Not that high. I see him as severely overrated. Plus no one beats 2pac.

Chuck D
KRS-One
Q-Tip
Rakim
Method Man
Thes One
L.L. Cool J
FatLip
Mike D/Ad Rock/MCA
Biz Markie
Simmons/McDaniels
J-Live
Ice Cube

...I could go on.

But yes, 2Pac is better than 50 Cent. Still a ways back, to me.

As someone who's been listening to hip hop and rap since the early '90s, 50 cent rates very low on the scale of skilled lyricists in my view. Back in the day you had groups like Souls of Mischief, Lords of the Underground, Gang Starr, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, DITC, Group Home, Camp Lo or MCs like Mad Skillz, Big L, Lord Finesse, AG, Smoothe de Hustler, Blahzay Blahzay, Sir Menelik aka Scaramanga, God Father Don, Kool Keith and King T. There are so many more as well that just put 50s skills to shame. Also anything from early to mid '90s is of a quality we don't see much nowadays, i.e. (First albums of NAS, Wu-Tang, Biggie, Mobb Deep, Jay-Z, Big L etc.)

When 50 first emerged on the scene, he brought a raw, edgy talent and created a good CD that shook the rap industry up and scared the little jersey wearing, bling blingers we had become used to.

But unfortunately this didn't last long. The fame went to his head quick, and by his next release he had fallen into the "I have more money than you, I do more bitches than you, I have more cars than you" generic rap that every mainstream rapper pukes out (except for a few, Eminem is one example).

He's made attempts to get back to his roots, with songs like "Financial Freedom" where he commented that he thought of "Get rich or die tryin" while writing it.

I don't think he's one of the greats, lyrically he's very simple and sometimes I notice he raps to his own beat in his head or has trouble finding the right rhythm, especially when doing collaborations. But, he did contribute a great album, and really made a mark on the rap game.

Eminem is the best Living rapper, 2Pac is the best ever. When Eminem dies he takes that place.
...haha. suarez got jokes.

Fitty is exactly what he's supposed to be: mainstream, Top 40 "Hip Hop."

If that's your cuppa tea, more power to ya. As it is, I pay little mind to Fitty's music.

I don't really like 50 Cent. You can't buy anything with 50 cents these days. I mean, it used to be possible to get a few lollies or something but now you need at least $2 to get some decent lollies. I guess they are handy when you see something that costs like, $2.50. But yeah.

[reads thread] Oh wait...

Eminem is still the best.

Eminem is still the best.

Of course.

It's not like you ever hear of 50centbeastfan2.

But in all seriousness 50¢ ranks really low on my list. I like people who actually rap about something more meaningful than "Boatz and H:censored:ez!!!" stuff all day.

Hmm, in my humble opinion, none of those guys except Biz Markie (certain tracks), mayyyybe Method Man sometimes, Beastie Boys... yes and no, overall as a complete package (spanning their career) they definitely have an edge, and MMM is one of my favorite producers ever, so yeah I can gel with that and Rakim, to an extent, too. But I'm honestly confused on L.L. Cool J, whaaa?

Opinion and taste of course, but it's just, I'm curious as to why you rate LLCJ so highly amongst your list, sticks out like a sore thumb to me.

Anyway, 50 Cent? I rate him among some of the worst rappers of the entire radio rap empire. Especially dislike his work with G-Unit and bringing up abortions the likes of "Game" and the like. They're better at bragging and swagging than actually making interesting music. I see him more as the Mickey Mouse of the club hip-hop generation. But, on the same token, I actually like Curtis (his real name) as a person, he's actually pretty awesome and is pretty hilarious. He admits that he's in the business of making money and not art though, so I can't respect that side of him.

I suggest you leave suckers like him behind and start to ride the wave of the hip-hop renaissance that's currently going on. Kendrick Lamar, Lupe Fiasco, Mac Miller, Wale, Kid Cudi, Capital STEEZ, Kanye's comeback, J. Cole and there's a damn Wu-tang album coming out soon!! To name just a few. Consider yourself lucky that you're young at such an awesome time. Get out and expand your horizon before you miss the wave.

I put LL on there for personal reasons, obviously...there wasn't much else out there in 1985. His lyrical flow ended around the same time Rakim's did...although I suppose I grew up in a different era.

Anyhow, getting a tad off topic, but my feeling was that 2Pac and 50cent kept going to the same "ghetto well" as a source of inspiration on 90% of their tracks. Snore.

That, and I've kind of stopped caring about the latest thing in Hip-Hop, to be honest...

I don't rate 50 Cent highly at all, and i much prefer the works of Digital Underground, than 2pac's solo stuff.

This also. There's plenty of already established artists still doing their thing, much better than a lot of the new comers/ new wave of artists (imo).

Listen to Australian rap, it is rarley about that kind of stuff.

I'm really looking forward to this. The last album, although good, was really just Ghostface and the friends of Wu-Tang, not really Wu-Tang itself.

But you're right about being in a good time for rap. Its making a comeback after a really dark period IMO.

I bought Get Rich Or Die Tryin' when it came out. I think that was 2001. I only got it because the other kids at my high school were listening to it, and I had never heard it. I didn't know what iTunes was at the time, so there really wasn't a way I could sample it before buying. Still have the CD.

How do I rate 50 Cent? Ehh not a big fan of his music.
