I didn't know Hummer's where this light.

Unless the picture has been edited, it is real. It may have portrayed the Hummer doing something you believe it couldn't under the shown conditions, but it cannot be called fake.

It's real - the H2 can withstand that kind of punishment. It was taken during MotorTrend's Extreme Road Test of the H2...

We stepped out onto the dunes with the goal of testing the H2s sand-clawing prowess and to snap a few quick pictures of the Hummer having fun. However, the wind was blowing strong and a good sandblasting was the last thing any of us wanted, so we moved with speed. After some hill-climb testing, Steve Daxer was asked to perform a mild jump off one of the dunes for photo purposes -- a challenge he quickly accepted. As the nearly 6700-pound H2 approached the lip of a sizable dune, I knew something memorable was about to happen. Somehow my "not too much speed" request was overlooked, and consequently, the copper H2 sailed off the dune with unbelievable height. We all waited to see exactly how many pieces would explode off the H2 upon landing, but amazingly, the big rig sucked up the crash-down with amazing ability. Steve asked if he should do another jump (for photo purposes, of course) but I figured it was best that we leave while everything remained attached and still functioning.

If you'd like to read more, this paragraph was taken from this page of Motortrend's report. And, if you want, you can find the full image on the bottom of this page.

Actually, has anyone seen the new Toyota truck commercial, forgot which truck, but it shows it in the desert and oddly it ramps off a dune, but it's like less then a foot off the sand, and it makes a huge sand cloud.

Thus, it is possible to ramp over a dune, but the pic of the H2 is a fake based on the miniscule sand cloud, hight which is nearly impossible by the viehicle shown, and the angle which would make the landing sketchy if not dangerous.

Case closed. :)

Obviously, most of you didn't read my post.

The main reason I am defending this is also because I saw the Hummer H2 do that during Motor Trend TV.

big jumper.....

i doubt theramp theory as the back wheels indicate the car just took off and as the car is going down a slope any ramp positioned would make the car jump downwards and not upwards, i suggest the jump button situated under the steering wheeel near the hydraulic auto adjustment chamber, lol.

"i doubt theramp theory as the back wheels indicate the car just took off and as the car is going down a slope any ramp positioned would make the car jump downwards and not upwards"

Huh?! If they put a plywood runway on the upside of the dune, covered it with sand(thus the lack of a substantial sand cloud), and drove the H2 over it, it's an upward slope, it will launch the car up, not down...

??

em, It looks like the car jumped off the top of the sand dune,
plywood theory= rrrrrrriiiiigggghhhhhttttt

?? ?? ??

No no, you said that a ramp would cause it to jump downwards. Now how the hell is something launched off a ramp going to "jump downwards"?! The whole point of any ramp it to launch something in the air, upwards. This is simply achivied by the law of inertia and momentum, an object in motion won't change it's course unless acted upon by a force. If you launch a car off a ramp, it's moving in the direction of the ramp, the ramp's slope. It will continue that way till the end of the ramp, where it loses the ramp's force and is pulled down to earth by the force of gravity, 9.8m/s/s(it's the same for all objects and things in the world mind you). When driven off a ramp, the object will continue in the direction of the ramp, the slope, and then curve down to earth. The object does not just jump downwards, it continues upwards it can't overcome gravity's force.

And, if you look at the dune, as seen in the Motor Trend Wallpaper posted by Jordan, the launch part is kinda odd, it's flat. By common knowlage, dunes are shaped by the wind, which is not flat like shown in the pic. Also, the lack of sand in the air(there is a very small amount in the air, not the amount created by going over a normal dune) makes it seem like something was changed for the pic. While it might not be plywood or any wood or ramp, the dune could have been compressed by a leveller(the thing that vibrates with the flat bottom that makes sand, dirt, and other materials compact and solid, it's used in making driveways and paving roads) to create a surface stong enough to withstand the force of the H2 on the sand. This would also explain the hight and lack of sand in the air.

Unless I totally miss read your post, BMW, though I'm sure I didn't...

Heh, you've clearly never seen a sand dune. :) Drive up to the western Michigan coast and check them out... it's a marvel of nature. And the dune in the picture clearly has its peak directly where the Hummer took off. It's certainly not flat, it's normal for a sand dune. Check out the peak of the dune closer to where the photographer's standing; that's how it is where the Hummer jumped, too.

I don't know why you think any amount of plywood would support the weight of a 7,000 pound vehicle on free sand...

well i dont wanna argue with n e body but a lot of theories could be plausable due to the nature sustained by the Hummer in the pic.
