I forgot to check my news feeds the other day, some of you would’ve read this on slashdot already but it’s just so fun watching random people for no reason. Haven't got a clue what I'm talking about? You can use google to find random web cams and play around with them.

Take a look here for background information on it. To find random unsecured cameras, try the following strings in Google.

I’ve found a Laundromat, random games room, this one, and an electronics store? (complete with TV’s in the background). I’ve got nothing better to do so I’m just watching the games room one.

Enjoy!

Wow, I'm really controlling these cameras?

I think I just killed one in Okinawa... it wouldn't stop spinning.

Oooh, some sort of Japanese pre-school center. Someone dropped their shoe. It took over two minutes for someone to realize to pick it up.

Oooh, some sort of highway reststop in Japan. (with some beautiful mountains in the background)

Oooh, a bunch of Japanese in a work room.

Oooh, a Japanese flower shop.

Stinky Chicken
I'm just wondering who got the idea to type things like inurl:"axis-cgi/mjpg" into Google in the first place.
It's called Google hackers .

Anyway, someone made a nice site based on the first 500 cameras from a search on google and has listed them via country using their IP's. Spiffy.

via.

I would imagine someone that has the same software that generates the address using one of those in the Google search list. Then they searched Google for it and found a bunch of other people using the same software they are (packaged with the camera I bet). Then asked around and found the addresses for a smattering of other brands of cameras and their software packages. Really quite simple actually.

Too bad this one is uselessly out of focus. An airplane hangar could be cool.

The site with all the cameras is really cool. I was thinking of writing that up myself.

whoah, this is effing COOL maaan. I spent a good 15 minutes using the camera to follow some dude around an electronics store. That was kinda funny.

Are the files you have to open to view the webcams safe?

Yes, but Firefox handles it better than IE.

IE babbles on about the ActiveX files being 'unsafe' and whatnot. Firefox just loads them without fuss.
