Rear axle alone cost the most, around 700 dollars.

Here's the complete version of the video with 30 seconds prior to the accident. Start watching around 30 seconds and you can see me driving on the right side.

And now it is absolutely clear that she did not even attempt to brake for the Stop sign, as it was rather unclear in the original upload of the accident.

I'm driving my Nissan heading north. I had the right of way. The woman in the Mercedes SUV ran the stop sign and t-boned me. I was driving north through here:

This car is 14 years old (1997 model) and had 45,600 miles on the odometer. This is it's first accident. The car was mechanically perfect, impeccable, flawless, etc. Mileage:

Here are pictures of my car! And the woman!

In the middle, the woman who crashed into me. On the right, her husband who was convicted by the state!

Behind the Jetta is her husband's BMW X5.

This is her running away from the accident. She is driving west.

Pare = Stop

Poor little Japanese Nissan always loses to a woman talking on her cellphone while driving an SUV!

Here you go

That's a nasty hit man, good thing you're ok.
I'm sure they'll find her through the plates noted down, and make her pay

Sorry to hear man, Did you get the licenseplate of the woman??

To embedd the video, just use the part 9eHnJ98WEk8. Like this :

A taxi driver who can be seen in the video turning around and leaving chased her down and brought her back. She then ran away again after the police arrived. We have her license plate, home adress, work info, everything. Her husband (who arrived in a brand new BMW X5) was convicted by the state for 5 years. We know everything about them.

The damage actually doesn't look that bad considering what happened. It is fixable, but considering the age of the car it'll probably be totaled by the insurance company. (or however it works there)

Did she tell you why she drove off? I mean, it's kind of dumb to drive off after hitting someone...

Woah, glad you're okay, but that woman must have been out of her mind! Lucky the taxi driver was there!

If someone does this over here, it's taken very seriously and the penalty for it is pretty big! This is why dash-cams come in useful:

Mechanics are telling us the chassis is bent. I thought the same, but when the car hit the curb it destroyed the rear axle, suspension, transmission. And the chassis seems to have suffered.

Nope, we were there with the police 4 hours and not once did she LOOK at me. No sorry, nothing.

Figures a bad driver is in a SUV. They must think that it's safer to drive a big car, so knowing that they're a bad driver, they want others to get hurt and not them.

Sheesh.

That person is a retard they waited for so long before deciding to drive away. They obviously thought it out and decided it was a good idea to book it instead of being a good person and excepting what happened.

Woman driver (sorry ladies) + SUV + Cell Phone = Trouble.

People that drive while talking on their phones drive me nuts. I can't wait until they outlaw it entirely.

That's unlucky.

Here in NZ we have that law. No using hand held devices when operating a vehicle. You can use it when traffic has stopped due to an accident or road blockage.

In the police report, she wrote that she fled the scene of the accident because I was too aggressive. She also claimed that her husband was right behind her when the accident happened, which also isn't true.

I knew cellphones + cars was not a good combination, but unfortunately I fell victim to such ignorance and blatant disregard of the law.

There's a law for that here aswell. It's just that alot of people don't seem to care.

We have decided to let the car go... We'll ask the insurance tommorow if they can pay us the value of the car instead of trying to repair it (repairs already knock at the car's value).

Doing this, we'll get significantly more money than fixing it and selling it afterwards.

So what we're looking at right now is a 1998 BMW 523i (E39). Or a brand new Versa.

Sad to hear. The car doesn't look too bad off, but at its age, it's a sure insurance write-off.

Should get the woman to stump up the extra cost to get yourself a newer car. You should be able to sue for that much. :D

What i'm most surprised about is the fact that so many people kept driving past!

Fail for humanity.

Why did the husband get 5 years? when the female caused the issue.

And did the police look at the video and state that her story does not match up with what happened?

I would sue for the loss of my car if that happened to me.

That woman deserves everything she gets.... and make sure she gets done for everything.

Driving without due care and attention.
Running a Stop Sign.
Hitting you.
Running from the scene twice!
Lying to the Police.

^ So what's going to happen to the driver? She'll probably just leave with a fine
Absolutely nothing... sadly...

We would sue if the legal system was halfway decent. The situation in this country is terrible, and we don't have the money needed to win a case we would like to win honestly. Our only solution is to get a new car and move on...

What the security team didn't give me footage of was the 5 or so people who came out to help me. One of them was the owner of the house on the left corner of the video.

Also, we checked how much it would cost to paint the front bumper at Nissan and they charge 261 dollars at current exchange rates. So if the bumper costs that much, imagine the mechanical parts of the car in need of repair...

In the police report, she wrote that she fled the scene of the accident because I was too aggressive.

Did she also say you charged after her with a wrench like a mad man? If not, that's not a solid reason for driving off after nailing another car...

Man that's awful. It's good your ok.

Had this happen to me once. Was pulling in my driveway and i got rear ended by a lady in a SUV.She ran,but luckily i had just got off work and had a pen in my pocket.

Damn, people can reach levels of assholeness (is there a word for that?) that still surprise me.

Get your neck and back checked out ASAP. My old nissan got struck in the rear quarter panel and was totalled last January. A week later I got incredible neck and upper back pain. 10 months later and I still feel like crap, can't work out, have to avoid using computer for more than a few minutes every hour, I am on medical leave from my job.

I somehow didn't write down her plate but I had 10 people tell me her plate and my memory recall it too. So that was good.

Indeed... it's amazing that she was so careless to run away and then accuse me of being aggressive.

Maybe, it's been two weeks and I haven't felt any pain or soreness anywhere except the first two days of a little whiplash.

Glad you weren't hurt too much, unbelievable...
Nice to see how many people ran after her and looked after the plate. 👍

That's just plain awesome!
