Hey all.

I've been lurking around here for a while now, so I figured I might as well join. I messed around with GT 1 and 2 a bit before getting the GT3 PS2 bundle when I was about 13. I played it off and on but didnt get too into it. I bought GT 4 about 2 years ago and played the hell out of it simply due to the MASSIVE car(and truck) selection. I played with a lot of aids, and really handicapped the full enjoyment of it however.

I got my PS3 in December of last year, and GT5P shortly after. Im a full time student so I havent had as much time to dedicate to it as I would have liked; played up until midway through A before giving up not wanting to grind for the F430. I was playing on STD with a few aids- it was just too easy to be fun.

Since hearing about spec III, my interest was sparked again. This time I decided to start a new file on PRO with everyone off except for TCS 1. I've been having a BLAST with it, beating all of C and B with all golds (one on std..:sly:). I had to go down to std for more than a few A class races- I just unlocked S and got a hold of the Amuse S2k (man that thing is a kick in the pants).

I've dabbled in online, and usually enjoyed it even with the cheaters. Of course, Im still far from being a proficient enough driver to hang with most of you all, but im spending a lot of time chasing ghosts in time trials and really improving my exit speeds and lap times. Im still playing with a Sixaxis, but I'll go to a wheel when money allows.

I look forward to getting to know you guys (and gals) and improving my skills. My PSN is my name here: qwkbowtie.

See you on the track :)

Welcome officially :D

I'm currently waiting for the GTP registration qualifier to re-open so I can have a go at that. I'm not sure that every GTP_ tagged racer is going to be super quick (I'm hoping, more like!). I think the attitude is more important than the speed.

Anyways, nice GT story you have there. Glad you've gone Pro and have knocked off most of the aids. Work on getting TC off - it's better that way (although I still turn it on for certain cars).

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I'd like to kill TCS completely - I just cant imagine trying to get a GT (or the F430...) around the Daytona road course without, little own getting on the podium :nervous:. Im sure it would go a long way towards really learning the best lines, though.

Just as a test I decided to turn on all aids in my mini coop on Eiger reverse, and I was considerably slower than driving on my own. So- I must be improving.

Im using the Amuse S2k in the S class to work on my tuning skills. Im not even remotely competetive in S on Pro- silvers and golds on Std. Im an experienced drag racer, but setting up cars for anything other than planting the tires in a strait line is all new to me. I could use the tunes posted here, but I've intentionally kept myself from looking at them so I can learn the art on my own. Anyone have any tips? If drag really does get implemented in GT5, I'll be able to return the favor :sly:

Welcome!

You'll find some great set ups over in The Lion's Den. There are a lot of tunes that are pre-Spec III that may be a good starting point for a solid set up.

Hi qwkbowtie welcome to the GT Planet :)

I'm sure you'll love gt planet, its the best place for all things gran turismo and petrol heads tbh.

I sware i raced against you last night on Fuji Speedway 800pp ? were you driving a white Mines Skyline ?

Add me on psn by all means GTP_Morris !

Hey man, welcome to GTP. Don't let my user fool you, I've been here for 3 years and had over 5000 posts. In that time I gathered a reputation as GTP's local Holden/GM resident.;) So let me just say I agree whole-heartedly with your name.;):sly:

Hi mate welcome to GTP; the one stop for pretty much all things GT, if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
Take it easy mate.;)👍

Welcome! I've been the same way as you for a little while. Used to post a bit here and there, then fell off a bit. I just picked up my PS3 last night!

Hey welcome !!

Seeing as you are drag car tuner, traction being the name of the game, apply some of those rules to your road cars if you don't want to use(take advantage) of the popular tuner in THE LION"S DEN and there are others.

Edit: Cool read on the build, wish they had online when I was into rebuilds.Good stories when workin' on cars with ya mates late into the nights.

Again, thanks for the replies. I've been spending too much time around here reading up than I should be with homework and mid-terms =P.

Sorry, that wasn't me GTP_Morris - I dont own a Mine's Skyline. Hopefully I'll run into some of you (no pun intended.. lol) online.

I've been spending most of my time between tuning my s2k and TT's. I feel like i've reached a plateau, though- try as I might I cant seem to get much faster. I've tried slowing down and trying to become more smooth, but im slower. The only way I seem to be able to improve is just pushing that car THAT much further, braking later, using every inch of the curb~ maybe shaving a tenth or two off but often resulting in losing control or smacking a wall. Its very frustrating to spend an hour making hotlaps and only take a few tenths off my PR, while im still a full 2 seconds or more off the number 10 ghost.

Think I should get out of the S2000 for a while and go to a more powerful car? Im betting that if I learn to keep the GT/F430/T Z06 underneath me, it will make driving the S2000 quite a bit easier. Or, can you recommend me something to help bust this plateau?

edit: Zed, thanks for the compliments man. My 72' is my baby =D

I'm here here too! Welcome me and stuff!

Me and Gran Turismo are going out. And our relationship won't end anytime soon.

Welcome to the forums!

Don't let the punters come between your love affair!

You are going in the right direction. You will soon get comfortable with the extra speed and your times will drop.👍

So, im glad I took my own advice.

I took my GT to Suzuka with no aids whatsoever and pro physics. By about lap 3 (TT), I just "got it" - throttle modulation, smoothness, keeping the car under me. I cut my time by 3 seconds, followed by 1.5, followed by .5, .4, .3, etc.

For the first time I understand what everyone means by "slower is faster". It felt like I was litterally crawling around corners, yet I saw my ghost in the rear view each time. I am using a Sixaxis, so learning throttle control is tough with the X button (I could never get used to the right analog stick), but much easier to learn in a car that demands it. When my improvements began to plateau, I started pushing the car a little harder with later braking, a bit more entrance speed, and trying more aggressive lines. I ended up in the gravel on a lap or two braking too late, but I was still able to hold the beast under control. I got my time into the 2:18 range before watching a few replays of the WR (2:09.9)- I clearly see a few turns in which I need to reel the car back and several where I can push much harder. Of course, I still have a long way to go. But, it was a big breakthrough for me.

Just to see how it translated, I took my s2k (along with a variation of a tune from TLD) and EASILY got gold in Pro on S-1. I was working really hard for silver on STD just a few days ago. :)

Edit: This is the first time I've actually taken GT seriously - and I have really been missing out. My GT4 copy was lost a while ago... Im seriously considering buying another copy just to hone my skills in the license tests. Practicing and improving to earn a spot with you guys really makes the game more exciting.

Glad I could help.:) I think you'll like my garage more in the full game, lots of GM cars (and lots of others as well, but lots of GM cars.:sly:)

👍 If I ace it I hit the second apex on the first corner of Suzuka at a steady 75 MPH. I know I've aced it cos it feels sooooo slooooow. On the other hand a line that gives me 69-73mph feels fast as hell.

until I see my ghost lap pulling away on the exit
