I think a dark blue R33 would look amazing.

Also, as much as I want to say that you should still go with a Legacy, I can't help but think a Prelude or something would be better. Would be easier on the gas for starters.

Amazing how much difference something like a seat makes.

And a new steering wheel

Unsure of the brand, my friend gave it to me for 50 bucks because he spent 200 on it a early last year before realising the car he was buying already had a momo wheel and he just never bothered getting rid of it till I mentioned I was intending on buying one. Score!

Boss kit is in transit.

EDIT: After taking a spin with the new seat installed I must say I'm impressed, it's amazing how such a simple thing totally changes the feeling inside the car. However I felt I had installed the seat too high, so once home I quickly unbolted the seat once more and bolted it lower in the frame, it now feels much better and actually lets me see the top of my speedo

EDIT 2: I also found a horn button I like the look of.

Still learning how to get in and out of the bucket seat without floundering around.. this thing has such absurdly high side walls

Boss kit - ETA 2 days. So excited to get rid of that manky old steering wheel.

So today I bought a rear sway bar from an R34 GT-T!

302855378.jpg

For the grand total of $11.50  I love 1 dollar reserve auctions.

I also had a massive coolant leak, I went through 5 litres causing my car to overheat.
Turns out the leak was my heater core, this is a common problem for Skylines and the best temporary solution is to re-route the heater piping to its self instead of to the firewall.

I'll fix it some day but at 500 dollars for air-con gas I really can't be bothered - the cabin is always too warm for my taste anyhow.

I also got the XR8 back from getting the new ECU fitted, after 2 years of sitting it's hardly running brilliantly.
Oil, filters and spark plugs are in transit - so for the mean time I thought I'd start cleaning it.

So I spent my weekend doing this with my mate Steve

So that we could do this

It's a good day.

There are some imperfections, bubbles and creases and dents we missed when bogging but overall, given the previous condition of my hood I'm pleased as can be! I'll likely give it another go when I obtain an alloy bonnet (May even splash out for real carbon fibre)

Now I know this look wont gel with everyone but keep in mind the previous bonnet had dents and rust all over it, anything is an improvement over that in my book

Next on the list is installing my rear sway bar when my bushes and bolts turn up, painting my brake callipers and rocker cover then I'm finally getting rid of the big bore exhaust in favour of a sweet OEM twin tip set up

4F747A16-9EF7-4B4D-B86B-54F73A77627C-1713-0000023C70739B19_zps4298fe20.jpg

I doubt I'll be sacrificing any significant flow returning to this exhaust set up as it was only the muffler that was modified, time will tell I suppose and I'll be getting a full 3 inch turbo back system once the turbo has been installed so it just means a quieter and more comfortable car in the mean time :)

In other news, the XR8 is almost completely restored, the only things remaining is to get the brakes bled and certified (Yeah, apparently I need to get my brakes flushed and bled by an approved mechanic - because y'know, it's such a difficult job...) but the long as buggery list has now become a short list of finicky rubbish that I can't just sit down and do for 4 hours which makes getting motivated more difficult

In other, other news - my mate crashed the XR6, dog jumped into the road when he wasn't paying attention so he swerved into the guard rail.. which is awful and all but 1) We have insurance and 2) This means he can't give me crap about crashing the Maxima, because he was literally the only one putting me down over it - I choose to believe it was karma reminding him that accidents can happen to anyone.

I also decided the bucket seat was a bit /too/ race spec for daily driving as I was getting pretty nasty bruising using the side wall of the seat to get in and out of my car, so that's gone - I've gone back to the factory seat until I can get a more middle range seat that caters both to daily comfort and support - if anyone has any recommendations I'm definitely happy to hear them!

Hopefully by the end of the month I'll have my loan so I can go get a GTS-T gearbox, R32 suspension (drops about 15 mill out of the ride height before lowering springs and bolts straight in which is awesome) smaller rims and Potenza's all around (Again, open to tyre suggestions but from my experience I've found Potenza's to be the best compromise between grip in wet and dry conditions and tyre life) GT-R bumper and wing (Logos removed, naturally. I'm not trying to pretend my car is something it's not - I merely enjoy the aesthetics of the GT-R kit) then paint.

I've firmly decided on Brilliant Blue from the S15 Silvia after much floundering between different ideas.

Brilliant blue is an awesome colour, great choice! The carbon wrap is a little questionable but anything is better than dents & rust in my book 👍

Well frankly I couldn't be bothered painting it if I was just intending on spraying the whole car, so for 40 bucks for a 1.52/2 meter roll of the stuff it's a pretty good compromise.

Like I said, I know it's not going to go down well with everyone but it just looks so much better that I simply don't care

Oh, and this is my mates car - so mine is pretty sedate in comparison

(Every black part is carbon fibre wrap)

Where'd you get the carbon wrap?

UltimatePC on TradeMe, highly recommended! Communication wasn't brilliant (As in there was none) but the product arrived in just 2 days.

Comparing the wrap to real carbon fibre it's actually quite convincing - it has great depth and has a very nice overall effect.
If you're interested in trying it get the 4D wrap, it has far better depth as it's a new design. comparing the new and old style is like night and day 👍

For installation will I need to reverse mount it for the best effect or will the standard fittings be sufficient?

Standard settings should be fine, I mean all of the race car drivers use them!

Cheers bud 👍 I was a bit concerned but I'm glad I can use the standard fitment, I hate having to go buy custom parts to get stuff like this to fit, it's always such a hassle

Nice carbon look bonnet. Wrapping with vinyl is way better than getting out the spray can. People who spray with matte black get it all splotchy and horrible.

I've got a few Carbon look parts on my car but only using the 3D stuff. Still looks good but the 4D must give a better look close up.

My mate has 4D on his hood but 3D on the headlights, the difference is staggering and there's just no contest - the 4D wrap is worlds better.

But yeah I would much rather have carbon wrap even with the couple creases I got since it was my first time ever wrapping anything (didn't even wrap my school books as a kid lol) than spray the bonnet on my driveway and get a sub-par finish.

The bonnet looks like a challenge if you try do it yourself. I did my front lip by myself. Took hours but I got there in the end.

The first thing I tried was my mirrors. They came out looking great. 4D would have been nicer but it wasn't available at the time.

Yeah, it's best to have mates around.

4D is definitely worth it, 42 bucks for a 1.52/2 meter roll isn't bad

I've got heaps of excess so I'm thinking of doing my rear view mirror because the plastic is all faded and looks as grey as a pentioner. That or I'm going to spray paint it black.

I just impulse bought this 300ZX...

305453987.jpg

It was a 1 dollar reserve auction with 1 minute to go, I quickly checked its history and placed a 1.8k auto bid..

I won...

It's in Hastings... Taking the bus down on the 11th..

What the hell have I done

Front portrait picture to hide the Advantis?

Stock rims, for once.

So nice to not have crap Advanti rims for once

And manual, naturally.

218 thousand Ks on the clock
All for the grand total of 1.7 thousand dollars.

<3 1 dollar reserve auctions.

You'll have a blast with it mate. The NAs are quite peppy when they're aren't paired with the rubbish auto gearbox.

Theres just something about these things that gets under your skin, so be ready for that. Has it had it's 200k service? If so, you've scored a true bargain 👍

It would seem so, if not I'm not too bothered about having to do it for the price.

Full service history is in the glove box so we'll see when I get down to Hastings.

How many cars do you have?

Including this Z? 5. R33, XR6 Turbo, XR8 Ute, Audi 80. Getting a Lancer GLXi as a daily too in the next couple months.

I choose to call it "Gran Turismo syndrome"

I thought you sold the Audi?

So did I.

My friend has been handling getting rid of it and he told me it sold; Next thing I know it's back on my driveway.

I think that's the opposite way of how it works. :P

If you lived closer I'd wash it for you, my specialty is pre-sale cleans. :P

Aren't Audi 80s the ones with the really cool braided lines for the ABS pump?

I couldn't tell you from memory, I could go have a look though if you're interested.

I honestly don't know what's going on with that, he told me it sold for like 4 grand and I was speechless but had no reason to doubt him. He said he was organising the sale through paypal which I thought was odd but again, I've always trusted him so I went with it.

Then nothing for weeks, then the Audi disappears - Awesome I thought, that's that finally bloody gone.

Then suddenly in the past like 2 weeks ago he turns up in it and asks me to store it??

I honestly don't know.. but I told him he can keep the money for the car since he was the one who bought my R33 for me so I've washed my hands of the whole thing - however it is still in my name and in my possession so it's still technically "mine"

"Gran Turismo syndrome"

Full service history is very hard to come by in anything this old, but in a 300zx it's nearly unheard of! Makes me wonder if it was sold there by a dealer brand new or if it was a private import. The locally sold cars tend to get quite the price boost over here 👍
