Hello everyone.
Recently I started taking public transportation, cheaper then gas ;)
Anyways
On the 30-40 minute bus ride, I get bored...
I need a good MP3/video/pictures player.. I think pretty much all MP3 players can do everything now a days.

I was thinking about iPod.. but it's a fashion statement... the way I see it, but hey maybe I change my mind...
I also was looking on the ZUNE... both iPod Classic and ZUNE are 250$$$ and are both at about 120GB.
I was watching few comparison videos on both, seems Most videos they seem pretty the same and people like the ZUNE controls and other minor aspects...
Do I have to subscrbibe to ZUNE website and buy music from them? can I just rip music from my PC HDD and upload to ZUNE player?

Anything I need to know? Any katches? what do you people think? Give me all the things you know.. and I do not wanna hear ZUNE sucks, get iPod, or ipod sucks get ZUNE, I wanna get a good buy and be happy with my new MP3. I have some music from torrents like drum n bass, trance etc.. will they work?
Seems this is newest model.. looks good as of right now for me

As far as I know, the ZUNE 2.0 is actually a very good player and really has become a reasonable alternative to the otherwise "standard" iPod. Key features in my mind are the WiFi-shared music playlists with your friends, that, as well as the FM radio tuner. At least for me, that is an especially nice thing to have, because I know I'd like to have my NPR break between classes on occasion.

Truth be told, I don't think you can really go outright "wrong" these days. Now that much of the DRM idiocy has ended with the Zune Marketplace, I can't think of much to complain about these days.

why dont you get the bit older 80GB zune. its only 20GB (which isnt much) and is 50 dollars cheaper now? seems like a better deal. Its not like you cant put a crap load of songs and movies with only 80GB compared to the 120GB zune.

If you can find a Cowon A3 on ebay It would fit the build. Cowon makes some amazing stuff. I have an A2 and it holds 20GB which is fine for me. To me. iPod = consumer whore. Zune = I want to be a different consumer whore. Cowon = HEY WHATS THAT? A GPS?
cowon-a3-pmp.jpg

It'll fit in your pocket, and deliver Wide screen movie viewing. Plays almost everything under the sun too. Whats not to love?

Cowon reminds me of Archos , similar layout, but how is the sound quality? Looks more like a portable movie player rather then MP3, sure I would save some video and pictures, how's the battery live in Cowon?

As well altho for 50 bucks I get 80 gig one, for 50 more i have 40 more gigs, I want to buy something and never worry about running out of memory, I have a lot of music and videos but i rather listen to music in bus and in car. But you are right, it will take ages to fill out 80 gig, by the way any difference from 80 to 120 gig models? Like do i get few more options with bigger one? or get better earphones?
FM sounds good, Here in Philly we have 2 great radio stations and each morning they have very funny talk shows.

Found this neat video..

They seem really great, I bet a lot more features then zune or ipod, but seem rather bit big.

i dont remember the differences internally between the 120gb and 80gb but aesthically, they look identical and microsoft will be (unless they already have) release the same firmware for the 80gb as the 120's now

I have a 30GB Creative ZEN Vision M and it's only been filled up a little past halfway after 2 years. I pretty much copied all the music that I had on my computer hard drive. I only used the video feature a couple of times in the beginning, but it was sort of meh after that. 80GB should be more than enough unless you want to store a lot of videos and uncompressed audio.

I have a Zune and love it, never had a problem with it. I had numerous iPod in the past and they had been unreliable for me, but the Zune can be in cold weather, get a bit wet in the rain, and be dropped and it's still ok. The only complaint is the battery only lasts a couple hours, but it didn't really bug me all that much. Also I think Zune 3.0 is out now.

the batter life is for 30 hours on big 120 and 20 for 80.. That i don't worry about, good thing you say it will survive cold, since winter is coming up

Just to make sure, I do not have to SUBSCRIBE to zune website thingy? I just want my music from my PC so it should work? I hear someone mentioned that you have to subscribe then you can put music into the zune..

I didn't have to subscribe, you have to put the Zune Tunes thing on your computer to transfer music but I have my Zune full of music I...uhhhh...acquired from my computer. I have the smaller one, the 30 gig, as I got it when it was released and the battery life is weak but I watch a lot of movies and such on it so it's to be expected. I'm sure then are much better now.

I bought one of the first gen ipod nano's. I literally ran over it with a 10 ton front end loader and all it did was scratch it up some. I know the ipod's are what everyone has, but everyone has them for a reason. Apple makes great products. All you need is itunes, (which is free) and all the music and videos you have on your computer will work flawlessly. My nano is music only and I use to use it every day for about 9-10 hours a day at work. Not once did I run the battery clear out. I really don't see how you could go wrong with an ipod for music. As for video I'm not sure because I have never used an ipod that supports video, but if I imagine you would have no problems with it at all.
I recently had to send of my macbook for repairs because my kid broke the disk drive. After shipping it out on a tuesday, I got it back on a thursday. Apples support is the best in the business.
Anyway, there is my experience with the ipod, and apple.

That is what I am looking for and wanted to hear !! thanks!👍👍

Ok off ZUNE website it states
ZUNE 80
Music, up to 24 hours (wireless off); video, up to 4 hours

Charge Time: 3 hours; 2 hours to 90 percent

ZUNE 120
Music, up to 30 hours (wireless off); video, up to 4 hours

Charge time: 3 hours; 2 hours to 90 percent

On one video guys said his zune 80 ran for 22 hours before dying
so sure zune website tested them out with prob medium sound, and medium quality and rounded the numbers ;) but 25-30 hours in 120 model sounds good to me

I use my A2 every day. It'll last about a week if you use it for like an hour or 2 on full volume every day.
Last weekend I used it on a car trip and watched Two movies on it and still had extra battery left when we got to where we were. Pretty much, charge it once a week and you're good.

It's not exactly a Portable movie player. Its refered to as a PMP which is short for Portable Media Player. If you go to the site it'll pretty much list out everything it can do.

I'm pretty sure the only thing that will not work in the states is the DMB tv function. And the models for the A2 and A3 i suppose are exactly the same. They all do the same thing, ones just the newer model.

If you're going to buy something and use it for videos and music its gotta be something big or its going to cause eyestrain. The A3 and A2 are really smooth so they'll just slide into your pocket if youre worried about the size.

Really thats all my input. I highly reccomend the A3 as the thing to get. So many more options over the others.

I'd look into Archos, they have a variety of sizes that do all of what you ask, have replaceable batts and can also be used to access the internet. I have an Archos 704 and love it.

Oh, also... you can dump most vid formats on it and play unlike other players that need to be transcoded.

archos-704-wifi-pmp.jpg

Neh, both of them more for media and videos, i want something more for music and little for videos. Since zune can play anything from my pc... umm huhmm... that i acquired, then it's going to be perfect. By the end of the week I will still make my mind up and make a choice.

Well I don't really have anything to contribute, but if you ever need anything about classic iPods I do have one. :) As an owner of a sixth generation 160GB iPod Classic i do enjoy using it everyday, as both a hard drive an as a mp3/mp4 player. Sure it would weigh more than the other players, but everything else seems flawless. Battery life seems pretty awesome with 12+ hours of music playback and 8 hours of video playback. 👍 But yeah, the scroll wheel isn't really that good (as sometimes the respond is a bit sluggish) and some small problems...... and yes, you could sync your music or videos from your HD into your iPod without a problem. I never bought a single thing on iTunes anyways! :D (yeah, but apparently iTunes isn't available in Malaysia....)

I don't really know much about the Zune or the other mp3/mp4 players so I can't comment much about them. :guilty:

Here are a list of players, but I'm not sure whether they are out already or restricted to overseas...

This was suppose to be the player that would replace my touch but it was never released... I suppose the W7 is the same thing but without the Wifi.

That looks good,
Competition for the Samsung would be the Sony Walkman 8 gig?

I wouldn't get Sony period, they aren't that great for the price. Expensive. Other than that I don't know about Sony vs Samsung. I'd wager the Samsung being better or at least more affordable or a better buy.

Also, when I see WMP written anywhere to go with an Mp3 player I avoid like the plague because you must use WMP to get songs on and well it's just over all a waste of time. Like Creative.

That looks really sexi
but only 8 gigs. I need more ! :D

The problem is, 8gb is the standard (sorta) since if you go higher on flash hd drives then it gets more expensive. Apple is able to get away with it since... well it's Apple.

Creative Zen. They can be had in sizes up to 32gb, have a decent sized screen but aren't big, and have an SD card slot. And they can be had for cheap and Creative has decent audio quality.

Doesn't the thread title say 100GB + ? I would recommend an iPod classic, I have the 160gb and couldn't be happier with it, works great and I got it for a decent price when it first came out.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure your only options are hard drive-based MP3 players. So it's either an iPod Classic or a Zune. Personally, I would get the new Zune because it features WiFi and radio.

Exactly thank you

Yeah I think ZUNE is my way to go, 80 gig one is cheaper, but for only 50 buks more is 120 gigs, and bigger battery life by 7-10 hours.

So only black is available with the 120 gig? Anyone knows if RED is coming out any time soon?

I haven't heard of anything with other colours but there are numerous cases out there which change the colour. It's also not a bad idea to get a case because accidents do happen. Also a screen protector is helpful.

Black looks great anyways, and about cases, nehh.
Since It is USB, can I plug in to my PS3, I know ZUNE and Xbox 360 work together, but will it with ps3?

Of course! But it will just be detected as a USB device anyways(that won't effect stuff like playing music on it).
