Yep - they imported them right over from Korea badged as the Festiva. I've been saying that all along! :)

They were also sold as the Kia Pride in Asia and Europe and fared just as badly over there.

The top one is the Ford Festiva, aka the Mazda 121, aka the Kia Pride...

This is a 1993.5 Ford Fiesta 1.3i - a car very, very similar to the one I used to do pizza rounds in. And at 50mpg with peerless handling in-class (it's what the Ka and Puma were based on), you can't argue much.

Yours for £1250... :D

What?! But you said that they didnt. Or did you? Your the one that said that they didnt, did you? Err, nevermind. Im too confused now :grumpy: ...

Ford Festiva = Mazda 121 = Kia Pride. Car sold as Kia Pride in Asia/Europe and Mazda 121/Ford Festiva in USA.

The Ford Fiesta is a completely different car (and the one you posted is a 1993.5 like mine - with clear front indicator glass - but has had an accident and replaced his right wing-mirror with the old 2-piece one).

The generation of the Ford Fiesta AFTER mine (1996-1999) was also the basis of an EU Mazda 121

The Fiesta and Festiva are not the same car. Look at the names closely, they arent the same.

Yep thas it, it was a Festiva, lol got them mixed up, thought it was the same car.... But serious, look into a Ford Escort ZX2

I'd like to point out that he really means look into it, if you just look at the exterior you will probably be disgusted.

You might be at the interior too, I can claim to have ever been in an Escort.

Get a small car that gets good gas milage. Trust me. Some places pay $1 for every delivery (dont forget, you get tips, always be sure to remember to be there when an order comes from a Rich part of the delivering area). Get one of those old ford hatchbacks or something. You'll be doing alot of driving if there arent too many delivery people...

Been a pizza delivery driver. Get a heap (a car that isn't too pretty nor does it "owe" anybody anything) that runs good and doesn't use much gas. In fact, if you can afford it get a car that you can use exclusiviely as the "pizza wagon". Because, after a week of delivering your car will smell like pizza forevermore. Also, after a year of driving delivery, it will likely be ready to be a large rusty planter, or to be parted out. Also be prepared to increas the liability, and collision coverage on your car, most places require it. And set aside money from your tips for extra vehicle maintanence. The stop and go will be murder on your car.
You'll also want a working radio. Trust me. It'll be a life-saver.
Oh yeah, The rich side of town is not where you'll get the best tips. Those people didn't get rich by giving all their money away.

What you will discover is that a lot of people that order, order often. Get a notebook. Write down each delivery, with each address, any discounts you had to give, and what you were tipped.
Trust me, at the end of the night when you cash out, with your log in hand, you can't be cheated out of a delivery fee, or lose any tip money if you had to give a discount. You will also have a good idea of who is a good tipper and who is not. We had a guy who would order infrequently, but he was likely to pay with a 20 for a $6 dollar order and tell you to keep the change. (Needless to say, every driver in the place knew that address.)
I've had nights where I made less at the end of the night than the number of deliveries I made. That stopped happening when I started keeping track with my log.
Also, unless you live in a town with no "bad sections" you might want to reconsider delivery driving. Don't even ask!
If you live in a town where the local pizza place has a "guaranteed" delivery time, be prepared for all sorts of foolishness on the street. I have been followed, cut off, had people slow down to a crawl in front of me so I would be late and have to give the pizza away, or give a discount. I've found my self face to face with large ominous looking dogs, little snarling dogs, naked and near naked people (few of them pretty), driven in snow with no heat, been pranked, delivered a pizza to McDonalds, etc. The stories I could tell you are the makings of a great comedy routine.
I used to love to drive. After driving delivery for 2 or 3 years, I still prefer to ride if given the option. (and it's been nearly ten years since I made a delivery). My wife asks me to drive at night, as my wife's night vision isn't as good as mine. And I drive on trips. I have become that guy that doesn't find or make up extra errands that require me to be in the car. If I have several things to do, I will choose a course that provide the least amount of time in the car. Amazingly, I love to play GT3.

Agreed - one of the most depressing cars Ford has ever produced, including anything Korean-sourced. It's astonishing to me that Ford wonders why they're losing market share for cars when they're trying to have the Ford Taurus compete against the Volkswagen Passat, and the Ford ZX2 against the Toyota Celica.

The problem is Ford feels immune - their SUVs and trucks are leagues better and even cheaper than the import competition. As it stands now, the Explorer is one of the best SUVs for sale, as is the Expedition (after all, the style for the Toyota Sequoia SUV was based on the outgoing Expedition; the Sequoia came out new in '01 whereas the outgoing Expedition died the year after - brilliant espionage job, Toyota).

I really wish Ford would get their act together and start making cars that mean something again (barring the Focus, they presently don't). I remember the huge effect the 1986 Ford Taurus had on the market when it came out - at the time, it was better than the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. So, brilliantly, Ford decides to let the design go for another nine years when the import competition redesigned twice within that time! Mad.

What does that have to do with delivering Pizza?

I agree that Ford has been stagnant on many fronts for a long time. It has ever been thus.
They only re-design or re-engineer when they get scared of losing too much of the market.

Oh - it was just something of an elongated agreement to retsmah's ZX2 post, as I could see where he was taking that.

👍

Since 1986, Honda has come out with five new Accords - one in 1986, 1990, 1994, 1998, and 2002. Since 1986, Toyota has also rolled out five new Camrys - one in 1985/1986, 1987, 1992, 1997, and 2002.

Over the same time period, Ford has produced exactly two new Tauruses - one in 1986, and one for 1996, with a minor but obvious redesign in 2000.

That's just poor competition.
