I pull out the local supermarket and just as I do
An SUV appears.
It uses smash.
It is very effective.

Hit him at about 20km/h but his car just needs a new front left quarter panel, bumper and left headlight. and there is not that much damage really on his.

My car new bumper, wheel well arches, wheel arches, bonnet, left headlight, condenser, maybe radiator, A/C needs recharging, front cross member needs replacing.

Not only do the civics have soft paint they are soft them selfs, the smallest of hits causes big damage.

Wow, that is very unfortunate. Is this guys insurance covering your repair costs?

It was my fault, were both insured.

I have to see how much it will cost me.
As i have a 65% no claim bonus.

I rear-ended a camry at about a half a mile per hour once. Nothing at all happened to my truck, but a softball sized dent appeared in the Camry's bumper. Cost me $150.

Yeah, small Japanese cars aren't exactly durable.

No modern car can take damage like old ones. This can be good or bad depending on the severity of the accident. Small fender benders it's no big deal, but a full on crash gets the impact transferred directly to you in an older vehicle, which could potentially throw you out the window.

That's because they're designed to take the damage rather than the energy going into your spine and landing you in a wheel chair...

I'd rather have to replace 500-1000 dollars worth of parts in the event of a crash rather than have more severe injuries.

I hate it  The design of modern cars makes me want to puke all over.

If you read the rest of my post, I made mention of this.

At least, i am guessing it is $8,000.

Bonnet, bumper, left headlight, front grille, condenser, radiator, A/C recharge, wheel arch trims, inner wheel arch lining, front support bar

Building on the crash test iihs has a bumper tests which had all to do with this thread right now. Although not quite to the speed you mentioned.

Plus paint and labor @ around $100/hr. It all adds up quick.

Yeah, I love Serenity, my Civic, but she doesn't take a hit well. I got rear-ended by an asshat in a Blazer a few weeks ago. His paint was scuffed, but I needed a new rear bumper. And I ended up taking the insurance hit, because new driver.

People wonder why I hate Ohio drivers so much....

Noobs. Toytas FTW. My father crashed into a goat, into a field and into a KIA. Only damage a few scratches and a dislodged bliker, not to mention his company truck (Hilux).

That's bad luck @Grayfox slow and stupid crashes are the most expensive. Best of luck man. Hondas are quite fragile. My brother's girlfriend torn her gate with a Civic and that cost her 2 new doors

$8000????!!!! You can nearly buy a complete Civic Type R on a 2007 plate in the UK for that!!!

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifi...gt-------------2007/2029003?isexperiment=true

It is mainly this stupid country.

The left headlight will cost $900.
I can get the same part delivered from the UK for $260

If he ran into you, it would have been his fault regardless of you new you are as a driver or does Ohio have some stupid rule when it comes to insurance.

Hondas are weird little cars in that sense. They're legendary for taking years upon years of wear and tear in stride, but one accident is a disaster. From what I understand, their reliability doesn't translate to racing quite so well, either.

All cars are like that these days since they use more plastic to keep weight down.

In the past everything on the outside was metal.

Seems to be a distinct lack of understanding about crumple zones these days. Cars are designed to take the damage, absorbing the KE and minimising the shock force. The car works as designed. Grayfox hasn't even complained of whiplash yet.

Sorry to hear about the cost, just check and double check everything is done properly. Headlight seals are good, bonnet panel falls in line and paint is without defect.

That's very true, manufacturers completely changed how they made cars to focus totally on passenger safety. A good example that comes to mind is the previous generation Renault Megane when Top Gear tested it. This describes perfectly about the passenger cell and demonstrates just how far things have progressed. Now bare in mind that this clip (and of course the car) is from 2003 and you can imagine just how much more we have progressed since then!

Similar experience with an accident in my Dad's Touareg a few months ago. We were in a 5 car pileup at around 65km/h, hit the back of a taxi and were hit from behind by an SUV at 50-60km/h. Lots of damage to the front of the car, front frame was bent in and was inch away from hitting the radiator.

Was close to 20k to repair (parts are mental), and the car would have probably been written off had we been going fast enough to set the airbags off.

Was a ton of money to repair, but everyone walked away from the accident with zero injuries, neither myself nor my dad (who has back and neck issues) had whiplash or any ill effects from what was a pretty forceful crash.

The engineering in newer cars for safety is unbelievable.

Well at least someone took responsibility someone decided to hit my car and take off.
Where I was parked (Only parked there cause someone else took the spot I usually park in)

Damage

Current Fix (car just has liability as I know I am a good safe driver and didnt need anything else, someone made the choice for me) Waiting because of money and it will all be out of pocket.

Wtf that doesn't look like car damage it looks more like someone kicked the 🤬 out of your car!

That's too bad.. hopefully you strike lucky and get a panel of the same colour 👍
