I played GT5 again after 3 months of playing GT6, and...

Well, first of all I hope this is the correct board. I would like to tell impressions and compare both games physics.

GT5 feels... dont know... unevolved? primitive? arcadeish?

I just felt... disappointed to play it again. It's a strange feeling. After playing it for so many time, and then getting used to the new GT6 physics, I felt GT6 is a massive step forwards in realism, gameplay and physics in general.

In GT5 the driving feels... bland, boring, and too similar for each car. On the other hand in GT6 the car seems to feel more... alive? It feels more different too depending on what you drive.

Please share your thoughts about the differences in both games. :D

I totally agree. Now, driving in GT5 is like driving a soap , you don't feel the grip of the car. I also agree with you when you point the differences between the variety of cars in GT6. Now, I do feel the differences between FF cars. In GT5 they were all the same.

I tried my Toyota 86 in GT5 and GT6.
Physics in GT5 feel more fun to me. Car was more tailhappy, it felt like MR cars in GT6, but it was easier to controll the slide. In GT6 it is very grippy and predictable car, in GT5 it can surprise you with little burnout. Also tyres have less grip in GT5, SH in GT6 have little more grip than SS in GT5.

As for the graphic, you saw my thread ;)

You must be kidding... In GT6 cars in general steer/oversteer far more

The 86 broke contact too easily on gt5 compared to the real tyres. I've driven the 86 on stock tyres in real life and it felt grippier than GT5. GT6 stock feels closer to real stock. In GT5 it had CS tyres. What tyres are stock in GT6?

I tried only this Toyota with custom suspension setup, so different cars can behave differently, like you said. And just few seconds ago, F40, in GT5 it feels very similar to GT6, but it has that "floatty" GT5 feel, and you can't feel body roll as much as in GT6.

I agree, what I hate so much about GT5 is that the floaty feeling, it feels like the car is hovering. Now in GT6 I could feel the tire responsiveness thus feels like driving a real car.

I have to say that the MX5 in GT6 feels very realistic compared to GT5, the way the car sits on the rear wheel and then wiggles into a slide is uncannily perfect.

In GT5 the car was fun but didn't have the same accuracy.

If I am honest after I played GT Academy 2013 I did realise that GT5 wasn't that great. I didn't play it as much as I used to after, but then again I do have to thank the game because I met most of my friends on GT5. So for the time it was good, but GT6 is definitely better in my opinion.

That's interesting. I did a back to back comparison with the F40 in GT6 and GT5 and the 5 version felt just awful and was about a second a lap slower stock round Deep Forest Raceway. Admittedly that was GT6 v1.02 but I don't think things have really changed since then anyway.

I have tuned suspension in F40 in both games, so my thoughts may be biased by that fact. But general feeling of the car seems to be similar in both games. Got to try it stock.

Try them both stock with stock tyres (S1s I think) - huge difference. GT5 feels wooden, unresponsive and has poor traction even at low exit speeds. GT6 is almost the polar opposite, and just as a massively powered mid-engined car should feel. I've not driven an F40 of course but I imagine it would be much more like the GT6 attempt.

When I drive the Pors... I mean the RUFs... I always think of Clarkson saying what he hates most about the 911; "it's the whole arse-enginedness of the thing!".

I can't remember which of his many DVDs it's in but he goes on to complain that the car will feel just right in a corner then the back will unaccountably decide to overtake.

That's GT6 all over :D

GT6 may be intended to be more realistic but the Toyota 86 is definitely more fun to drive in GT5. It's a fun car in real life so kind of ironic that it feels a bit stale in a game which supposedly has improved realism. I haven't touched this game for some weeks but this is how I felt comparing the two games in early January.

Definitely. I used to drift with this Toyota. In GT6 it is hard to break the traction of this car and go sideways. In GT6 i can drift it easily. Also, i found out that GT5 has very nice feature called "Tire load indicator" which shows realtime data on how springs and dampers work!!!!! Great telemetry tool, but it got cut out of GT6 ;( For over 3 years i had no idea GT5 has tool like this...

When GT6 first came out I kept up with the seasonals for awhile, but for me, GT6 is a much better game. It's been over a month since I fired up GT5 now.

I actually just went back to GT5 after playing GT6 since it came out and I actually had fun. theres a ton of events I haven't completed.

Since I'm about the only fool still on GT5, I can only speculate what the new game is like until I get it.

GT5's cars, especially with a DS3, feel like they have a certain disconnect to them after a certain point, they do feel like they have weight to them but still..... I hope GT6 has improved upon this.

Hmm I simply can't do this. Even if I miss some stuff from GT5 such as the course maker, top gear test track and shuffle races I simply can't get back to it because gt6 is so much better in some areas. Physics, menus, customization are miles ahead.

Plus, Ascari and Bathurst.

I havent came back to gt5. I was thinking of, but i desisted. I have this flash that the cars felt all heavy, unresponsive. Understeering all the way. I remember not being able to get a lot of "suspension oversteer", but always power-oversteer.
Besides, i love to drive a stock car, with those soft prings, bouncing around.

Interesting topic. I'm getting a little tired of what's available to do in GT6 now and was thinking of going back to 5 until more content is available. I feel like the physics in 6 are, for the most part, much more realistic than 5 so i was a little worried it'd feel poor in comparison. It is the previous instalment after all. From what people here are saying here i think i'll just stick with 6 and wait.

@sparkytooth Weight and the way it moves around whilst braking and cornering is one of the things i think has improved in GT6.

I played GT6 again after 1 week of not playing GT6, and... I just felt... disappointed to play it again. It's a strange feeling.

While it's (apparently) not the popular opinion, I prefer the physics of GT5. Not that I have tons of track time under my belt, but it seems far too easy to break loose the back-end under heavy braking, and I've never experienced rollover as frequently as I have in GT6 in any prior iteration of the game.

The "arcadey" feel of previous games doesn't just happen with GT6 to 5. I once made a huge jump from GT6 to GT4 and I adapted quite quickly. When I returned to GT6 I spent at least half a day readjusting because there is so much oversteer in comparison and countersteering in GT4 almost feels like 4WD. I even did a jump from 5 to 3 while I still had my GT3 disk lying around and that didn't go so well when I returned either  .

Keep in mind though that like with most things PD it's two steps forward and one step back. : ) You always get some new bad with the good. Not saying this is a bad or good thing (somehow?).
For a bad thing though, rollovers are at least fun way to go! :embarrassed:
