I am turning 16 in August, and am gonna be getting a car within a year from now, and i don't have to buy it, my parents are. and i have it down between 2, which i can get. except the supra may be higher in price. tell me what you think, and if you have a specific year you like tell me. also, if you have an idea about price, it would also be appreciated. thanks.

don't get either a 16 year old shouldn't have a car with all that power. Plus the insurence would kill you.

everytime some kid comes on here asking about which first car to get, i try and stray them away from the types of cars you mentioned.

prices are probably $15k +, id guess a bit more for the supra.

What a spoiled Brat!! It almost seems as if you are bragging. I wish i had a car! Not to mention a Supra

why ask our opinion? if you made the decision to narrow it down to those two, why cant you decide? You should buy the car YOU like. I also can think of a million other cars you should consider. Those including the type I and others think you should buy, less powerful, and even cars in the same league.

In point of fact both of the cars you picked are somewhat rare in the U.S. There are less than 12,000 Supras (MK4) in the country. The 3000GT is a great car, but is very technologically complex.
There are so many other good choices. Plus, your parents are likely not stupid enough (I hope) to put you on the street in a high horsepower monster.
The new Celica is sporty, a great handler, and not any more expensive than your other choices. There is also the Olds Alero two-door, the Mitsu Eclipse, The V-6 Mustang, et al. And NEW is way cooler than buying somebody's problems. Trust me, I know from entirely too much experience.
Some of us were lucky to survive our teen years in big HP cars, myself included. I also think your parents should require you to pay for your own car insurance as a measure to make you understand some of the responsibility that goes with driving.
Good Luck, no matter how it comes out.

i have to agree with Gil on that one.

if you want something that is fast, get your parents to buy you a Kart and go racing.

I think its better to get something small and low in power first.
When you have enough experience, then upgrade.
It'll save you a lot is you happen to get into nasty situations.

And yeah, get a kart if you want to go fast.

If you really want big horsepower buy a truck. Ton of power but keeps you at a sane speed and its a lot cheaper then a car.

i would have to agree on eveything said about not getting such a high powered car when your so young, but if you have set your heart on getting one of them then i would go for the 3000 GT because it has four wheel drive so it may be a bit more forgiving to such a young driver

Not all 3000gts are awd. Only the VR4 trim. The base and SL trims have front wheel drive. HP on the base is 161, on the SL its 218. Not very much for a car that weighs 3300 lbs.

yeh true but what ever model he gets will be more forgiving than a toyota supra. anyone ever driven a 3000GT? i drove a VR4 model once and it felt like a pregnant whale but was pretty quick

whoa ppl don't get so damn mad! i was just wondering if u ppl had any reason why one is better than the other! calm down!

edit>> and anyway, i was just wondering what everyone thought is more fun, etc. i said opinion!

edit x2>> i shouldn't have asked, nm ppl. i am probably going w/ the 3000GT. i am not gonna sit here and listen to all of this crap from ppl.

I dont really think anyone replied with a bad tone, except for hanker. We are just trying to give you advice that has to do with you buying a car. If you only asked for opinion on the cars, too bad, some people had advice to give you on another subject. Listen to it, or how it looks now, dont listen to it.

I would think the supra would be a more fun car.

about edit #2. Like I said before, i dont think anyone gave you crap. We just are trying to help you. Its fine if you ignore what we say and get the "flashy fast car" you want. Just pretend that you have the experience or skill to drive one. Besides, its easier to give into that temptation. You want to be a cool kid at your highschool, I know. Just please dont drive like a jerk. With a vr4 you will probably be fine as long as you dont.

have you thought about insurence? I pay like 100 bucks a month on a Blazer.Your looking at 200-400 on those cars.

yea, i have to pay the insurance, but thats it. and btw, i don't like trucks.

edit>> WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA! I DON'T GIVE A GOD DAMN ABOUT POPULARITY AT MY HIGH SCHOOL. THE ONLY WAY TO BE POPULAR AT MY SCHOOL IS IF YOU COMMITT A FELONY OR GET STONED. AND I LOVE 3000GT'S. AND ALSO, WHAT CAR I GET IS NOT GONNA AFFECT HOW I DRIVE. I WILL HAVE MY DAD TEACHING ME ANYTHING I NEED TO KNOW. AND WHAT KIND OF "EXPIERIENCE AND SKILL" DO YOU NEED MORE FOR A 3000GT THAN OTHER CARS? IT IS A NORMAL CAR.

I would recommend a nice sensible front drive mid sized sedan. You're 16. You're going to hit things and do stupid stuff on the road. Everyone does. I would recommend against buying anything powerful, or that you're going to get upset about if you ding it.

Dude,
We aren't about tryin' to dis you.
In my line of work, I have learned that it doesn't take a whole lot of power to get you into a tight situation that your body will pay for.
Just offering up advice on keeping you alive. Sorry if that offends you.
If you want to present with all this attitude, do what you want. But, PLEASE fill out the donor card on the back of your license.
I still really hope that your parents nix the idea of a High HP ride for you as your first car.
I don't think you need to be stuck with a 1964 Nova Station-Wagon. But a VR-4 is a lot of car, with a great deal of power.
I have a friend who has a Stealth, which is the Dodge version of the GTO. She let me drive it and I know it's a powerhouse.
She's driven it over 140 mph. Your contention that the GTO is a "normal" car won't wash with me.
My dad gave me a "hot" car at 16, and I had access to two others. There are some things that have happened that make me glad to still be here to type this.
I just figure that I've used up everybody's[b/] fair share of teen "dumb luck".

omg, sorry to be rude, but i can handle a 3000GT. i am not going to do stupid things on the road, i am no show off. and i am not getting the cars you named, i posted this because these are the ones i like. now plz, stop recommending things to me about me being inexperienced, or the car being too powerful. i can't stand being told what i SHOULD do. i was just asking the question "what do you like better, 3000GT or Supra"
