I just want to race. Is that impossible ?

On-line races; what about A-Spec races? The AI drivers in the upper A-Spec races intentionally try to spin you and knock you off course. The NASCAR series is terrible! I won the championship but the other drivers did stuff that would get them a penalty in a real race. Several times I was driving Laguna Seca in the lead when some bozo would nudge me into a spin from behind causing me to come in dead ass last. The Indy 500 in the Endurance races is almost as bad.

@FilletOfSpam: In my opinion, the biggest cause to this problem is the lack of lateral vision we have in the game. Most of the time there no way to notice a car trying to overtake you when it is 3/4 of lenght on your side (of course this depends on the camera being used, but I assume most of us use the cockpit or the hood cam).
In a real race, you would have to backoff and let the other car take the turn, but in the game 90% of the time an accident will happen, as you can't see the car is there.

It actually is impossible...the AI are sooooo annoying and racing online is just as frustrating...people dont sign up to race series due to timezones and when you do find someone they cant join because of the times...and when they do sign up they dont effing show up....it is actually really impossible....

Well, one month after my initial post I would like to give you all an insight into what changed in that month.

People who read through this thread have probably noticed that some GTP users invited me to add them to my friends list for some head-to-head races. This completely changed the way I play GT5 !
Aspec (offline) was the way I always played the game, but since this thread I met a truckload of like-minded people who are friends of the people here at GTP that I added to my friends list. Now, I don't even like driving the seasonal events anymore! I really call myself a true "shuffle-head".

The fun thing is - and I can somehow relate to the previous poster - that there is no definitive form of commitment necessary to have a blast! I personally do have work-related issues committing to an online league because - and my new friends experienced that already multiple times - sometimes I get a call and I have to go (permanence shift for work while at home :ouch: ). But with the friends list it is soooo easy: "Oh, I see X is online, doing a shuffle-race with Y and Z. I'll just click this join button here and off we go!" 👍

The absolute beauty is that, even though you have no idea who these people are, what they do for a living, what they look like or how old they are, you just couldn't be bothered by petty things like that; you get to know them somehow in a i-have-respect-for-your-driving-as-you-do-for-me kind of way (don't know if that makes sense for anybody but I feel it really is something about respect).

Just for fun, yesterday, I joined a random PP limited raceroom: 2 minutes and I left, no respect, nobody left room when driving out of a corner with 2 cars side-by-side, bumperbashing, cornerdiving ... need I go on.
Then I joined a random shuffle room and guess what: same thing.

Bottom line: everyone with the same "problem" I had: find some like-minded drivers and have a blast ! People with the same mindset have respect with each other. Granted: things do go wrong but that is mainly related to the limits of the game (FOV and such) but you concede your gained place when you feel it was a bad move from your part or if that is not possible, apologise when back in the lobby. If someone drives me off the road because he did not see me and afterward, he apologises, ok no problem. This type of behavior is all about respect and having the balls on your body to admit that you can actually make mistakes, and that - to me - is what good online racing is all about.

And I, my dear readers, have found just that.
 Many thanks to all posters and volunteers (you know who you are :sly: ) who invited me to some of their shuffle races.

Great follow-up-post, my friend 👍 Always a pleasure to race with you, allthough you're far too quick for me :sly:

See you around at the track :)

Couldnt agree more. Many times you end up in a "Fair" lobby just to find out that you are deliberately taken out in the first corner and then you are the last car trying to catch up. Even worse I would say are the ones that push you directly from start and make you spin before even started :-(
I guess the above advices of joining a league or finding PSN-friends to race with is the best option. I would be honored to accept your invitation.

Hey, I know it's late and all, but if you want to have a few clean races then add me. I've seen you around in some of the shuffle rooms recently and I totally know what you mean about lack of respect, although sometimes you do get the odd shuffle room that is full of great drivers - one I remember is OnlyMe's room a few days back, some great racing then 👍

im just wondering does anyone here wanna join a race series....its super gt races every saturday at 5pm uk time...the winner of the series gets a ford gt40 and winners of every race can choose a car worth 800k...the prizes may not be all that but please just tag along...

What would be really awesome is if we had some 24hr GTP rooms with different car types and PP that were open most, if not all, of the time. That way no matter when you wanted to race you could just look in the room that has the type of car and/or PP you want and start racing.

This would be good, we would do it as a private room, but the ownership is not locked, it should by rights stay open for a long time. And as a private room we would avoid the GT5 'vandal' drivers that you see in public rooms.

Have a 'sticky thread' in this section of the forum and the current room (or rooms) have their 16 digit code up and a description of what we're racing for the next bunch of races.

That way we know that we can come here and quickly find a big group of GTP racers and we'll get some good clean racing.

I'll be adding you guys.. new to the forum n joined just to find clean racers. Struggle to commit to leagues but would love to jump online n know who i'm racing. Clean n close comes before winning :) Of late, i've really struggled to find good lobbies

Hi, you like driving clean, fair and competitive, then look us up Team M8s and have some great racing!

regards U-VVBM

My apologies for the following frustrated rant from a long time follower, first time poster.

Today, Sunday, I spent my whole night searching for an online lobby to have some nice races. Sadly, after a whole night trying, I had none. Even after asking if they were gentlemen drivers or madmen, always the same outcome. First corner, bang. Second corner, an even harder bang. Third corner, last trailing half a lap :ouch:. I have all the respect for drivers trying to make a move, I’ll give some room, they’ll leave some room but in the sense of “if you cannot make it stick, don’t make the move” kind of mindset. Braking late used to be a skill but all these “kids” online these days (didn’t want to offend anybody with this, but that is the impression I get), they just plainly don’t brake, and guess what, my four wheels are pointing in four different directions, I get a time penalty for causing an accident and they drive away with no issues whatsoever having gained a place! Is it me just getting old(er) perhaps that might be true as my first multicomputer/multiplayer experience was serial cable based?

How do you guys have entertaining night playing online because I can’t seem to make it work? I don’t have any friends that play GT5 so that ultimately leaves me with the crappy online lobby system. “Race for fun” or “Race for real” means the same thing: banging into each other. The rating system with the stars has absolutely no meaning to me: it’s all banging into each other. “Clean”, “Fair” and the likes in the room name don’t mean anything except: banging into each other … *sigh* I just want to race *sniff*

I have already read about some GTP leagues but having to make another account with GTP_MyNick is just too big a hurdle to jump for me (I’m 36ish Aspec – don’t want to do it all over again because I just don't have the time for that with work and other crap).

Seeing forward in your responses as I cannot be the only person in the world that actually want to race instead of playing destruction derby (ooh, that brings back memories, doesn’t it).

And again, my apologies for the rant (I do feel better now:tup:), if anybody is offended in any way by this post; that was not my intent.

whenever i play GT5, i always host a lobby for the same type of clean racing descussed in this thread, my lobby is usually pretty empty because i hold "drivers" accountable for their actions, add me, my PSN is SteelyDave06; and lets get together and have some good CLEAN racing fun (strick rules , Sport tires, heavy damage, no aids help to keep the gremlins out of the lobby, and VERY little tolerance for unsportsmanlike driving ensure they stay out) ill be on tonight! all DRIVERS are welcome! no need to join a team, or drive stock cars, i allow fellow drivers to vote track, laps, performance points, and I encourage changing cars and performance points class regularly! (no 500pp over and over and over again all night long in MY lobby!)

Happy Racing,
Dave
