well, since the low attendence talks are taking place in the last two weeks, i decided to start a thread to see how much dedication people put into WRS.

i´m always hearing the subject of "not having time to play" and its something that bothers me too... sometimes i think i spent more time in this forum (when i have nothing to do at work) then actually racing...

since i´ve joined WRS, i completely stop playing "normal" GT4, which means that WRS and the JGTC series are the only action i get in the game, just can´t seem to find time...

to me, it looks that each and every one of the 302 registrated drivers would like to participate in the WRS, but many, just don´t have time to do it...

so, what do you guys think about this?
is just the lack of time that is making so few people race?
lets talk about this to see what everybody thinks...

also, vote in the poll, that should tell us something interesting...

good laps to you all :)

I usually drive a little during the week, like 1 1/2 hours at night... but winter break is over this week, so I will be back to college... but in the weekend I usually spend 3-4 hours a day... or at least I intend to! :D

I might get lucky and get up to 5 hours per week. It all depends on my work schedule. Most of my time is on sunday (if I don't have anything planned).

Well, I qualified for the WRS a long long time ago and I don't think I ever participated. I get maybe 2 to 3 hours a week to play, tops, and usually broken up into 2 or 3 sessions. Some weeks I don't get to play at all. Until I started the SWCTC series this summer I didn't get to play very regularly - I didn't play once in the month of May, for instance. I've had the game since North American opening day and I've just last night gone over 10% completion.

So with that kind of schedule, committing to a regular weekly series is just impossible. Even on weeks I did get to run, I'd never be competitive, and that's all I'd get to do.

Usually only 1-4 hours but when it has been a combo that I really like I have spent up to 10 hours during the week on it.

Lately I have been short of time because I have been laying plans for my next series of road tests and cleaning up my previous efforts.

I usually play 20 - 30 hours a week. Sometimes less, sometimes much more (!)
However, I'm not playing at GT4 only, and I haven't been racing in OLR for a few weeks. I used to practice for the WRS 20 to 50 laps per week ; but right now it's exactly zero.
That is until I find a way to format my memcard to delete my corrupted save, re-install a GT4 gamesave ; I'd like to race week 17.

GT4 is the only reason I have a PS2...I finished a long time ago and when I found this online racing forum it gave me a fresh approach to the game. I attempt the combo set out each week well over 10 hours a week, I don't think I'm naturally a fast driver but I keep trying until I set a competitive lap. I just love the challenge so I spend a good deal of time on it.

I usually spend 4-6 hrs./wk. racing. Probably 2/3 of that is WRS, and the rest goes to a different weekly series that I race in. The most time that I've spent on the WRS was probably 8 hrs.

If I can keep myself from drinking too much, it takes less time to get a lap I'm happy with :dopey:

probably 8 - 10, i measure my race in KM not hours, i try to get about 700 - 1000 km per week.

Similar to many others, my playing time depends alot on my work schedule. Before i started working this summer and when i had just purchased GT4, i was playing 2-3 hours a day everyday :) . I remember doing the same thing with GT3 when it was first released. Like MisterWeary, the Gran Turismo series is the only reason why i have a ps2, and why I will have a ps3.
But with the start of work (I think around the same time GT4 WRS started) i have maybe been able to play 1-3 hours during the weekdays, and then maybe a couple more hours on the weekend if i'm doing nothing but bumming at home. Of course for weeks that i like i try my best to play more often then usual... like week 17! And the same goes for combos that i dont like.. such as the rally, new york, and motegi weeks... i maybe played 1-2 hours each for those.

Definitely though, the more time you are able to put into gran turismo the better you will get! I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that absolutely NOONE (not even our team H) pulls off quick laps without lots of repeated effort, practice and experience.

I only get time to run after work and before the kids get home. Luckily this equates to about 5 hours a week. Sundays are normally out as I am usually mountain biking or playing golf. 👍

There should be an addendum to this question: "How much time do you spend on GTPlanet checking what other people have done?" :)

I can tell you that, in my case, that would be a lot more time than I spend actually racing the WRS.

yes, that also applies for me... everytime i have nothing to do at work, i´m here posting... the time i spent here should double the amount of time i race... 👎

Well I do work a full 40 hours a week and that cuts into my time with GT4 👎 . But I try to spend atleast 2 hours atleast three days a week, then over the weekend when I don't work if I don't have anything else to do I'll spend another 4+ hours there. I'd say usually I try to get in about 10 hours a week give or take. I would also agree with Weary, I'm not the best of drivers I just try to get a competitive lap in so I can climb the D2 ladder.

it varies from week 2 week, some weeks i find myself playing 10-15 hours, maybe more, and some weeks only 5-10 hours, but i try and put in a decent amount of time to be competitive each week in the WRS. since i bought gt4, i havent even looked at another game since, cya later

I miss the great battles we used to have in d2 Kenny. Hope ya come back every once in a while and give me what you really got! 👍

My time doing WRS varies from 0 if I'm traveling a lot (work) up to about 8-10 hours a week. This is the first summer I ever played GT. Otherwise there's too much golf, fishing, softball, etc. to take up my spare time. Winter is another story. GT saves my sanity in the winter. The older I get, the more I HATE winter! :grumpy:

So if I'm home, I'll play every night in the winter.

And I also think that Alpine is right. My results in WRS are a direct correlation to the amount of time I spend on an event. Although there seems to be 2 stages.....

stage 1 is learning the combo and getting semi fast. 2-4 hours
stage 2 is the eureka moment where all of a sudden it all falls in place. 10-25 hours

Stage 2 only happens, at least in my case, after many mind numbing hours of screwed up lap after lap.

I think that there is also a stage 3 which is the "perfect lap". I hope to see one some day. 👍

I suppose the point of the thread is interesting...

However, the under-lying points are sorta sad to me.

How many hours do you spend on racing each week determines your dedication?

Funny, I would thik how many weeks you hang around for is the measure of that.

Hell, in the past I found out that there are people who aren't even registered yet keep up with the racing, do they count?
Or what about the racers who barely ever get to race yet come in and check every combo each week?
What about the old-school'ers who just dropped out with the initial GT4 hype, yet still come around to see how things are going?

Measure your hours of racing to get an idea of how many hours of racing you do each week, not to get an idea of how "dedicated" you are to the racing.

Kent, what's up with you man? I seem to be soooo down lately... :D I think that everybody here, that are present or not, those who race every week and those who come once in a while, all of them together are pieces that make what WRS has become today.

Everybody have their everyday not-GT lifes and sometimes they must stay away for a while. It is not lack of dedication, but sometimes priorities need to be changed. As I said in Week 17 thread, winter break is over for me, my week time will now drop to 1 to 3 hours a week. And maybe I may drop some weeks and things at school and at work get a little heavy. This should not count as "non dedication"...

I guess what you pointed would be two different thing to measure, what's your dedication to each WRS race and what's your loyalty to WRS.

Either way, just relax, things come and go, and that's why the world is round, so they can come back :)

And man, try to make some room in your agenda so you can race with us! This week is going to be a helluva fun! :D

"Time" is not my reason for not participating.
This and this

Those are the reasons why I don't compete...
I also had tons of reasons I left out of that post due to respect for flat-out as well as all of you.

However, that doesn't mean I'm can't be a man dedicated to what he believes in. :P

Now regarding the "what's up with you" and "just relax"...

Please explain yourself. :D

The "I'm so down" could also use some explaining as well. :P

Probably between 4-7 hours a week. And on some weeks where I do really well, probably 8-10 hours. I think I might've actually spent even more than that on the 'Ring week's race... And didn't manage to put more than three laps together total anyway so my time was still dismal. Oh well, those were the early days of WRS for me, so I might be better this time around.

Hi there! What I meant was that it may be just an impression but you seem to be taking everything on a negative prism lately... the "just relax" was trying to cheer you up  We don't want to see our moderators in a bad mood! :yuck:

Anyway, too bad you are not competing, altough I saw you just tried the W17 combo... You know, the more people involve, more fun it will be!

And, if it does not make any sense to you, just let it go :D 👍

I didnt spend as much time on week 17 as usual, But i do try to at least hit 500km or so.

It really depends on real life stuff
