Welcome to the journey into the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series... new and improved with oval AND road races! For those who don't like extremely extensive rules, our rule system should be fit for your liking!

After the exciting and amazing announcement by Kaz Yamauchi a few days ago about Gran Turismo 5 2.0 version, I am extremely enthusiastic about the new NASCAR cars and wanted to create a series to "honor", so to speak, the new DLC cars coming in a week or so! So, officially, since these cars have not been announced, we cannot make the specs, but I assume the weight/HP will be the exact same on every car. A few specs still stand...

  • All cars must be restricted by 10%
  • All cars must be equipped with Racing Hards
  • All cars must be COMPLETELY STOCK (that includes transmission)
  • If one scheme is taken, no one else is allowed that scheme UNLESS the person w/ that scheme drops out

Race Days!

My schedule is pretty elusive and unpredictable, therefore I cannot make a full season schedule like most events. However, I can promise you that every other week or even one week at a time on Fridays at 8:00 P.M. US Eastern Time can be expected. If I am absent further than this, another moderator fit to do my duty can be assigned for the job!

There will be ten races, and since I know your life's schedules can be just as unpredictable as mine, I'll allow four, yes, FOUR!, dropped races! That's a lot of elasticity you wouldn't find anywhere else but in this series!

The tracks for these ten races include the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (Oval), Daytona International Speedway (Oval), Indy Road Course, Tokyo Route 246, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, and Suzuka. We'll run at Indy and Daytona three times, and the rest will be run once.

Online Rules

I'll make it very simple...

  • No vulgar or suggestive behavior online
  • STRICTLY no microphones allowed
  • Randoms will be booted
  • Driving Line ON
  • Automatic Transmission OPTIONAL
  • Skid Recovery Force OFF
  • ABS OPTIONAL
  • Racing Hards OR Rain/Intermidiates if necessary ONLY
  • Heavy damage ON
  • HP limited to ? (10% decrease on all cars)
  • KG (weight) is limited to stock or HEAVIER

A room number will posted ON THIS FORUM when racetime comes. Also, a 30-minute open qualifying session will start at 8:00 P.M. The race will start at 8:30. 2 pace laps (only 1 for La Sarthe) will commence before the green flag. You can ONLY put on the gas when the front of your car has come even with the finish line. Swerving is NOT ALLOWED! You are to go 50 MPH or below on the pace lap. If you break 50 MPH even by one MPH on a pace lap, you will be penalized. Finally, a race will not be held if there is 6 or less drivers participating.

OVERTAKING

Since it is NOT multi-class racing, lapping will probably not occur. But if it does, it is the faster car's job to get by the slower car. However, I, or any other driver, will not hold for aggressive, deliberate blocking. Penalties are confirmed to insue.

The rights to a corner go to the overtaking driver if he is half-way or more alongside the other car and he has the inside line. If he is on the outside line, he doesn't have the right to overtake. If it is curving back-and-forth section of track, it's up to the driver to report an incident they felt unfair and then it's the stewards' job to find the moment in the race replay and use the replay as a guide. The Moderator Board will make a private vote if the penalty could go either way (if the vote is even, I will break it up and my decision is final).

BLOCKING

You can block only once, and you must maintain your line once you've blocked. Penalties will insue if you block more than this limit. Also, you are allowed to squeeze a driver of the track IF YOU ARE NOT MAKING ANY CONTACT WITH HIM/HER! You must "fake" it. If you actually touch, a very large penalty will insue.

If a car locks up or comes careening down the track too fast, you must do your best to avoid him/her. If he/she makes contact with you, a large penalty will usually suffice.

You can bump draft on the straights, but not through them corners, boys! :sly: Seriously, you can! But not in the corners.

CONTACT

Minimal contact is unavoidable, but aggressive contact from old rivalries or anger or just plain ignorance will result in a penalty to the one who caused it. If it continues, one shall be banned from the season permanently or for four races.

THE TRACK

You can't cut the corners or swing wide EVER! I, or other moderators, are allowed to convict ANYONE including MYSELF of these things! As far as penalty and discipline goes, the other moderators on the board are just as powerful as I. If all four wheels go off the track to gain time, you will have a small to large time penalty, given the severity of the corner cutting. Also, depending on the track and corner, a time penalty will be given to those who swing wide off the corner where they could have avoided it.

Another few things: you must not rejoin the track on the racing line if you have spun out. You must reenter off the racing line and only when you get up to full speed can you enter the racing line.

PENALTIES

Rejoining the racing line after spin (15+ second penalty)
Vulgar or suggestive comments online (Exclusion from the rest of the season)
Corner cutting (10+ second penalty EACH TIME)
Going wide (5+ second penalty EACH TIME)
Deliberate, aggressive blocking (30+ second penalty)
Physically blocking into the grass (30+ second penalty)
Bump drafting in corners (20+ second penalty)
Dive bombing into a corner (1 minute penalty)
Swerving on pace lap (30+ second penalty)
Speeding up before finish line (10+ second penalty)
50 MPH+ on pace lap (10+ second penalty)

If you care to report an incident you were involved in, you must report it 24 hours or less after the incident via P.M. only! There is no moaning or groaning allowed about other drivers on this forum thread. You must tell what lap it was on and who you think should get a penalty and why.

Cut a few of the European races, and add a couple more oval races. Think about it, in the real Sprint Cup the road courses are vastly outnumbered by the Ovals. And just a bit of advice, before you start a series it might be wise to start a thread in Interest Checks to see who wants in. Hope this helped a bit 👍

Thanks, but I think for some people NASCAR is really at its best during road races. That's what I think. I don't know... :( I think may want to take your advice here, but I'm going to leave at least 4 road races.

I get your point, but for many people the thrill of NASCAR is all the cars running at pretty much full throttle for the entire race at close quarters, drafting and rubbing. Although I will admit some road courses can be fun in these cars. Good luck anyway 👍

True, in real life NASCAR does have alot more ovals than road courses. But in real life draft isn't as extreme as it is in GT5.
That being said, I am interested. If we get enough people signed up, I'll be there for sure.
And I'll take the 48 car.

Oh what a Suprise, the current Sprint Cup Champ, IROC Champ and Daytona 500 Champ wants his beloved #48.

OK, I'll take the 2011 version as you never advised which one you wanted 💡 Only joking Sir, you know I'm all #18.

However, I read this thread yesterday and as Tom (who runs the Indy Car Series with some more of us), and other said, there is quite a lot wrong.

By the way, anyone heard from Droptop and his S2?

That's why I'm glad they added a 'Slipstream Strength' setting in Spec 2 👍

Working on it.... ;)

Thanks for the responses! Also, I will write up a list of people who are "interested"!

Edit: I also believe that I will be creating another series to run similar schedules to this one. This is almost sort of an interest check at the moment, so if the other series rules out, I may go with that one. But we'll see! If we can get enough people enthusiastic about NASCAR road course racing, then we have liftoff.

Also, I will have access to my PS3 in 3 days... :)

Sorry for the double post, but this is important.

I've been doing some serious thinking, and after due consideration, I have concluded that from now on, I will be running an organization: the IGTRC (International Gran Turismo Racer's Federation). All events hosted by me will be headed with this title.
