If you had $2,000( In your currency) to spend on computers/accessories what you would you spend the money on?

I'd spend my $2,000 on..

  • 12" iBook G4 - $1300.
  • 19" Flat Panel LCD Screen - $700.

After taxes it would be around $2000.

You'd buy a Mac.

With $2000 US.

You'd seriously buy a Mac over what kind of PC you could have for $2000.

You're sick.

I'll tell you in detail what I'd get for $2000 US later, but it wouldn't be a Mac.

Athlon 64 FX-53 (socket 939) 2.4GHz - $800

To me, the monitor makes the computer. It's way more important to have a nice looking monitor than a beasty video card, or in your guys' cases, no monitor. :P

I could have a awesome computer, but a 15" CRT and it'd feel like a crappy computer. Or I could have a nice computer, but not quite as nice, with two 17" 16ms LCDs, 500:1 Contrast ratio, so on so fourth. To me, the one with the nice monitors would feel like a better computer. Mainly because, the only thing I do on the computer isn't games. I spend a lot more time doing things that aren't games, as a matter of fact. I think I can safely say the slower, not quite as fast computer would do the things just as fast, or even if .09ms slower, still not noticebly slower. Not to mention, on games, it wouldn't do all that bad...

I looked through that whole setup, and no X800 pro?!

You complain the fact we don't have monitors, but you get a 9800? :P

To each is his own, I guess.

Would've gotten an X800 Pro but they were all out of stock so I couldn't add them to my card. Heh, didn't feel like just saying the price over here. I'm weird, I guess. If they had been in stock I would have deffinitely put that in my cart though. 👍

Well i already have a good monitor, keyboard, and speaker setup... so i'd just spend most of the money on a kickass CPU and graphics card.

I think Sun meant a whole computer.

If not, count me in on the $800 CPU and $600 video card.

If I would have to spend the money on PC hardware then I'd buy a kick-ass PC.

Leave it in the box.

Sell the brand new PC as fast as possible (perhaps for a nice little profit).

Put the money to some better use (car, social life, etc..)

Let's assume I've got a copy of my OS.

I'd have to go dual with the CPU's. Once you've tried it you'll never go back. AMD to save some money.

No need to get 1Gb of ram.

No need to get the latest most swizneet video card. Dual monitor out with DVI will suffice.

I think I would try to score TWO 18" LCDs which are $620 each on dell.com.

So that's $1240 for the monitors. Prolly $150 for the video card. Leaving $610 for the CPUs, fans, mobo, nic, audio, cdburner, dvdrom, ram, HD...

But I've already got the burner and the dvd. And the nic is dirt cheap or integrated on the mobo - same with audio. I've also already got the ram and HD.

So we're talking $610 for CPU's and fans.

$610 for cpus, mobo, and fans isn't a whole lot. Also, dual cpu setups generally stick to ECC RAM, which I'm sure you don't have. Dual CPU CPUS are expensive, and so are the mobos.

FOr $610 I'd just get a nice mobo, 64 bit CPU, and some extra RAM.

Not necessary to do ECC RAM.

What OS would you use? Windows??? It would still suck.

Dual CPUs makes windows much much better.

are there any dual cpu options available for the Athlon64 or for the P4? As far as I know, it's only available on the Xeon and Opteron chips. Otherwise I would gladly go dual processor on the rig I'm planning on building...that is, if I ever get the amount of money needed to build it. I currently need something like $4500 USD - that includes the costs of everything from the desk to cpu to speaker system and even taxes
