man circuit city has a 7:1 1000 watt Onkyo system for under 500$..now im no expert but i have one and onkyo systems are awesome at that price range...great sound and i love to crank them up while watching an HD movie..best 500$ surround out ...IMO

The Onkyo TSXR605 is a good all round buy at the moment at doesn't break the bank.

To Nox's orignal question.. If it were £500 then I'd say basic Yamaha Home Cinema Amp, at about £200 and KEF KHT1005's (the range has just been updated so deals on the £300 version would be available)... not sure how much the difference in price between UK and US is.

The 605 clocks in at $400USD leaving him only $100 to buy 6 speakers and a sub.

I would have to drive to his house and severely hurt him if he hooked up (on average) a $40 sub and $10 speakers to a 605.

LOL yeah sorry, I changed the subject there without realising it! I mentioned the shonkyo in response to the previous post, then made a seperate suggestion.

I can't believe the 605 is only $400, it's £400(SRP) here, which is like $800!

Ok guys. By end of this month or start of next will be a GO for me with 5.1 setup. My home today is getting HD programing from a satellite provider. So now I have another reason to get a new sound system.

So for this and next month. What are the best Recommendations? And I am willing to pay 450 UDS THE most. Stores closest to me are Circuit City and Best Buy.

I think that for your want/need, I'll stick with my previous suggestion.

Bonus - it's dropped $20 since then. :)

Yeah, I'm thinking of getting that one as well.

Quick question.
Since my TV now has Satellite HD TV and PS3. And Both are plugged it with a HDMI cable to the TV, and my TV only has two HDMI ports.

The system you are talking about has Highlights: 3 HDMI in, 1 HDMI out, 1 Coax and 2 Optical audio inputs

So how Do I set it up exactly? The way so HD TV and PS3 will work both in 5.1 with a HDMI.
Do I plug the Satellite and PS3 with HDMI cables to the Speaker BOX, and then from speaker box to the TV? Is that the way to do it?

It should be exactly that. Then when you want to switch between the Sat and PS3, all you'll need to do is change the input (from HDMI1 to HDMI2, maybe?) on the receiver while the TV input will stay the same.

At least that's how it should work.

If you need another HDMI cable, I highly recommend one from monoprice. Looks like within the last few months since I've purchased mine they've added a ton more options so you have plenty to choose from.

OK now I got it 👍
It should be really simple to install. And I check for Specs and I do need a HDMI cable since it won't come in the package, thanks for the link as well. 👍

Usually the cables for the 2 back speakers are long? I think I would need to buy some extra wires for that if I need to. And as well at least two stand for the back speakers. the 2 front speakers can sit on the DVD tower stands :)

Man I can't wait.

Give this a read before you decide officially. Most notably this:
When compared to the paltry jack packs of other HTIBs in this range, the HT-SR800's connectivity options are excellent: you get four AV (including the front panel's set), three component, and two HDMI inputs. But there is a catch: the HDMI jacks are video pass-through only--they support as high as 1080p resolution, but they won't carry the audio signals from your disc player, game system, or set-top box. Annoyingly, that means you'll need to connect a dedicated audio feed as well; stereo RCA or (for surround) optical or coaxial digital or analog multichannel. The latter option--running six or eight cables to the Onkyo's 7.1-channel analog inputs--is your only option for getting the best sound from HD DVD or Blu-ray players.
Not cool.

Good thread, and perfect for a few questions I'm going to ask.

I have the following setup:

42" LG Plasma TV
Sky Box - Scart
PS3 (Will be here soon..) HDMI
360- Not an Elite so will be using component output
Possibly another Blu Ray player with 1080p upscaling.

I need a reciever that can handle the above inputs and will also be able to output all video through one cable to my TV. Obviously I want room for expansion aswell and preferably I would like it to be able to handle audio through HDMI aswell (I know some Onkyo models are not compatible with this feature). I will probably be using it with two floor standing BOSE speakers & sub. I don't really have room for five speakers and do not want to have to be running cables.

I'm flexible on cost but I don't want to have to sell my Mum to buy it.

If it was for me, I'd go for the Onkyo TX-SR705 to get support for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. Since you aren't overly interested in surround sound, I still wouldn't back myself into a corner too much, so I would suggest the [broken record]SR605[/broken record] :P

Thanks, I'll look into that. The Sr605 looks like the perfect options at a reasonable price aswell. 👍

Less then a week to get that Sony system for 400 dollars, check it out at best buy yesterday, and they have it in stock. Also the guy show me some demos of some systems. The bose sounds sooo heavenly, but it was 1,700 dollars +
The sony had good sound too, I can't wait.

By the way, any recommended Stands for two front speakers?

Uhh the 605 is perfectly capable of handling Dolby TrueHD and GTS-HD Master Audio....

...which is part of the reason why its such a bargain. Its also worth looking at the new 606, which adds more to the 605 package (in terms of audio quality and features) at the exact same price.

So it does. That'll teach me to trust amazon's specs. :dunce:

Lose an optical and component input and gain 2 HDMI's? Good deal.

Listen to Scaff, Mark. He knows what he talking about. Unlike myself who just pulls crap out of the air.

OK guys, all Is set up.
I went with Sony Bravia KS-2000 as TB stated its the best for its price. And It is. Sounds great. easy setup, Just had some issues with AUTO speaker Distance set up which is useless and stupid idea that you have to plug in a small mic, place it on your position that you watch TV (mic comes in the box) and once I did it, Speaker quality was not that good. SO just reseting system made it sounds oh so heavenly.

Thanks everyone for help
Especially TB, thanks a lot. 👍👍

Hey guys
Well I have a problem with my CENTER speaker. Sound like crap, High and LOW pitch sounds are always on when watching movie or plaing a game only through the center speaker.
At first I thought it's just the settings I have but I try every possible setting

It's too late to return since its been more then a month.. I need to find my Manual to see if there is a 6 month warranty or anything like that from SONY..

I change the speakers around. So this time my center plug was connected to the right sperker, and center speaker to right plug.. seems that CENTER speaker is F-UP. Anyone know's where I can get Center Speaker Replacement ? For the model that I bought? Sony Bravia STR KS-2000

So I went to the BestBuy website. They do sell Center Speakers. One from SONY is 99 buks!!! ugh.. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8289121&type=product&id=1172277277875
You guys think I should get this one as the replacement?
Or you suggest other bit cheaper center speakers that will work well with my setup?

The warranty should be longer than the time you had the system. I'd contact Sony directly and politely ask them what to do. They'll probably send you a replacement speaker.

If I'm not mistaken, all your speakers are the same model. If so, you shouldn't just go and buy a different model, since that'll likely screw up the tonal balance of your surround setup.

First my bro told me to call SONY. But I show him the 100 dollar one, so I just grab 100 bucks and grabbed the speaker from best buy just now, hook it up etc....

WOW It works SO MUCH better. So clean, clear, crisp and Lauder then the older speaker.

You guys were right, buy every thing separate rather then all in one box ;) But its still bit expensive for me right now.
I also talk with the guy at bestbuy, he told me the same LOL, and show me some great sounding systems.. I remeber one was over 1.5k per speaker.. but i almost soil myself when he turn up Rolling Stones!

Sorry to hear about your speaker troubles, Nox. Especially since I was the one who suggested it. :guilty: Of course, I also suggested buying everything separate, but you're coming around to that now. :sly:

I've had that same $100 center channel for over a year now and so far have no complaints. I bought it when I went from 5.1 to 6.1 so my old center went to the rear center. It made an incredible difference with my system, as well.

I hope you have better luck with this one. 👍

Yeah so far it sounds good. I just watch a blu-ray movie and sound is so crispy clear. And I can hear everyone much Lauder even before the speaker got screw up.

It's not you're fault man, the speaker was just faulty, it fell the other day ;) I think that's the cause. 100 buks worth well spend.
Thanks for all the help :)

Sorry for Double post.. (Just want it to jump for attention ;))

System runs great so far.

BUT it's missing something.. a giant dual shock!
So how about BUTTKICKER GAMER?
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000AOTLP6/?tag=gtplanet-20

You guys know my 5.1 system, how can I set up buttkicker to work on the PS3? Everything I have is connected with HDMI cables. (satellite box, PS3, Surround system) Is it possible?
I was looking for this months ago, but no luck, as well I was googling it just for about an hour and still somehow I cant find the answer.
