WTF?
Well, a thing I haven't seen on games lately is the option to choose the engine or the gearbox type and all that stuff. The last one to do so, I think, was the NFS: Porsche unleashed. I mean, even if you don't have an h shifter, the performance of golf with a manual gearbox and one with the dsg one should be separable. And, what if I want to try out a 1.4l golf I actually own? Or a r32? Or a Mercedes-Benz 350 ? Or a bmw 330i ? The difference should not only be changed in the performance of the cars, but also in the price of them, that would really be interesting.

I apologize for my bad english, I just had an "epiphany" about this and it is 01:00 am

Tha would be good but it would be incredibly difficult to model every single car on a model range.
for example, a 318i bmw is different than the 335i not just on performance, but in weight, two completely different engine types, phisical appearance, rims, tyres, different suspension, different brakes, different body color, different optional, different everything. the only thing that remains the same is the bodywork, and some interior equipment. and most of all, i know that if im playing gt5, i wont want to own a 318i, i will go straight to the m3, or 335i.

Well, the weight would be easy to modify, as well as the brakes, but the interior and the rims would be a pain in the 4**.
On the other hand, you could divide cars not only by performance points, but also by their engines, you could have a choice between the really cheap 3 series or a really well equipped golf.

I'd rather have GT5 one month earlier than have PD working on different models of similar cars ;) The cars that make it into the game I'd rather just be the fastest in that particular range.

I'm not sure how complicated the GT5 physics are, but with weight you also have to change the centre of gravity and moments of inertia.

It shouldn't take that long to model different versions of a car, since the real work is in creating a base car and doing the 3D modeling. For instance, all the Skyline variants, the BMWs, the Supras in the previous Gran Turismos probably took little time to create. However, this can't be taken too far in modeling every variant, or GT5 would have 10,000 cars and come out sometime in 2012. ;)

By the way, you foreigners don't need to apologize for your english. I've been able to understand everyone.

I don't usually race stock cars, but when I do, I enjoy testing out the variants to see if one has a slight performance edge in some area to build on with upgrades and tuning. And heck, sometimes I just want to collect. Frankly, I love having a wealth of Skylines, or any car to choose from. It would be good for PD to give us a few different examples of most cars, as they have previously with some, and it does give us a larger car count, and a bit more individuality for online races.

I hope they spend some time doing this on other cars instead making 30+ Skylines like they did in GT4.

I want PD to put a 190e cosworth, 190e evo 1, and evo 2. but I know if they're gonna put a 190e it will be the evo 2. I can understand why they would keep it simple. I mean compare those 3 cars, theyre are quite different. Really most other cars that dont differ for example a mercedes c180 and a c200 all they are doing is taking up space

I don't. Should I open a new thread about it?

I am in the middle, sure it would be great to see range models, but at same time I wont care...
I'll start a third thread about it, next to my I hope 1993 300E 3.2 will make it in Thread and my I don't want to see Jay Leno Tank car thread.
