I hope in Future GT games you can actually design your own car

I wouldn't really have the chance to design an all new car, even for the sake of it being some form of hybriding, but I would like custon decals and vinyls for race mods, if they come back.

See my post earlier ITT.

A lot of people are saying they want to mess with engine parts and drivetrains, etc, while using the chassis and body bits that are already in-game.

Now, this isn't exactly a new thing to do. 'hybriding' has been around for ages, and while it can produce decent results, it's still limited in that you're not really creating anything just as someone doing an engine swap isn't really creating anything.

I remember doing a bit of this with the old NFS computer games (mostly HP2). Just copy-pasting the engine files from one car to another, maybe giving the suspension a bit of beef. And while you could make some decent cars, you weren't making YOUR cars, which I believe would be the problem for those who are into this kind of thing.

Also, LOL @ the university comment. I go to university, and I know they kick people out who do that.

Basically you summed up why its not possible yet, because you cannot design your own car, you would only be taking parts from other cars and putting them together. For a game to accurately simulate the effects of weight distribution and chassis combinations on handling and grip is not possible yet without testing them in real life first. But some sort of aspect of design is wanted by the community, i still think we are at least 5-10 years away fromn achieveing it.

I think the chassis would definetly have to be pre-set, you can't just design your own chassis ingame, the game and console would not be able to accurately calculate how the car would handle. But with the Drivetrain and then choosing an engine, where to mount it, vertically or horizontally, then some sort of editor showing weight distribution. That is what i want to see :D

Well, with chassis I simply meant stuff like setting values for weight, stiffness, weight distribution, etc. I agree that completely designing a chassis probably wouldn't work, but I'm sure the cars in GT have some parameters that try to replicate chassis design.

Also, there should be detailed rules for certain race series, so if you want to enter a certain car into the series, it should have to adhere to the rules, that way there would be a point in not using all the best stuff (but of course, there should also be ridiculous races with no car limits at all). Included in those rules would be rules for a street legal car.

Sega GT was the game that hooked me on racing games, and I loved that feature, as well as the sponsership aspect.

I would love to see it reinstituted in GT5 or another racing game possibly.

In fact I believe you could build a great game around the "Build your own car" alone.

Be your own Carroll Shelby, Jack Roush, or Roger Penske so to speak.

I actually thought of that once too. Building up a company would be a great experience, hopefully a lot of challenging racing and designing would be included.

Yea it could be in the same category as some other games,

"Car Tycoon" or maybe "Racing Car Tycoon" but with the racing aspects as well.

With the capability of the new consoles, I believe you could have a fair amount of sophistication.

Basically a very advanced "Car design livery" where you can build the car and then custom paint it as well.

Why stop at just using stock parts? Why not have have it so you can design every single element of the car? In fact, why not go as far as designing the machines that make the parts? Hell, why not even...ah, forget it. Literally...

GT doesn't know beforehand what the pitch of a MX5 going into a corner is.

But it calculates it.

You input variables into the engine...it process them, and you test them against what you want them to be.

It CAN accurately simulate the effects of weight distribution and handling and grip. But it's up to you to give it the right parameters before you get it right.

I'm trying to not be confusing, but do you understand what I'm getting at?

If it was less than this...why bother? Suspension can be changed as can engine performance. a New Chassis, on the other hand (and with a body made, and then put through a 10-second basic cfd test or something for aero variables, and maybe a roll cage builder and a flex testing mechanism)....
