How fast can you type?

I use both hands, my thumbs, my index fingers, my middle fingers and rarely my ring fingers. Only when I hit A I use my left hand's pinkie otherwise that's it. Approx 30WPM on a bad day. Sometimes I can type extremely fast. I need a mechanical keyboard though. Keep in mind, I'm using a laptop keyboard.

I have to admit that laptop keyboards are really bad too. Mechanical keyboards are much more better because you can feel the key press and, depending on what model you have, you can hear it too. But it is very loud.

About 60-70 or so. Sometimes if I'm really typing well I can get around 75-80 but that's about it.

60wpm with 2 mistakes on a laptop keyboard. Is that decent?

People say I type fairly quickly, that's probably because I spend half my day on here

Considering that most laptop keyboards are really flimsy then 60 wpm isn't a bad speed.

I managed to do 71 with 6 mistakes. I know I can do better when my fingers aren't tired like they're now.

 Only God knows how you got 85 wpm using only 2 fingers.

EDIT: If you type that fast using only 2 fingers, then imagine how fast you can type using all 10 fingers.

EDIT 2: I'm currently on my laptop and I did a typing speed test. My typing speed dropped to 80 wpm but I find myself making less mistakes. And I wonder why that is, considering that my laptop keys has no feeling to them at all.

I'm really slow with any more than 2-3 fingers because I've learned using only 4 at the most.

EDIT: Bizarrely, looking at my typing while doing it I've discovered that I use 2 fingers on my left hand but only my index finger on my right. I have no idea why I have learned to type like this!

Your typing must look very ugly 👎 .

Almost the same. I type with 4 fingers - 2 fingers on each hand and in total 5 with my right hand ring finger used to press 'Enter' while chatting. I used to be a very, very slow typer but 3 years ago I started to gather some pace.

42 wpm with 1 mistake. Considering a got a stupid paragraph in shakespearian english I consider that pretty good, and also since I hate copying things, I'm much faster at typing things that I'm thinking up while I write. Also it gave me lots of punctuation that you never normally use such as;:- that I had to look for on my keyboard.

None of you however are as good as my ex computing teacher who could do constant 120wpm on crappy school keyboards.

Considering you got tricky punctuation on your typing speed test, you did well. But for signs like ; and : you just have to press your right pinky down for ; and if you want : then all you have to do is press the left shift key at the same time. But I do understand that typing out words that you are unfamiliar with will slow down your speed compared to typing out something in your own words.

And your ex-computer teacher? Props to him for doing 120 wpm on a keyboard that probably had some keys missing and no tactile feedback what so ever. I guess I could do 120 wpm if I tried hard enough.

Yeah I know it is easy to reach the ; and : keys but it is just that I have to consciously think where they are while typing its not automatic hitting them like the normal letters.

To be fair though my computing teacher spent his life on computers so you would expect awesome typing speed.

If you find that reaching for the colon and semi-colon keys are unnatural then try not to lift your pinky off the key. I see way too many people in typing videos on YouTube lifting their pinky off the key and once you are typing at a really fast speed then it will be very tricky to move your pinky back where it's supposed to be.

I will admit that I am not perfect too. I often find myself resting my pinky on the key for @ and ' and if I could create my own custom keyboard layout, I would switch the two keys around.

At 83wpm with no mistakes I couldn't care less how ugly it looks  It still produces the same words on the screen and that's good enough for me.

You old enough to get a job yet? I bet loads of people in the work office will be staring at you just because of the way you type. And then your boss fires you because you distract everyone from their work :P .

I'm 26 and have just been promoted :P I'm a laser engraver operator but I also do design work at the same time. I work in a separate office so no weird looks ;)

Lucky for you. If people were watching, they would probably think you are a robot being able to type so fast using only two fingers.

Judging by the amount of work they keep giving me they seem to think that anyway!

Never measured how fast I can type, but reasonably quickly. When I'm writing articles I can do around 1,000 words an hour, possibly a little more, which is fairly good going.

If you divide that down by 60 to get wpm it's only 16-17 but in short bursts I'm obviously quicker than that. This post has only taken a minute and a bit or so and it's certainly more than 16 words long...

You should measure how fast you can type in wpm and then share your
result.

I think that it's quite likely that your boss thinks that you're one of these:

Not bad :) .

Yeah, it's okay. Frankly though I find measuring my typing speed a bit useless as it's really the content of writing that matters most! 75% of the time I spend "writing" involves researching and thinking about what I'm writing, and only 25% the writing itself.
