I have never played GT2 before, and have only played the first game a little. If I want to start getting into the GT series, is part 2 the one to go with?

How good are the driving physics? Better than 1?

Are the graphics better than 1?

The jump in graphics from GT1 to GT2, while not mind-blowing, is definitely noticeable, so it scores on that front. But more importantly, it offered a great variety of tracks and cars (some of which had never appeared in a game before, or sadly, since) and provided a rich, engaging, and lengthy career mode. I personally think that GT2 was better than GT1 & GT3, and maybe even 5 depending on what your criteria are.

The bottom line is that it was an amazing game when it appeared in 1999, and quite a few of the racing games that came out between then and now don't hold a candle to it today. I would absolutely recommend getting yourself a copy - you won't regret it! 👍

GT2 is very good, it had a lot more content the game had to offer such more cars from Europe and North America. Cars that other racing games had not touch that much or never before such as the Vector M12, Ford Mondeo*, Venturi 400GT, Vauxhall Vectra* etc.

*Although the car had been in other racing games/sequels

My favorite in the series.

I still hope that they will one day bring back the Mitsubishi Taewon Trampio FTO, which was the car used for EVERYTHING in GT2-days. It was the game I began playing GT with, and it is the only reason I still own my original Playstation and memory card.

Buy it, you won't regret it, especially since it is probably rather cheap.

Best in the series. The car selection, the amount of things it tried to do, the music, the structure. Everything.

I dunno about the music really; to be honest I hate localization where the game have different music in different versions. Good thing they released the soundtrack from Japan to listen to their creative music.

Best game in the series; By a long way too.
GT4s almost as good, but it lacks Grindelwald, Red Rock, Rome Night and a few other tracks, and GT2 has the Race Mod, which just makes the game so much more believable.
GT1 is very hard comparatively, and would be a better game if it weren't for GT2s superior car and track selection.

I like in. In my opinion: better physics than GT4 and Gt1 (Gt3 beat this one by a hair Gt5 wins by far), second best car selection (Gt5 wins a little), Best track selection (Tied with Gt4).

Overall, my second favorite.

I was speaking in terms menu music and the like. As an owner of the NTSC version, I'd also say that applies to the soundtrack; but since I've heard the PAL version of the soundtrack seems to be uniformly terrible I admit that that doesn't apply to everyone.

I rank it 3 of 5 overall (of all GT games). The car and track selection are phenomenal, and the physics are far more realistic than GT1, but I am not a fan of the career mode's system of restriction. It's hard to explain all the flaws with the system GT2 used really...

GT1 is the most important of all because it was first. It has unique features not seen in later games which are pretty cool. If you've never played it and enjoy GT5, you might be too jaded to be able to appreciate GT1, but otherwise any long term fan of the series will acknowledge its greatness, though few still play it.

GT2 was a vast improvement over GT1, though it was rushed into stores and left somewhat unfinished/unpolished. More cars, more tracks, rally mode, better pyhsics.

But I see where C-ZETA is coming from. Too easy to win races with overpowered cars and so beating the career mode is a trivial accomplishment, leaving no great sense of satisfaction after the dozens or hundreds of hours invested in playing.

But as a simulator, ignoring any goals about winning races and just looking at the cars and tracks themselves, GT2 is an endless fountain of amazing gameplay. Hundreds of cars with unique handling and performance and a couple dozen races to test them in against a wide variety of opponents, and then multiply that by tuning options.

Or swap in the Arcade disc and let the playstation pick your opponents for you, though even this you can do in simulation mode with the event synthesizer, another amazing feature of GT2.

If you've never played it before, even if you are spoiled by GT5, GT2 might just be good enough to get you to overlook its outdated graphics and interface and spend time playing it instead of other much more modern games. But don't feel guilty if you try it and just can't find anything to enjoy about it. It may be that nowadays GT2 can only be appreciated by those who played it back in the day.

Hi guys, I gave GT2 quick whirl yesterday. Man oh man oh MAN are the graphics butt ugly! PSX graphics sure haven't aged well. I'm gonna have to get used to the visuals befor I can focus on the gameplay. And this is using epsxe with textures and the res upscaled on the highest settings!

GT2 and GT5 are both my favorites. :) I'm not gonna say any game is "better" than another, but so far as personal favorites go, I had the most enjoyable time with GT2.

Man, it seems so long ago that I was involved with the 1st-gen games!

I might only be 21 but I started playing this game in late 2000 (god I was not even 10) and never got bored of it, even if I switched to GT3 and GT4 with their release. That's the one I keep playing over and over again, I just love it, the best of the series IMHO ;)

Missed As Heaven is Wide, SS11 and wished that it had more championships in it, but they added so much extra that it didn't matter much. In addition to rally, extra cars/tracks it had challenging manufactor races and hill climb on Pikes Peak with the Escudo :)

I'm biased to the even numbered games. 2 was great, but it was my first foray in to GT.
4 was great but was actually too much for the ps2.
Would love it if they re-released ALL the games for PS3.
I thought the physics of 1 were just a little "off" but a great game.
3 while good, very good in fact, seemed "incomplete"
5P, much like 3.
5 has been, everything that 4 was SUPPOSED to be. and more.

I just started playing GT2 again via remote play on my Vita. It is great so far. I owned GT2 back in the day but I was 16, knew nothing about cars, driving lines, technique but still played it non-stop. It's great to come back to it now and see what was really good about it and what things I miss in GT5. Why have I never done remote play before last night?

I quite like the array of European cars in GT2. Seeing as I live in the UK, I see a lot of Saxos, Vectras, Corsas, etc. and it's nice to see them usable in a racing environment. Although there are more cars in later games, I think that the distribution of cars across regions is better in GT2. There's also a number of cars that didn't appear in later games, eg. the Cultus, the Espace F1, the Tommy Kaira m12, etc.
