I don't necessarily think he is over-rated as I think he isn't the smartest driver in the lead. Why don't you think Sainz is over-rated as well, or maybe Panizzi is as he can only seem to win on tarmac. I do think McRae has a bit of a temperment problem. Remember he didn't crash until the "team" gave him the wrong split time and said he was up somehting like 4 seconds. When in reality he was just barely even with Gronholm. So the next stage (1st crash) he pushed (and too hard IMO) to make up time the team had screwed him with. He subsequently lost 2+ minutes and decided to push for a driver's point paying position and crashed again (still mad I would bet) only to lose more time.
Granted, he WAS driving the car, but when your told bogus information it matters.
I think all those guys deserve to be in the car as they are the best in the world at what they do. Just like F1, the worst guys aren't the worst drivers', they are just in the worst cars.
And on Makinen, who I like, he hasn't done anything but retire his car since Monte Carlo. Although his 3rd place is an impressive finish after a bad first day.
It has to do with luck and a bunch of other factors.
Sorry, but I think you're wrong. Makinen has crashed this year twice while being hammered by Solberg. Last year he had a big off in Sweden trying to catch Rovanpera in another Lancer, and he also crashed on Stage One of the Rally Finland.
McRae is definitely going through a period of over-emotion, and he is better chasing than leading. I hope he gets over it, but it's a bit early to be writing him off I think.
Well - Tommi has four championships - and after the couple of big ones he had last year (including the beauty at the RAC) and then the nonsense at Cyprus - I'm just starting to think we're seeing desperation coming into his driving.
Vat you make a good point. Desperation. He seems like an overly emotional driver. Not the perfect mix when the only indication you have of how well your doing is on a watch. He needs to change his approach. Maybe less emotional and more technical. Sainz seems to have the Ford sorted out.

im beginnin not to like him
even though he is driving for ford
he shouldnt be kicking his car to tryin to fix it
he is such unhappy guy
geezz he get pay millions and the lastthing that he wanted to do is showing off his emotion that may ruin ford decline in selling
i hope he won't be driving for subaru next year
😈
I don't think he's overated, it's just that when he drive it's all or nothing. He either wins or crashes and burns.(not Richard) Vat Man you an Aussie, why isn't that Possum guy(can't remember his last name) in the WRC, he's an outstanding driver, has he ever had a chance with the Subaru-Prodrive WRC team?
