Course Maker, Track Editor or whatever the name is, haven't been on GT series since the first one until on GT5 where it's possible to make hundreds of tracks. Majority of GT5 fans were only doing CM more than the other stuffs. PD did promise CM would return to GT6 and haven't been there for over a year. After all we get free stuffs in GT6 like tracks, cars, and B-spec, yet most people were dissatisfied just for missing one thing.

Because I didn't get a chance to play GT5 before, I don't see the point of CM when it's not included in previous games, and I see the point why PD took more time to bring CM to GT6 (probably because of PS3's hardware liitation). Whether they could bring CM to GT6 or not, for me it is purely optional and have less impact to the game (aside from online and arcade but I rarely play those mode).

Before you guys tell me I've never seen creator mode, I played them in certain games before (except minecraft), but those really puts me to sleep.

How come CM was the biggest feature and the last resort of GT series when there are better stuffs than CM and that is only in GT5?

Because it is/was the single biggest feature of GT6 that actually put it head and shoulders above GT5, it was widely hyped by PD up to the release of the game as being pretty much ready for imminent release following the release of the game, and we're going into a year and a half and still don't have it while also having pretty much no news whatsoever for where it went.

You already answered your own question.

it's possible to make hundreds of tracks

Since GT is sorely lacking in dirt and snow tracks, it's nice to be able to create a seemingly infinite amount of your own, same as with regular tarmac tracks in various locations. I enjoyed making tracks that had elevation changes, character and corners that would blow Hermann Tilke's mind. To me most of the real world and GT circuits are all a bit samey.

But sometimes I enjoyed driving on certain tracks even if it gets repetitive (My favorites are Willow Springs, Mt. Panorama, Mid-Field, and Nordscleife).

CM could relieve the classic GT tracks not seen on later games, that's a positive side of CM.

I'm confused by your earlier statements of "it wasn't in the older games, why are they adding it now?" - isn't that how games evolve? Adding more features to enhance user experience?

The course maker is one of the few places where you get freedom to be creative. While it's gotten a lot better in GT6, there is still very poor levels of car customization and personalization, no way to create your own races or events, (*edit) career mode is incredibly short and the races provided are incredibly short, lack diversity, and hardly utilizes a majority of the assets and upgraded features (weather/time cycles and fuel consumption/tire wear) that the game constantly boasts about. So you're limited to online, which is still very limited in event creation; even Arcade mode has reduced the amount of options and tools you get to build a race. Photomode is the only feature where users can kinda do whatever they want.

The course maker from GT5 wasn't very in-depth (it mostly generated courses based on set parameters across a generated landscape), but it still gave the users a semi-dynamic method creating new usable content - that's the key here. There's so little career/story aspects and replay value in GT6 compared to past games. The course creator, at least how it's been advertised, would basically give an unlimited amount of user-generated content. That's where a lot of the hype comes from.

And yes, sometimes you want to want to race on real tracks, but you can do that in literally every other simulator - GT (whenever it decides to deliver) gives you the ability to build your own, in addition to real world circuits - that's the selling point.

There are many existing threads related to the Course Maker. Another really wasn't necessary.

You don't see the point in bringing Course Maker to GT6 because it wasn't featured in previous games? What a ridiculous argument. It's called evolution. On that basis GT should not have online play as it hasn't been there since GT1.

Well the course maker combined with the GPS tool if it works properly would be the most innovative thing ever in a racing game. It could be absolutely huge and give us potentially thousands of real world layouts to drive/race on. It could be by far the best feature ever added to a racing game. I know I was looking forward to mapping out some of the mountain roads in my area and loading them into the game.

But what is the data limit for the GPS scanner feature? I bet no one thought of that. It can't be infinite, that's for sure. Maybe 10 miles maximum, assuming it scans elevation, road with (from Google Earth), and possibly but unlikely road texture. No one knows.

This feature is highly anticipated from myself and others, but will it live up to its name?

I doubt that would be a factor.

I imagine it would simply log the point number and then the x,y,and z co-ordinates of that point.
Depends on how often it takes a reading, but it's a very low amount of data to store.

If I was to physically survey a road using a GPS unit I would literally walk the centreline of the road, stopping to take a reading as often as the level of detail was required.
(Flat straight road, spread the points out ... going around a bend or a change in grade, close them up.)
The unit would record the point number and the latitude, longitude and elevation (x,y,z) of that point.

Dump that data onto a computer and the software draws a string by joining those points together in the correct order to draw the centreline in 3 dimensions.
Generate replica lines that are offset a set distance on both the left and right sides of the centreline, and bingo ... track.

Purely guessing of course, but I imagine the CM GPS App. would work off the same basic principle.

Well if there's a limit to how data it can hold, I'd say that's probably however much extra room you happen to have on your phone, like any other app... And location data honestly can't be that big. I doubt this will be an issue, at least unless you try to build a track longer than the confines of the area they allow you to use.

Honestly, I was hyped for it at first, but now it's not really a big deal to me. I have just been rather dissappointed with how PD handled this game. Yes, we've gotten lots of VGT cars and a few real cars that I happen to like, but I don't like supporting a company that has such an unprofessional business practice.

I don't like Comfort Mediums either.

You sir, are a colossal anus.

Anyway...

With regards to the original topic, the reason why Course Maker is heavily sought after by players is because it was promised by KY from the start. We forgave him for not being able to include it in the game's release, but damn, more than a year has passed already and the feature still isn't available. You have to asked, "what's the holdup"?

Ah yes, because improved engine sounds, career, physics, addition of livery editor etc cannot do this.
Well honestly better engine sounds would be good but would not make the game more fun nor make me want to play it any more than I do now. Better career would be nice but better online would be better. The physics are pretty good already better is always better but I do not like the idea of changing physics in updates, this actually hurts the game even if improving it as some of us would have to go back and re tune any number of cars to deal with the changes and that is just not cool. Of course if something in the physics is broken then that should be fixed via update but willy nilly changes are not a good thing.

As for a livery editor that would do nothing for me, sure it would be nice to have the ability to add some stripes and decals but it is very low on my list of what would make the game fun.

The addition of leaderboards would do more for the game than any of those things but who knows if the folks at PD will ever give us that one little thing which is so important to a racer and all others have..

The course maker does have the potential to add a great deal to the game and bring back people who have quit playing and/or sway people who have not bought the game yet. Better sounds, tweaked physics and/or livery editor would not be enough for most of us.

Course Maker will arrive magically around the same time Project Cars is released

So CM means Corsa Motorsport? I know now. Thanks!
