A little observation: I know that people are more likely to stay closeish than go on a big trip, but it seems that people from the Midwest and East generally keep between those places. They don't seem to go out west a lot, except California. Yet the West Coast guys go to all parts of the country.

The people from the Midwest don't really go anywhere, because the states next to them are just more corn fields. :dopey:

I need to go visit Europe more... only been to 4 countries over there :grumpy:

Same. Flying through excluded, I have been to 3 and a half(Scotland). Of those, I only spent more than 24 hours in France and Scotland. I think I spent more time in the Frankfurt airport than I did in Spain. Including airports, that makes 5

I spent about 3 weeks between Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and 3 weeks in France. I plan to backpack there for a summer around 2010 when I am 25 and likely, finally, done with college.

Apparently "I'm a hobo!" (A travelling person, not a gay with a cold!!!!)

OH : My first visit to US, did a year at Kent State University on an exchange programme. (Been back on business a few times since then, worked at Batelle Labs, drove down from Ann Arbor, MI to visit my brother who was also doing a year at University of Toledo on an exchange programme some years later!)
IN : Drove through on a Spring Break roadtrip to Colorado.
IL : Drove through on a Spring Break roadtrip to Colorado. (Been back on business since then, working at Abbott Labs)
MO : Drove through on a Spring Break roadtrip to Colorado. (Been back on business since then, working at ABC Labs & Aventis)
KA : Drove through on a Spring Break roadtrip to Colorado. (Been back on business since then, working at KSU & Aventis)
CO : Sprink Break trip ended here. (Been back on business since then, working at places around Denver)
WV : Passed through on the way into PA, went to Greyhound races in Wheeling with friend's Uncle!
PA : Stayed with a friend in Pittsburgh here after Uni year finished before going back to UK. (Been back on business since then to numerous places)
VA : My first business visit to US 5 years later, worked in Richmond, went back a couple of times too.
NJ : Numerous business visits to various Pharmaceutical companies there.
NY : Ditto Visited NYC one night while staying in NJ, went to 107th floor observation deck of WTC in 1999. :(
DE : Business visit to Quest labs in Newark. (Went back a few times over 3 year period)
CT : Drove through to get to Groton to stay with a friend after finishing job in DE, was supposed to work at Pfizer there for a week, but found out on my arrival that I had to go to Baltimore instead, and drove all the way back again!
MD : Worked at Johns-Hopkins in Baltimore, customer took me out for seasoned crabs. No cutlery, just a paper tablecloth, napkins & a wooden mallet! Mmmmm.
RI : Drove through on my way from NJ to MA a few times.
MA : Visited many times, company I work for is HQ'd there, so I go over for training periodically.
NC : Worked in Greensboro for Syngenta, went out with colleague in Durham.
GA : Installed a machine for Coca Cola Company in Atlanta.
MI : Many visits on business to Ann Arbor, & Kalamazoo (where I got "trapped" in the hotel bar with the multinational female cast of Riverdance! 👍)
MN : Spent a chilly few weeks on business in the twin cities.
ND : Spent an even chillier 2 weeks on business in Fargo one November! Saw the world's largest plane at the airport there! Was given free ticket to see Aerosmith (who I'm not keen on) just for something to do!
TX : Spent over a month in 2 separate visits working for CEDRA corp in Austin, customer picked me up for dinner in 1939 Rolls Royce one night! 👍
CA : Been a resident here for 7 years now, came a few times before that on business, and once on vacation. Love it! 👍
WA : Go up to work in Seattle periodically. Great city!
OR : Go up to work in Portland or OSU in Corvallis ocassionally.
ID : Put some equipment in the University in Moscow. Not much going on!
MT : Been to Bozeman & Missoula. Pretty country, very sparse. Missoula was very smoky due to forest fires in the surrounding valleys!
FL : Went to San Destin resort for meeting & golf. Hurricane damage still visible in places, forget which one it was after though.
UT : Worked in Logan & SLC on occasion. Also went boarding at Snowbird & visited lots of the national parks in the southern part of the state on our roadtrip last year.
AZ : Worked at U of A in Tucson, also drove parts of Route 66, and did Grand Canyon & Monument Valley during last year's roadtrip.
NV : Spent a couple of nights in Vegas on our roadtrip, not really my scene, but refreshing after Death Valley! Also spent a night in Reno when I went up there to collect my Porsche. Casinos suck. 👎 Porsche rules. 👍

There you have it. 31 states. Mostly missed out on the midwest WY, OK & the like, extreme North East, NH, VT etc. and the deep south, LA, MS etc. Must go on down there sometime. ;) Oh and of course HI and AK!

I spent about 3 weeks between Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and 3 weeks in France. I plan to backpack there for a summer around 2010 when I am 25 and likely, finally, done with college.

I have 3 weeks in France and Scotland, 24 hours in London and like 5 hours in Spain. I want to just head out there and rent a car and drive around all summer. That would be an awesome summer, especially with some friends.

15, and I'm not American and don't live there.

Arizona -Family trip in a Westfalia for a month.
Wyoming - "
Montana - "
Utah - "

Alaska - stopped over in a flight to Vietnam

Most of my friends live in these states, so I've been to:

Michigan - Spend my summers there
Indiana - RT (roadtrip)
Ohio - RT
Pennsylvania - RT
New York - many reasons, I love Soho
Dirty Jersey - many RT
Vermont - I love that state, I'm going down tomorrow for the day
New Hampshire - Famdamily vacation

Maine - I've gone 17 years in a row, I absolutely love it. Maine has a little place in my heart. If I win the lotto, I'm settling down there for sure. Absolutely my favorite state, no quesiton. I mean, eating dinner to this view every night? I'd take it!

Six!: Oregon, Washington, California, Idaho, Nevada, Canad... I meant Five!

Quite a few, pretty much everything east of the Mississippi River and a few western states. When I say I drove through the state I did stop and take a look at the sites while doing so, I just didn't have a specific reason for going there.

Michigan - live here
Ohio - pretty much every Michigander from the east side of the state has been here
Indiana - golfing
Illinois - Chicago trip
Missouri - St. Louis trip
Kentucky - drove through
Tennessee - drove through

So that's 34 states so I guess I'm a hobo.

North Carolina: visited family and the RCR museum
South Carolina: started visiting in 2002, now I live here :)
Georgia: helped a family member move
Florida: went for the 2002 Daytona 500

That's only 6 states, I'm not a very interesting person. :indiff:

I've only been briefly to a few, so's I'll just list 'em:

Washington state, lived here since 1990
Oregon, just visited & drove thru a few dozen times
California, lived there briefly in 1995-96 before my father passed
Idaho, I live in Spokane, Wa...about 2 nanoseconds from stateline ID
Nevada, gambling in reno
Utah, lived there briefly as a little kid
Montana, passed thru during my last tour in Drumcorps
North Dakota, same as above
Minnesota, same as above
Iowa, visited family back in 2001
Wisconsin, Drumcorps finals in Madison '06
Indiana, more Drumcorps tour stuff
Kentucky, lived there briefly, as well as in Indiana, circa 1987
Florida, before Kentucky, circa 1986

I count 38 for sure. A few more that I might have passed through but can't remember.

I think this ties with me for first place so far. So far I haven't seen a >38 response. If you can remember one more you'll be the biggest hobo of us all.

Wisconsin and Arkansas seems like I should have at least driven through at some point in my life but can’t actually remember anything about those two states. North Dakota is another that I just can’t picture a time that I have been there. The rest is the whole New England area that I haven't even come close to.

It was easy for me to see lots of states as a young boy because my father is a truck driver. During the summers I would spend a month or so just traveling from one side of our country to the other with him.

Maybe later this week I could do one of those lists of memorable things from each state I've traveled.

Florida and Montana for me. briefly crossed the border from canada at waterton lakes national park :]

25?

I took many road trips while I was in college :D

My step dad was a truck driver and he drove all over the united states. When I was younger I rode with him for a few spring breaks and sometimes a couple weeks during the summer. Sure did suck riding in that truck for a week or two with him. I usually just played my gameboy.
We were also very poor and moved a LOT in my lifetime. I went to well over 30 schools my entire life. Sometimes 3 schools in 1 year. That also sucked really bad. Being the new kid in school almost every year is not a fun experience. I eventually got to the point where I knew I would never see my friends the next year.
I did get to see between 30-40 states all ranging from 110 degree deserts to -20degree mountains. The nicest place I have ever seen was Sedona Arizona. Beautiful scenery with lots of red and purple rocks everywhere.
I have always wanted to go to California. I guess I was there when I was a baby but obviously dont remember what it looked like. I would also like to go to Florida.

AZ- Just drove through when I was younger
CA- GoKarting at Infineon Raceway
ID- Just passed through
NV- Went to SEMA with the family but I was to young to go out on the floor =(
OR- Lived there for 6 years (and happy I got the hell out)
UT- Grandparents live there
WY- My mom was pregnant with me for 3 months there (does that count?)
WA- Where I live now

For me, 3

Anaheim, CA - Born and raised there until 1996, then moved to:

Seattle, WA - I currently live in South Seattle, in the Beacon Hill neighborhood

Las Vegas, NV - went there in 2002 for two days, while visiting family members in Southern CA.

March of 2010 I got a chance to go to Oregon
I have driven in California, Oregon, and of course where I live, Washington

California (where I live, duh :P)

Texas

Tennessee
Louisiana

Nowhere too exciting for me, pretty much just the entire East Coast with a few oddballs thrown in

Pennsylvania - Born here and have lived 20 of my 21 years here in Pittsburgh.

Ohio - Went to school here for a year in 2004, haven't gone back since (to Ohio that is, I transferred schools)

New York - My dad's family is from Syracuse, so I've been there a lot. I've also been to New York City several times for travel.

Vermont - My uncle lives in Burlington, I go there to ski fairly often.

Connecticut - I have family there

Rhode Island - Took a day trip there once.

Delaware - I have gone to the beach there several times

New Jersey - Passed through.

Maryland - Passed through on the way to North Carolina.

West Virginia - Passed through for several trips.

DC - Been there for travel.

Virginia - Stayed in Virginia Beach, also stayed near DC.

North Carolina - Several trips to the outer banks, my grandfather also used to live in Asheville.

South Carolina - A few day trips while I've been in the outer banks.

Georgia - Trip to Atlanta a few years back.

Florida - I've gone to Orlando once and Jacksonville once, also been in the Miami Airport several times.

Texas - Airport layovers in Dallas.

Hawaii - Spent two weeks there a few years ago.

I have been in
New York
New Jersey (My home)
Delaware
Maryland
Washington D.C.
Virgina
Pennsylvania
West Virgina
North Carolina
South Carolina
Georgia
Flordia
Vermont

So thats 13.... DAMN! I checked the wrong answer!:dunce::ouch:

EDIT
Why is every one cracking on New Jersey. Only like 10 percent is really bad (probably where most of you only was) . The rest is really nice and up north it is all farms and forest (high point area) and is very pretty.

Two.

California - Went to watch some drag races and visit a relative. Los Angeles area.

Washington - Just passing through, did Highway 20 through the Cascades and took the ferry from Anacortes home.

I've invaded the east coast for the second time. My company has sent me to Philadelphia for a two-day class. Located tantilizingly close to several state lines, I was able to drive through Delaware and Maryland before driving back up through New Jersey to my hotel, north of Philly. Considering that took all of 90 minutes (plus a stop for food), I think the east-coast dwellers have an advantage in this game... ;). Anyway, with the addition of PA, DE, MD, and NJ, my total has ballooned to 17. I'm close to being in the 50% American category! Texas and Hawaii are on the schedule for early 2008, which will help with the seasonal depression associated with a Western Washington winter :D.

On a side note, making an eastbound, cross-country flight in mid-December certainly plays with your head. The sun is rising when you leave, and setting when you land 4 1/2 hours later. It's a short day and a long day all at once!

Only a few (5):

Texas: Obviously, I currently live there
Louisiana: One of my closest friends has family out there
New Mexico: Visited a short while ago
New York: Went up for a Karate tournament, and for super summers every year
Hawaii: Best vacation EVER

Lived 97% of my life outside of the states.
