I´m thinking of buying a real race seat to compliment my current race rig.

At the moment i´m still racing in my office chair, which feels realy good and fixed with the two metal bars attached to it. But i want a seat that realy adds to the immersion.

Here's a picture of my current setup:

A playseat or anything like that with steering wheel and pedal holder is out of the question. My wheel has to be fixed to my desk, so i need a single seat only.

I have a car business and my race rig is situated in my business office. I can only set it up during the evening or in the weekends.

Here below you can find my thread:

Untill now i thought i did not have room to store any race seat, but then i started thinking

If i have a cool looking race seat, i can easly put it in the car showroom in a corner. This might even be a cool looking decoration of the showroom.

So i want to go for the real thing. Maybe even FIA homologated.

I found this seat at at autosportcompany

The looks of this seat (official FIA homologated) makes me wanne go out and buy it straight away.

I would have to buy the side mounts. With these i can adjust the angle of the seat.

The downside is that the back of the seat is NOT adjustable.

I could also go for this seat here below which is cheaper, but not so racy looking:

This seat does offer adjustability of the back of seat and still looks cool.

Both seats can be mounted on a universal rail for sliding back and forward.

My question is to all race seat owners: Should i go for the adjustable seat of just go for the "real thing"

I'd go for the adjustable one, I got a Sparco R100 and never looked back - it's plain awesome, hands down. Keep in mind that the tight ones might get uncomfortable over the course of the time, especially if you're not as slim as a race driver. :)

The sparco r100 looks good too

I am definately not as slim as a racing driver.
That but still that OMP champ looks realy cool.

The company that sell the seats is only 45 min drive from my home. I will give them a call and see if they have both in the store so i can try them out.

Something to keep in mind, real racing seats are made for safety and lightness rather than comfort. I would highly suggest going with a nice comfy reclinable seat. If you must go with a race seat try one out before you buy, race seats are design to squeeze you in so you don't move arround and depending on the person they might need a different model.

I got a Sparco America on Craiglist for $60 and then just mounted it to my rig. I would advise looking there.

I bought an OMP a few weeks ago for my rig, paid £165 GBP for it and sat in it for 30 minutes then took it off and sold it last week for £120 GBP :(
Much too uncomfortable for a home rig IMO (especially my one with motion)
It's such a shame cos it looked awesome and had the FIA labelling ;)

Thanks museumsteve. That's the anwer i was looking for. Someone who has bought a OMP fia seat and has some experience with it.

I will go for the more comfortable one instead.

Tom

An office chair always turns left /right or rolls back during heaving braking.

That's why i made the (detachable) metal bars on mine to prevent this.

Somehow a "racing office chair" is still a compromise

I have a playseat evoloution and its not uncomfortable except after 4hours of non stop driving i would reccomend it to anyone ,altho there a lot of good alternatives out there

They are all adjustable to suit common weight and heights from adult to children ,the only downside ive seen with all racing seats is the lack of adjustablity on the mount for the steering wheel itself ,you can bring it closer to you or further away ,but no pivot point for angle to point the wheel down for smaller drivers or up over for taller ,but if its just used for one person ,so it never feels like your own personal settings just universal
