Update Cars Tierlist

Hi all,

I had this idea and would be interested in the GTPlanet member opinion. Since the launch of GT7 back in April, a total of 99 update cars (up to January 2025) have been added through updates which means we will (unless something significant that says otherwise!!) cross over the 100 mark.

With that being said, I was thinking about a tierlist for specifically the update-added cars. I know this may take a little while to make whether you use a tierlist site or you create one on Google Sheets for example. Just for ease, I would grade as followed but it’s down to you really (you can rename the grades to something different for each):

  • S
  • A
  • B
  • C
  • D
  • F
You can have more or less grades too if you prefer.

This is something that crossed my mind so if you’d like to, I’d love to see your tierlist opinions on the update-added cars. You can certainly update your lists as more cars continue to get added. I’ll make one at some point to.

EDIT: I didn’t realise there was a dedicated one on tiermaker - still I’d love to see opinions. Use the link provided by hyperspeed980.

This was a fun little activity to do whilst I'm bored with nothing to do at work 😅

Of course this list reflects my personal biases - I prefer vintage cars, so the 50's Maserati is S-Tier despite not being particularly useful. I love the old Volvo and the DS is stunningly beautiful, so in to A-Tier they go.

As for D-Tier...well:
  • the CH-R and the Ambulance are pointlessly slow and frankly baffling choices for a racing game
  • the VGTs are fictional and ugly
  • the EVs are soulless appliances and feel awful to drive
  • the Mission X is dangerous
  • the poor ID.R isn't that bad, but it can't enter anything

After thinking it over with this visual aid, I see that most of the update cars have been pretty good. Most are solidly A Tier for me.

The cars that gave me a driving / tuning epiphany - driving bliss - go into S Tier. They are my hero cars.

But first, let us talk about the terrible...

TRIPLE F TIER
- SF19 / 23 / Honda / Toyota
- Annoying razor edge low speed handling no matter how you tune it. Stupid power delivery. Has massive sticky tires and less than 1000hp, but can't put the power down.

- F3500-A - See SF23, but with more power and worse low speed traction problems. Star of one of the most annoying weekly challenges.

- GR010 Hybrid - Time Trial Trauma - Super stiff corner entry combined with massive low speed power oversteer. Somehow worst of all worlds. Embarrassment to all endurance prototypes.

- 911 Carrera RS 901
chosen one.gif
- Borked physics gave this car Superbird levels of sudden rear grip loss in high speed corners. Has front downforce, but none for the rear  I had hoped for a quirky old racecar, but got a random deathtrap. Hoping the update fixed this.

- M3 e36 - Fully custom suspension caused catostrophic weight shift that made the car veer off track. The only solution was to use stock suspension or drive the car on stilts. Massive disappointment. Also hoping update 1.55 saves this.

- C1 Corvette - Annoying handling at the edge, Sounds cool, but 2nd worst generation of Corvette for me. Ultra meh.

- Genesis VGT Gr.1 - I can't get over my disappointment for this being an FR.

- Porsche Vision X - Can't put the power down. Wasted potential.

- Toyota C-HR S - Great cosmetic upgrades on a car massively held back by its drivetrain. Wasted potential

S TIER
- DS 12 - Among the best Front Wheel drive cars. Endlessly quirky and responsive.

- ID.R - Benchmark for electric prototypes. Give me all the torque and motor noise!

- Charger 440 R/T - Best handling muscle car and top FR car. 1000hp? No (traction) problem!

- RA272 - Captures classic F1 feel. Amazing cockpit view.

- XJ220 - Hero car from my childhood. Amazingly competent. Elevated to mythic aural glory with Group C V12 swap.

- HiAce - Among the best handling FR drivetrain vehicles in the game. Stock engine has amazing tuning variety (can be supercharged).

- R31 - Top FR drivetrain car, but still quirky.

- Alphard - Meme car acheiving greatness. V10 engine swap is more fun to drive than the LFA

- Escort - Underpowered 4WD bliss.

- 190 E Evo II - DTM brick. Overflowing coolness.

- 240 - Turbo drift brick. Questionable handling, but I love it anyway.

- W196 - Classic F1 handling. Responsive and communicative.

- 992 Turbo S - Engine and chassis crafted by the Demigod of Competence.

- 904 - Old school prototype executed brilliantly

- Ioniq - Incredibly fun EV and a great hint at where GT7 car customization should go. Through GT7 I can tell that the N division really cares about making EVs fun to drive. Just short of greatness.

- Lancer Evo III - Old school 4WD maximum attack!!!

- R32 Nismo - Fully upgraded sledgehammer showed me why this car beat up everything in race trim.
