Thanks for the very detailed heartfelt right up Kent!

Well thanks again everybody.

That essay was meant for the gtp (although I may have it sent to some other places).

That said, all the support and concern for my family and I that is mention based on what a great group of people I have here at my one and only online home.

Thanks again,
I can't say enough about what a great group you have all turned out to be.

PS... I forgot to write about my trips to the FEMA center for food, water, and ice.
You would be amazed how good an MRE and cold water can be in a situation like what we are talking about.
(you would also be amazed at how emotional things like this can be when you're waiting in line with hundreds of other people just to get things like food and water)

The best thing is, you didn't sell your story :D

I can't imagine how weird it must feel to be queuing just for the bare essentials.

Good to see you're live and kicking... been a while since you've been able to get on here. :embarrassed:

Very interesting read. Looks like you went through hell, but I'm glad you don't live in New Orleans because that would be even worse than hell.

Great post Kent, i'm glad to see that you and your family are safe.

Its good to see an 'insiders' view of it, especially since we get a much less 'personal' report of the whole situation on British news channels and papers.

How does your home insurance work out with natural disasters?

In disaster releif funds, Insurance Companies all over north america go into a reserve fund for everyone instead of an individual policy.

Excellent post, Kent...I can only imagine what that must have been like. :nervous: I was curious about your food and water situation. What did you guys have stored up, and how long did it last?

Glad to know you're alive and well Kent.

Its good to still have you around.

I was curious about your food and water situation. What did you guys have stored up, and how long did it last?

Well the storm took us by suprise to some extent.
We knew about it but weren't paying it much mind.

So...
We had very little water and we were not going to dare drinking the water from the tap (boil advisory was in place and that's enough to scare me away).

The food situation was a little different.
We didn't have much in dry storage but in the fridge we had plenty.

Problem was, we didn't have power to keep it cool and so our food supply ran low quickly.
We ate well those first few days (grilling everything that was perishable).
But like I said, that quickly went away. :(

One of the best things that happend was getting food and water from FEMA.
I can't thank them enough for that.

Also, thanks for the kind words regarding my post (that's to everyone, not just Jordan).
I spent some time on it and really wanted to write it as well as possible. :D

a really great post. reading that has really changed my the way i think about life. I see more to it then what I ever knew. I have gotten some inspiration from it to not throw away life so recklessly.

Wow Kent, pretty powerful write up I must say. But there's not anything differently I can can other then I'm glad you a safe.

Welcome back Kent!! Glad to see you and your family are ok!

MREs... I feel your pain. Try eating them for a month straight. :yuck:

I have to admit that some of them aren't that bad though.

Welcome back Kent, its good to here from you again, thank god for keeping you alive ^^ and your family and others. Ill tell Lonewolfe that your alive and Kirkis also

Is there anything that you need that you can't get that can be shipped?

I wish I could say there was, but I don't think we need anything.

I really do appreciate what you all are doing.
The support from this place is amazing and I find myself somewhat dumb-founded by the generosity you all have shown me.

I can't thank you all enough but I will try.

Just read the write-up. I'm happy you and your family survived without injuries. The storm really was a beast. I live in NC so the only Hurricane that I've lived through was Hugo..and I was 1 1/2 years old. I can't even imagine what it would be like. My prayers are with you and your family Kent.

Whoa! Welcome back! I hope everything at home has restored order! I cant imagine going through such a disaster, once again, welcome back. :)
See you around the board,
Chris Duperre

Kent, just do us a favour if there ever is a next time. Please save us the worry and evacuate . Cat 4 and Cat 5 hurricanes/cyclones are extemely powerful!, its not worth the gamble on your life to stay!.

Very happy you made it through mate 👍.

Good to hear your getting your life back on track 👍.

Congratulations on making it, Kent. And thank goodness you can continue your education... when's your old school going to be back up and operational? And did you get your transcripts and records cleared before you moved? Could be a problem later on.

I've lived through some pretty big ones, and have always been thankful we've survived. But then again, we tend to build our houses out of cement and steel out here, as we get lots of big storms every year. I can seriously empathise with you living on limited rations for such a long time, but you're very very lucky man. :)

Not having the faintest idea of what it's like to be in a hurricane, your story is extraordinary! Not knowing if a tree is going to come crashing in at any moment when going outside would be even more dangerous must have been a real white-knuckle ride for you guys. Just glad that no harm came to you or your family 👍

Well thanks again everyone.

As for school...

I have been lucky this semester.
I got to pick up with a full-time schedule at www.selu.edu (south-eastern louisiana university).

Not a bad school. 👍
Student population of well over 15,000.
Lots of hot babes. :drools:

I wasn't able to get my transcripts or records. :(
However, because of the "disaster" "SLU" has given every displaced student "guest student" status. That means we don't need anything to go there (not even money so far!!! ).

It looks like I may be in the same boat next semester since "Delgado" looks like it will be offline for a long time to come.
Doesn't matter though!
I was planning on a transfer to SLU anyway... Just wish I could have gotten my assoc. degree before leaving. :irked:

Oh well.
Chin up and move on. 👍

Thanks again the for concern everyone.
This has been a trying time for everyone down here but I must admit... Even with my story, I was still lucky in this storm. :D

Lucky to have friends like you all and lucky to have a life to get back into.

Just read your story write up Kent, i have trouble sleeping on a restless night cos this area is dodgy, how you slept through a night like that i dont know, i wouldnt have been able too!.

Great read though and im glad that you remained safe for the duration.

Kent
Wow.

I don't know what to say. :boggled:

Thank you.
All of you, thank you.

I've spent the last hour typing out my story... It's about half way finished (I think).

I will post it up as soon as I can. :D

Thanks again.
Also,
I want to send my regards out to all those who were in this same boat with me.
I hope this disaster has not taken too great a toll on any of us.

Back soon with news, the full story, and whatever else I can think of,
-Kent

Finally your back!

You gave us quite a scare.

👍 To PunkRock for having a sharp eye ;)
