Hyundai new Direct injected Tau 5.0 liter V8 that will be replacing the 4.6 liter V8 gets a huge Power boost, While the old 4.6 tau churned out 385 hp, This new 5.0 lets loose a impressive 429 horse power, and 376 feet or torque, As well as a boost in fuel economy thanks to a 8 speed gearbox via shifttronic/flappy paddles shifters(2012 Genesis only).(Horse power and torque ratings for higher end Gas are still undisclosed at this moment, but my guess is about 440 hp, seeing as how the old 4.6 tau has a pretty big boost in power when using High octane premium

More info here. http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/12/hyundais-new-5-0-liter-v8-to-produce-429-horsepower/

Note: This engine/ trans is only slated for the Genesis sedan and Equus.
There is still no official talk from Hyundai of this engine coming for the Genesis coupe, How ever there have been rumors concerning this matter.

I don't think it'll fit. I mean, I'm not sure it won't, but the V6 already takes up about as much space as you can get between the shock towers. It's so close to the sides of the engine bay that they had to flatten the exhaust manifolds to get it to fit.

The V8 is wider, longer and taller. It won't fit under the stock hood or in front of the stock firewall... and there's the small matter of width clearance. Only fix would be to completely redo the Coupe's front end or put in a tubular front subframe to hold everything in.

It would be awesome... but seeing as how the V6 Coupe already has slightly nose-heavy weight balance (55:45... and trust me... the tires can tell), I don't think it would make the car any better. I'd rather see a factory twin-turbo V6 with a ZF box with a better torque rating. :D

They'll probably just going to have to widen the car then?

Needs moar supercharger. Seriously, what happened to that idea?

I believe it wont make an appearance in the current generation Coupe (the future could be promising however).

Case in point is the RMR Hyundai Genesis Coupe that was made a mid-ship just to get the Tau in there.

The Genesis Coupe (for the current generation...) will remain Turbo4/V6.

The V6 has been compared to the current stock of Pony Muscle and if I were Hyundai I'd take note and see what the market looks like for a V8.

The grapevine is that Hyundai is mulling over making the Gen Coupe a more direct Infiniti G37 competitor next generation, and they are open putting the V8 in that. But Snaeper is right: It absolutely will not fit in the current car.

That's not the RMR Coupe, that's the RM460.

I love the mustang and all. And adore that new 5.0. But shouldn't we be comparing it to it's direct "sedan" rivals? ie: BMW 5 series, Lexus GS, Mercedes E class, at the moment, with these numbers, Hyundai has these 3 beat. For example the range topping E class 5.5 liter V8 boasts 382 hp(Excluding the AMG model)
The BMW 5 series X drive with the 4.4 liter twin turbo V8 has 400 hp, and the lexus GS with the least of the bunch with only 342 hp, Not only in power but in fuel economy as well, with that 1% increase, it's now 18/26.

These kind of numbers are very impressive on the genesis part, I just don't understand why people are comparing it to the 5.0 in the mustang when these cars compete in completely different classes:crazy:.

They're both 5.0L V8s though. They're also brand new engines, so it's not hard to compare them. It would be absurd to compare the cars, but we're just talking engines.

Now if the tarus had the 5.0, that would be a highly appropriate comparison. but this? not so much.

They'll probably just going to have to widen the car then?

And lengthen it... and make the engine bay taller... it would ruin it. I'd rather have a somewhat compact, if heavy, 2+2 sportscar than something that's G-sized...

Wait:

Oh noes!

Wait, again... the G37 doesn't have a V8... that's the M-car, isn't it?

This is a thread about the engine. Not a thread about the car the engine will be going into.

Perhaps I should have wrote that better. The word is that Hyundai is planning on making the next Coupe more like the G37, as in somewhat heavier and larger. And because the Coupe could then be made big enough for the V8, they are thinking about offering the V8 in it.

Still, oh noes... I think I get what you mean. But I think the Coupe is already the right size. Could even stand to be a bit shorter and lighter.

Hyundais new big engines are quite impressive. Smooth, responsive, powerful... Just wish I had the chance to try the V8 in the Genesis Sedan (a terribly under-appreciated car).

Official release in the Genesis Sedan:

Come on Hyundai, you know if you put this engine in the Coupe it'll sell like crazy. DO IT!

It doesn't physically fit in the coupe. That's why the RM460 is mid-engine. Besides, it would totally screw up the weight distribution.

This new car looks awful though. They changed everything good it had going for it! The new headlights look terrible, new taillights look awful. The tails were seriously the most awesome of any car on the road with the way they lit up. What a drag. I just PRAY TO GOD they changed the seats to something more Benz-like. I hate that Lincoln Towncar hemmorhoid seat cushion they use.

Come on omnis the new 2012 looks extremely good, I'm not really digging the the infinity M tails but the rest of the car looks sporty and properly quick, The old one was nice but it was just a Lux Saloon this is a more "M moniker" type car, Im liking the Genesis 5.0 "RS".. Dont like r-spec sounds to tuner-ish for a car like this, RS would have been alot better, Like KIA do with there SX sporty variant name.

Not really, no. As I said, I think the first one looks better. The new interior looks cool though. Hope it's all black with the sport seats like I mentioned.

I agree with you that the original does look better, but im digging the performance variation over the handsome original, it just looks properly fast). But still really wish they left the tailights alone, head lights, etc.
