How To Do It...

Yeah, I am at a minimum wage job right now and I only work 3 hours a night, but I want to get myself a car and become a Pizza Delivery Boy or whatever because I just LOOOVE driving. What would be a good way to start? What kind of car to buy, how much to spend on a car (USED) and stuff like that.

Thanks for ANYTHING in suggestions, ideas, etc.

BTW, I'm 16, not rich, not poor, just not well payed :banghead:

Get a small car that gets good gas milage. Trust me. Some places pay $1 for every delivery (dont forget, you get tips, always be sure to remember to be there when an order comes from a Rich part of the delivering area). Get one of those old ford hatchbacks or something. You'll be doing alot of driving if there arent too many delivery people...

Personally I wouldn't do it, but then I've managed to get full time jobs during the summer. At first I thought I might like doing it, because it's all driving, but I wouldn't want to put a bunch of mileage on my car. I suppose that wouldn't be too bad if you got something cheap that you don't care about driving a whole bunch.

Well down here, I checked my JobBank site thing and there's like 4 places wanting Pizza Delivery Boys. All I need is a car because my parents won't let my take any of theirs for it. And to get there it's like a 45 minute drive, so if I leave right after school I should be there 4:15 PM. And I can be occupied with music so as long as I have songs to listen to I'm happy!

Well, sign up for a technical drawing class at your school (if they have it). You'll be working with CADD, a drawing program on the computer. If you get certified, and find a job, it can pay from anywhere around $11.50 - $18.00 an hour (and imaging, at 16!). That's what Im doing at the moment...

FOR SALE- Motorcycle 1982 Kawasaki-GPZ 750 cc. Classic red bike in excellent condition. New tires. MVI valid ‘til July 04. $1,800 or OBO. Call ***-****. (Ad#**-***)

I could start with that... We might not get snow until November or later because it hardly rains here, but we're surrounded with water so it's kind of odd. I'm gonna call the dude tomorrow and see about it and I'm looking at how to get a moto-licence right now. I think it's a good idea. Tell me what you think.

Well if you want to go through all the trouble of gettin a bike-class licence and the insurance on a sport bike, and the crampt riding position and having to it in that position for a while, go right ahead. (Ive been through all of this, as I own a yamaha R1) Another thing is no matter what you do, no matter how good u think u are, you will take a fall sooner or l8er (usually sooner) but hey, if u can handle all that, more power to ya. ;)

Id reccomend you getting a RSX like mine. You can usually find one for around 14-15G's and the Type-S for around 15-20. They are great cars, and a joy to drive in the city. Out of your price range? Look for a 90's 240SX (I suggest a 93'), those are great and you can usually find one for around 9-13G's. And if you are really short on cash, go to the local car junk yard and find a working AE86 (Toyota Carolla Tureno) for around 3-5G's. Great reliable cars, just hard to find parts for.....

Yeah, they're nice cars, but they're not work-horses. You need something that's cheap to buy, and has cheap parts in plentiful supply, because when it goes wrong (and it will, because it's a working car), if you can't get it repaired quickly and cheaply, you have no source of income, which you suddenly require to pay for the car repairs!

Steer away from quick cars (which also drink fuel)!

Behold the power of Honda. I recommend it because it's really cheap, still very reliable, and handled very nicely for a family sedan. Think $2k.

I also recommend:

- 1990-1993 Acura Integra sedan
- 1994-2001 Acura Integra sedan
- 1988-1992 Eagle Premier
- 1990-1994 Eagle Talon TSi AWD
- 1995-2000 Ford Contour V6
- 1990-1991 Lexus ES250
- 1995-2000 Mercury Mystique V6
- 1992-1996 Mitsubishi Diamante sedan
- 1996-1999 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT
- 1995-1999 Toyota Avalon XLS
- 1995-1997 Volkswagen Passat VR6
- 1994-1997 Volvo 850 Turbo/T5 sedan

None of those are any more than $10k, and they're all very reliable, fairly quick, and good handlers. The pick of that list, though, is the '95-'98 Avalon - leather seats and antilock brakes were standard, and heated power mirrors became standard in 1997; side airbags became standard in 1998. Also in 1997, the 3.0L V-6 got a bump to 200bhp from 192. A good used example will cost just $6-$9k.

Get a ford fiesta or some other K car. over 30mpg (the last time I checked), small, and agile, and usually only $500 (instead of a couple thousand for other cars). You do NOT want a sports car to deliver pizza's. You want something that will take a few dents and keep going. You will be rushing to get a pizza to a house quickly so it doesnt come out of your paycheck.

The K car idea is good but I haven't seen any around here for sale (and there are cars for sale all over the place here)

Maybe if I put up a WTB ad in the paper.

Be like every other delivery boy around here and buy an old ass lincoln town car.

Get a ford fiesta

The Mercedes in that picture has a German license plate, and the suffix of the Website is ".de", which is Germany - and there's a reason: the Ford Fiesta was never imported to the United States or Canada. He might have trouble finding one, then.

Ford Festiva?
Those sucked - they were built by Kia in Korea as the Pride then imported to the United States - same deal with the equally bad Ford Aspire. If you're going for the lowest you can spend on a car coupled with the best fuel economy, the Suzuki Swift, Subaru Justy, and Geo Metro is a safe bet - decent reliability, great fuel economy, and decent interior room for pizzas. Not bad :D 👍

There you have it Andre, straight from the source.

Or this: "- 1990-1991 Lexus ES250." That is if you can find one that has any paint left on it.

And M5Power, answer my PM you *****. :D

 You've gotta be joking.
You would have to be insane to do pizza runs in most of them. The whole idea is good fuel economy.
Just get a real pos under a grand. Something like a 10yr old 1.3 Corolla that can take a thrashing

ITs nothign special, but look into a Ford ZX2. Cheap as hell (you can find a used one in the paper for around 500$ usually) has an OK amout of power (enough to beat old ladies off the line atleast) And they are pretty damn reliable. Its just got some design flaws to cope with, such as rear drum brakes, enough room for 1/2 people ( ) and some other stuff, just minor creature comforts, etc.

I have the wrong name. There is a small ford that was imported to the US that looks somewhat lie the Fiesta. I cant put my name on it though.

But wait...wtf? My neighboor just bought a used Ford Fiesta for his son, and it says FIESTA on the back of it.... and I remember seeign a couple of Fiestas at a Spanish guys house when I used to live in AR......

Anyway...those things are still ugly as sin...:yuck:

They all get over 20mpg, which is better than many cars of similar age can say.

Ford Festiva. And as I've said: Those sucked - they were built by Kia in Korea as the Pride then imported to the United States - same deal with the equally bad Ford Aspire.

Aspires looked similar, so you could be confusing the Fiesta with either vehicle. They were both awful.

 You said:

...so I helped you out with "Festiva." You're either looking for that or Aspire, the only vehicles Ford ever sold in the US similar to the Fiesta (excepting the Focus and Escort, whose names are unforgettable).

Help me out with some pictures, Im all confused and turned around here. I think the name was Fiesta, I forgot. Geez. This is like having Amnesia and De-Ja-Vu at the same time......I think I have forgotten this before ...

Its the top one. Yes, they did import them. I have only seen them in Arkansas though (which is where my brother used to do his pizza rounds for a while when we where visiting my uncle for the summer a few years ago). i can tell you alot about them. The seat fold forward when you push a small black lever on the side which also extends into the back where you can use your foot to fold it forward. The shoulder belt automatically slides but you have to manually do the lap belt. The seats are big enough to fit a small box under (for extra cheese and peppers for the pizza's).
