What you guys are not getting is that the cockpit view in this game sucks. Forcing people to use it may weed out some that are not fast enough, sure. But then you also run into a problem of people that are actually fast (like Choate) who can't use the view and would never have the chance to prove themselves.

It would hurt the competition more than it would help it.

I for one never said cockpit view should be mandatory, I said I would prefer that view. I just said whatever the view is it should be the same for everyone. Cockpit view may not be your favorite but IMO it is the most realistic. The overall view may be better from bumper or roof but it has nothing to do with driving in the real world. People should not have an advantage because they choose a different view.

But what if the cockpit view is actually an advantage for some people? It honestly goes both ways, some get an advantage from roof or bumper view, while others get an advantage using cockpit view.

There really is no point in this argument.

If someone uses that view all the time, it could be an advantage against someone who doesn't. Not that hard to understand. With everyone using the view that works for them, nobody has an advantage.

Regarding item 1)

The fastest drivers will always be fast, no matter how you try to restrict them. Their 10th lap will probably be within a few 10ths of the top times posted after thousands of drivers have logged millions of laps. Driving fast is about learning the course. If you aren't showing signs of improvement after every 10 laps, you need to stop driving and start studying other driver's lines.

Regarding item 2)
Who cares. Most of the top drivers will have wheels anyway. If someone puts in the time and practice to posting a top time with a controller, they show dedication and they deserve a shot in the academy.

Regarding item 3)
Again, who cares. Each view has its advantages and disadvantages. Cockpit view is not realistic. Even on a big TV the view is equivalent to riding in the back seat of most cars. Bumper cam is the only view with a realistic rearview mirror. Hood cam is the only view that gives you the proper view of apexes. Chase cam is the only view that shows you what your car's suspension is doing. We can argue all day long about this, but the fact remains, if you are fast, you can be fast in any view.

For one the cockpit view is nothing like real life. The driver in the cockpit view must be a midget that can barely see over the steering wheel.

For 2 I've been playing Gran Turismo since the first Gran Turismo game back in 1998 and I always use the bumper view. GT5 is the first one with the cockpit view and only the premium cars have the "realistic" view.

Just an observation, I have been in many different race cars from many different disciplines some don't have the greatest visibility!

Cockpit may not be super realistic, but from the options available it is the closest.

I challenge you to find me 1 person that says cockpit is an advantage. Therefore it is a valid argument.

I challenge you to drive on the hood of a car or chase it in real life.

I challenge you to drive a 7 minute Nurburgring lap in real life...from any seating position. This game is just that, a game. There is a lot more than camera angles to overcome when you finally step into a real race car.

See here is the reason why there is no need to standardize the view: we were all very close in real cars at Silverstone. The varying views used in GT didn't have much effect to the end point of the whole thing.

Add to that that this is a simulator that will always be hugely lacking in view compared to real life. This and lack of G forces on a sim is why you can't take a great real life driver and put him on GT and expect him to be anywhere near as fast as the top GT drivers in only hours of seat time like we had at silverstone.

There is a certain level of coordination required with your feet that you just don't get from using a joystick. But you don't get it from a DFGT pedal set either. To really be prepared for driving a race car you need to drive with a clutch in real life...and no game will ever be accurate enough for you to learn to drive stick without bucking like a bronco.

So again, the game is moot. It's about the dedication and at the very least learning how to identify braking points, hit apexes and throttle out of corners with precision.

That being said, you should be able to adapt and do those same things from any camera angle then.

True, but it wouldn't change the outcome. The fast drivers might prefer one view over another, but they'll be faster than the people that didn't make it whether you restrict them to a specific view or not. The reason, is dedication.

For us (European) nationals, we had to use bonnet or bumper cam.
Fine as everyone there, and for that matter anyone who is "quick" prefers to use these views.

Not everyone can afford a wheel. Don't price people out of this, I'm surprised to see you put that.

In any case, as stated in another thread, you don't need a wheel to compete but good luck if you get to the finals because you'll need to know how to use one. And you can't just pick it up right away like it's nothing.

I shall put my .02 in on this.

I came up in race cars. From the time I was old enough to drive, I was on track. Mainly Trans-Am cars but some smaller cars, as well as lots of autocross. I have played Gran Turismo since the original.

I am most comfortable with the bumper view. Real race cars do have FAR more visibility than the cockpit view mainly because you can turn your head.

I have recently switched to a wheel, which helped me out a lot. The thing I always found difficult was not being able to feel a car move under me.

So just from the perspective of someone who came the other way first...It is just a game. Let people use what ever view and drive as sloppy as you like. Once they get to the finals, or real cars they will be quickly weeded out. Completely different sensation when physical damage or bodily harm is put in the equation.

Good luck to everyone!

More countries (like Canada) should be included in the competition! That would be my suggestion - I think this may have been mentioned more than once.

Get your Prime Minister to change the laws regarding international competitions.
