I can't play in Sport mode: basically, I do the qualify laps, but when the system should match me with other players, it kind of disconnect me. I can see other player names but they simply are not there. I understand that I have been disconnected from 2 factors: 1- connection status bars are black (nor green or yellow) and 2- other cars are stopped in the pit lane. If the race starts, other cars stand still at the start and I am the only player moving. It's kind of strange because one time I tried to finish one of these ghost race, and at the end i resulted last, and I could see other people times and positions. Please help me, I love Gran Turismo and I just want to have fun online

Key questions:
Is your console connected by ethernet or wirelessly?
What does it report in internet connection test as your download and, more importantly, upload speed?
What does it report in internet connection test as your NAT type?
What's your internet ping like (check on speedtest.net)?
Is your ISP gamer friendly or does it throttle gaming?

Wireless connection;
Download 51 mbps; download 10 mbps;
NAT type 2;
ping: varies from 5 to 15

I play on a pretty slow (10mbs) wireless connection without any difficulty, maybe 5 disconnects in 500 races, low ping too. You should get in touch with the company providing your internet and speak to them about it

I’ve haven’t had any issues with wireless connection. ^^

Yes and many others won't have but you can get all kinds of interference with wireless that you just don't get with a wired connection. Also some routers will have poor wireless capabilities and I doubt the receiver in the PS4 is that great, the one in my PS3 just stopped working for instance.

It's something you have to eliminate as a cause if you have problems and it's easy enough to do for most people.

It would be interesting to know the Op's country and ISP too, to rule them in or out as an possible issue.

The strange fact is that I don't have problems with Lobby mode, I can join 99% of the times.
By the way note that I have an Italian PSN account and I live in the US currently, so the game links me with European lobbies by default. But I tried Sport mode with a US account and it gave the same issue

Perform a test of your internet connection on the PS4 settings, especially looking for packet loss.

Vast numbers use wireless, if it is working correctly it should no be relevant.

Vast numbers use wireless
Which rather misses the point.

Your connection to the internet is only as strong as its weakest link, and all users should ensure that everything that is within their control is as strong as it can be.

Wireless is a weaker link than wired. Even assuming the user is using as up-to-date router as possible with the latest wireless protocols - which is not automatically a safe assumption - wireless signals can be affected by microwave ovens, vacuum cleaners, mobile phones and even people walking around. Wired will, unless someone hammers a nail through the patch cable by mistake or you're only able to find a Cat3 cable, always be a better and more reliable option.

I'd also take the steps of assigning the console a static IP address and assigning that IP address to the router's DMZ. Loads of people don't and they play just fine, but it ensures that what's in your control is optimised and locked down.

After that you can look at if your ISP sucks, but that's a real ballache. May as well see if the stuff you can do in five minutes with very little required knowledge helps first, eh?

Of course wired is better, and for me for example its a no brainer since I moved my ps4 from the lounge, I have a wired up study with all kinds of stuff, a ps4 is just another box and I guess this is true for you too.. but most people aren't us and I dont think first port of call for all problems is just to assume wifi is to blame when there isnt any evidence that it is. The fact he says lobbies seem to work would imply it probably is not no?

Which nobody did.

However, a wireless connection is a glaringly obvious weak spot in the information transmission pathway from one user's console to everyone else's. It's also one which is in the direct control of the end user themselves and, in almost all cases, frighteningly easy to fix.

Once their own house is in order - literally - other reasons can be sought for the root of the problem.

Couldn't say for sure. Perhaps, perhaps not.

The things with crap connections is quite like the thing about being dead. The people who are dead don't know that they're dead, but it affects everyone else. A lot of the time - and P2P is an absolute sod for this - the person with the crap connection has a fine time, while everyone else suffers.

It also might depend on geographical distance. If he's playing in lobbies with people in a 2,000 mile radius, it might stand up. Sport Mode pairs people from the USA with people from Brazil. That could be as much as 8,000 miles in a straight line, and 14,000 miles by the cable routing. That's going to show up any deficiencies somewhat!

Nah. Whole house. 200 feet of Cat6, lots of crimping and a three-foot drill bit :D It even goes to my garage!

I had a similar issue recently where sport mode kept freezing after update 1.17 and I couldn’t play at all. I tried re installing, deleting temporary network data. Nothing worked until the latest update 1.18 and now it is back to normal. Unfortunately you may have to sit tight till the next one?

I guess we just disagree on whether wireless should be regarded as a 'supported configuration'. I think it should but I know many disagree.

I watch a lot of my television wirelessly - casting from phone over WiFi to Chromecast - but a little buffering (not that it happens in my house; probably nothing to do with me though, as the router, phone and Chromecast all use .11n and are within five feet of each other) never hurt anyone.

Would never use it for online gaming though. Ever. For online racing, where you need less than a foot of precision at 100mph and up, even more ever. Everer? Everest. No, that's a mountain.

@nsx ... I would deffo try the DMZ thing mentioned above. Weird that lobbies work but sport doesn't, although doesn't each lobby have a host? I don't know if the lobby system is peer to peer, bit like project cars 1 is/was (so you connect to another user rather than central server). If the difference is that lobby system *is* p2p, and sport is run from a GT sport server, then one would suspect that there's something weird going on specifically to do with your connection to servers in sport mode.

Shot in the dark, but have you tried using a usa account, but first reboot your router before launching gt sport with that USA account? You might get a different I.p. from your internet provider upon router reboot which might kick something into place.

Maybe do a video share of what you see too :) Good luck.

The fact is that Wireless is not the sams for everybody allot of factors there. So the easy way is now to just TRY with a cable and see if its still a problem. Just pick a cable up and run it thru the house not hiding it or whatever its just a test. If that not help you can look further in router settings or isp related stuff.
