learn as much as they want. Gran Turismo is already quite deep in the tuning and modification department, so why not do as in depth as possible?

I would like it to be fairly deep, for instance say I'm running a league. I would like to have cars with individual sponsors, numbers, paint jobs and possibly window banners with the series name on it. I also think it would be cool if you could put a number in the car name that you see in the garage to match the number on the car.

ex. #31 Dodge Charger '70

Obviously they wouldn't be able to have a sponsor in the name due to license issues.

Yeah I'm with ya too, thats definitely all we need. Maybe a few tuner decals too?

Boost controllers and stuff like that would be cool too, and the cars could lean out etc under too much boost haha. What about engine conversions? RB26 Silvia anyone?? Maybe limited to same manufacturer (i.e. Nissan car, must have nissan engine)

I want proper customisation parts from real manufacturers.
So that means real body kits, spoilers, turbos, wheels, any modifications from the likes of:
Brembo
Nismo
Mugen
Apexi
RalliArt
and similar companies

Perhaps they will bring back the 'Tuning village' from GT4... Except when you go to individual Manufacturers you can choose from some of their parts.

I don't think Polyphony will put in any bodykits that aren't for aerodynamic advantages. (No silly ricer stuff) Probably splitters and front wings, a little like Forza 2 ;)

A custom paint and livery shop would be fantastic too!

Mechanically I would like the customisation to be non-linear. Rather than one sports part, one semi-racing part and one racing part I would like several brands to choose from for each part each one being slightly different to the other. Same goes for tyres, I'de like different brands for each tyre type with different optimum temperatures, grip levels, wear rates and responsiveness charateristics. I want the tuning to be opened up so that it will be hard to find two cars tunesd in the same way short of being planned. I want it to be so that each individual part can be slightly different to another but when you've replaced every part you can you still get a car with different character, different peak power etc to the next guy whos also replaced everything on his car.

Body wise I'd like to be able to choose my own body parts so that I can create a car that not only drives like a race car but looks like on too, and not a generic one click kit like the race mods in GT1 and 2 either, but a proper choose you own parts system.

Front and rear bumpers, front splitters (these should be a seperate purchase to the bmper), winglets and canards, rear winds, spoilers, lip spoilers and rood spoilers etc. We should be able to replace headlights with units that combine air intakes and wing mirrors. Bonnets and side skirts and also we should be able to choose new front and rear wings (quarter panels).

Parts don't have to be vulgar and crude, just funtional.

Finaly a paint shop and livery editor would be the icing on the cake.

Simple for me, choice of colour, rim and aero packages (Not just rear spoiler but full aero packages).

Choose body and mechanical car parts from diferents manufacturers will be great!

You can build a Honda S2000 with:

- Carbon Hood from Mugen
- Carbon Trunk from Spoon Sport
- Body from Amuse Power House
- Rims from Ray
- Exhaust from Spoon Sport
- Turbo from HKS
- Brakes from Brembo
- . . .

But I think the customization system in GT5 will be very similar to GT1 and GT2.

I dont want the cars in GT5 to look like a SILLY RICER car like in NFS or FORZA i want full functioning areo dinamic spoilers, bumpers etc... nothing too extreme the parts should be fitted on the car for performance purposes not because you can buy them and just put them on for no reason.

PD ( KY ) NO RICER PARTS IN GT5 PLEASE.

I would like something on this order in GT5, and have been asking for it all along. Forza 2 offers name brand upgrades, including complete engine swaps, drive trains too. The thing I've come to realize is that the differences are going to probably "feel" indistinguishable, and will just come down to minor differences in lap times, and we have to understand this if PD gives us properly modeled parts. Even in real life, if you tried a range of high performance brakes for instance, their difference in feel might be slight, and that tangible sensation is completely missing in video games. The tyres - for you across the Ponds - do have slightly tangible differences in Forza 2, but I wonder if they're not exaggerated, and I don't want hyped fake performance differences in GT5 just to please the fans. I'd be happy if the average laps would be a bit different if you got a complete HKS tuner kit for a Skyline, or mixed and matched parts.

I want the same thing in bodykits, but it's the same situation. The aerodynamic benefits will be similar, the differences minor, so it's mostly choosing parts that create the most pleasing profile for you. I'll have to add that if a livery editor of some kind isn't included, I'd live, but it would seem like an entire step in tuning and race car creation would be missing, like only getting visual or mechanical damage, but not both.

Oh one more thing.
Make at least 3 body kits for each Mercedes and I will be in heaven! I was dissapointed with Forza 2 that MB lacked body kits.. only had one Forza body kit.

I would like something similar to Forza's livery shop along with body kits (individual mix-n-match, not premade). I don't feel the need to really change the shape of the car besides kits and the interior would be a plus, but it's not necessary for me.

Plain easy. Normal customization, with weight reductions and spoilers. No body kits at all. They just suck, and I doubt they will take the trouble to include body kits that should change with every car, with at least 5 body kits for every car, affecting the car's performance.

Visually, I'd prefer the only exterior modifications to be splitters, wings, diffusers and wheels. I'm not too keen on flashy body kits, I like my cars to look relatively close to how they came out of the dealership. The ability to create your own livery would be fantastic and it could possibly make online races quite an amazing sight. Mechanical customisation in GT4 was just right, for me at least. Also, some difference in performance between the tuner parts would be an interesting element to hot lapping and racing.

I want full control over all customization aspects and don't want some 'expert' telling me what I can and cannot adjust/modify. Showing up to the Online Sunday Cup should be an interesting and unique experience every time and those who feel the same wont really be going for top times for that event.

I'll build what you call a 'ricer' car out of spite for your comment and run 3rd gear in the red for the whole race, soup can and all.

Obviously, cars like I just described wouldn't be very competitive against cars designed to RACE. But, GT is the Real DRIVING Simulator, not the Real RACING simulator. 👍

(Jackington)^I second that. It was pretty boring to buy from different tuners in GT4, when nothing ever changed.

d3br34k5, I really do not want to see any ricer during GT5, it would take away the fun. I would rather play Need for Speed for that. Last thing I want is bodykit customization ruining GT5.

If you want race modification to return, that means body kits. If you don't have bodykits, it's nothing but a tuner. Besides, GT is being swamped by drifters, just like Forza was. I don't like drifting myself, but far be it from me to tell someone how to enjoy a game they paid for, especially if it has drift competitions built in.

One thing I've been forgetting to reiterate is the need for some sort of gear tuning guide to match gear ratios to the power curves of the engine. Several people mentioned it and it really would be one of the most useful additions to GT5.

I want GT5 to just have tasteful exterior modifications (which it's sure to have as it's not Need For Speed) and an extended list of tuning options, things like boost controllers, VTEC controllers, misfire anti turbo lag systems, reprogrammable ECU's (it would be pretty cool to have an ECU that could hold two or three different engine maps that you could change as you drive through the in-race menu) with custom remaps, and also a system where you can choose combinations of turbos and/or superchargers, their arrangement and size, so you could have two huge turbos for maximum power but tonnes of lag, or one small and one large in sequence for a linear torque curve, etc. That sort of thing would give tuners a lot more freedom for creativity, so if PD include an online car market, we won't just get the same stage 4 turbo'd GT-R's and such.

Man, that's probably one of the most well thought posts about car customization in the GT5 boards!!! 👍

With a lot of in-depth tuning options such as neema's, I hope we get more than 3 slots to store tune presets. I bring up Forza periodically, but yet another thing they got right was allowing you to save a range of tunes and naming them. So you could have a car tuned specifically for each track and call it up by name, such as "355ChSebring01."

If there is a vast tuner village, I'd like things to be priced accordingly as well.

Like Mugen stuff isn't exactly cheap, as such, it shouldn't cost the same as other manufactures.

kinda off topic, but If I remember correctly, the parts aspect of 'Motor City Online' was extremely in depth & pretty accurate. A buddy of mine was hot n heavy in that game, though i never really played it.

Anyone have any experience with it?

I agree with this fully, I've always thought it to be odd that GT didn't offer different parts. Even the Tuner Village thing in GT4 was a joke and didn't really offer anything different. Hopefully they will change it up a bit like other games have done. There doesn't need to be a million brands but a couple would be nice.

As for body modifications I would like there to be quite a few, from the simple to the outrageous. You should be able to build your car however you want to. I know Forza had that option for many of the car, you could choose a simple front splitter or a rather odd looking, non functional aero kit.

It's a given that there should be a large choice of rims as well with performance benefits or downfalls for each. I mean if I want big chrome rims then I'll have to deal with extra weight on the car. Also it would be nice to be able to change the sizing and depth on the wheels.

Here`s my take on customisation.

First of all, bodykits: The tuned cars in Prologue are good enough for me although I would like a huge pallette of non-standard colours plus the option of full body carbon fibre (with realistic weight reduction and extra cost, of course) Not too bothered about NFS style decals, but race car style designs would be good.

Exterior mechanical components: Different tyre brands/models that look and perform differently. Different exhaust brands/models that look and perform and SOUND different. And, ofcourse, wheels but GT4 catered for those good enough I suppose. Maybe some new brands/models added.

Now then, chassis mods: I think this is a contentious issue because if you mess around with this too much, you run the risk of irradicating any characteristics of the original car with regards to handling. I think just having the original chassis geometry and leaving it as it is in GT4 and giving us a -+ range to work with will preserve some of the original car's characteristics. Else why have a range of cars to work with when you could conceivably make an Elise handle like a Corvette?

Engine mods: As it is with the addition of a few things. Engine swaps (realistic limitations would obviously apply). Branded modifications with discernable differences. ECU software remapping. Just as long as ALL of the mods make the engine sound different. That is one of my biggest gripes with the series so far. Only exhaust/NA tune/turbine kit make the car sound different when things like port polishing, balancing and cam changes make an often dramatic change to the way an engine sounds.

I know this is mostly pie-in-the-stuff, but I live in hope.

Gary.

quickben just about summed up all i want in the next GT5!!!
Oh, and I know this sounds a little tuner-ish, but i would love to be able to see actual changes to the interior of the car when you buy a weight reduction kit, now that the in-car cam is available....

Not at all. Many of us have asked for this since we do have full interior views, or even have a clear view from outside this time, and a barren interior can't be too hard to add in, compared to the dashboard of a modern car. And all of the interior, since you can look behind you.

You know, i can't believe I forgot brakes and transmission! :ouch:

Here you go then, Brakes: Again, all best/most popular brands, Brembo/APRacing etc with actual visual representation. I want to see my lovely big red Brembo six-pot calipers through my RAYS alloys. They obviously have to have their own set of performance characteristics, braking power, fade/warp resistance, longevity etc.. Oh, and bring the glow back, i liked that in the replays.

Gearbox: Well, I suppose this is pretty well catered for already. Branded clutches and LSD's ? Maybe have a more tactile difference between manual and semi-automatic/DSG type systems. But then you might not be able to tell the difference if you're using the controller as opposed to a G25 or similar so it may be a moot point.

Another thought on bodykits, if we're going to get something like the tuned cars in prologue, how about getting decals from brands that you buy mods from applied to the body work ? That way you don't end up with a plain paint job and the decals actually mean something and apply to your car.

Gary.
