It's been a while since I've been here. So I'll give the gist of it all.

December 24, 2012 I ended the life of my 97 C5. Wet outside, dropped my cigarette. Went down to grab it and romped down on the accelerator. Spun all sorts of crazily into a mailbox, fire hydrant, and finally the telephone pole.

Engine was still running so I limped it back home. (I had just left my neighborhood.) I walked back to the scene and waited for authorities to show up and was eventually charged with a DUI less safe, (Not over legal limit, but having alcohol in my system and striking an object I was screwed.) Leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, and failure to maintain lane.

Never had I been pulled over or been in any trouble before. I had that car for years! All it took was one cigarette and some wet pavement.

Just felt like say hello. Any old planet guys left? Any stories on what's been going on with any of them? MazKid, neon_duke, Doug, and others?

Hopefully this will be a learning lesson for you.

Yeah, really. Haven't driven with a drop of alcohol in my system since. Still smoke though. :/

Yep. Paid 11k for it when I got it. Paid 9K to repair it after wreck 1. After wreck 2 I sold it as is for $4500.

Irresponsible people shouldn't take drugs. At least you didn't wreck any people.

I'm not irresponsible. It was a simple case of bad luck. Especially for the car! :)

Stop smoking :P

Better yet, why was your foot on the gas pedal anyway? You dropped it in the car while moving I assume? If so, stop smoking. Or smoke less clumsily :P

This is what is meant by "Drinking Impairs Judgement". For the want of a fallen cigarette...well, at least you're okay.

I love how cops tack on additional "well, duh" tickets for no reason, when it comes to accidents.

Absolutely. Most drugs are fine in moderation if taken by responsible people. (Unless we're talking about pure poison like desomorphine of course.)

So if my mom were to go on her lunch break at work and she decided she wanted to do a line of cocaine, you don't think anybody would think twice?

Good luck doing drugs and not getting hooked on them. My dad thought he could do the that when he was younger but now he's slowly dying from it.

Whoopsy. Good to hear you're alright.

neon_duke became Duke, got promoted to Admin, but hasn't been seen for a few years. Doug had a major falling out with Famine and left in a huff, but still pops in now and again. ultrabeat is now Danny but still just as inane. Sage sticks his head through the door occasionally. Max Powers made a thread celebrating the fact he'd been here for 10 years without getting banned and, within a matter of weeks, managed to get himself banned. There's bound to be others I've not mentioned.

At least you didn't end up on railway tracks in a Camaro...

That's exactly what I thought when I saw the thread.

I pulled out of my neighborhood so I was going pretty slow. After the cigarette dropped I didn't want a burn on the floor so I bent down to pick it up. Small car space inside. I just accidentally hit the gas in the process. Going like 10mph and romping the gas on wet pavement had that car sideways before I knew what had happened.

It was lit!

I'm just upset I get tagged with a DUI without blowing over the legal limit, :/ I don't understand the failure to report an accident ticket though. I was at the scene before the cops ever showed up AND my neighbors were already on the phone with police. Why call them? It's all about the money in the end.

So was it an auto? I'm not sure how you could have spun otherwise just by flooring the gas. An auto would have shifted down unsettling the car, that I could see. But if you were driving a manual you were probably in a high gear so flooring the gas wouldn't have had much of an effect, even in the wet. Unless you have a ton of power.

Yes, it was an automatic. I swear it was amazing. My foot was already on the gas and in the process of leaning down I pressed down on the pedal and voom! Before I could even get my head back up I was sliding off of the road.

I think the cigarette and wet pavement were minor factors in the equation. The alcohol, poor judgement and careless driving lead to the accident and I'm just glad the only thing hurt was your car and some (thankfully) stationary objects that stopped your car.

As a fellow smoker, I know what its like to drop a smoke while driving, but next time just pull over to find the fallen smoke...

First, that is clearly irresponsible behavior you used in your example so it really doesn't work well.

Second, not all drugs have addiction issues. Weed and acid are far less addictive than alcohol or tobacco for example. So I'm curious what drugs you're father is dying from.

Wouldn't make any difference here. Going a whole

with a manual, he'd have still been in first anyway.

I dunno, 10mph with an LSx seems more like 2nd or 3rd gear worthy.

That aside, it is hardly the issue here at all when you read the post; excessive distractions and booze don't mix well, period.

I think booz can get your driving worse earlier than for example weed, I never had a problem to drive a car when smoking weed. And when get pulled over here, most of the times the cops tell you to don't drive the car for the next 2 hours. So I'd say, don't drink and drive and watch out with the weed..
