A few days ago I started playing GT5 again, I stopped for a few months. I decided to try my 1st tune from some of the tuners in here and it totally amazes me how it totally transforms the car and driving experience. I wouldn't have thought it made such a dramatic difference. Most of the tunes I've tried made the car a real joy to drive and the handling is superior.

It's great because it gives new life to this game all over again! Tuning is a big part of this game and it never gets old, trying to find that perfect tune to beat out your previous tune.

I'm assuming that adjusting the gear ratios plays the biggest and most important factor in getting your car to perform well. I know it all works together, transmission, suspension, etc. But I think the biggest factor is the gears. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Can someone explain to me how do you fine tune your gear ratios? I see a lot of tuners in hear give us a general tune, but to fine tune it for each track you only adjust the final gear ratio to match the fastest top speed of any given track? Someone please explain to me how it works.

If you are into fine tuning just adjusting the final gear ratio is not the be all and end all, that only helps on the straights ideally you dont want to be hitting the rev limiter mid corner in a lower gear. Generally i dont worry too much about first gear as once you are rolling you wont use it but then you can adjust gears in between by maybe dropping second gear a bit or even raisning it just so as you can accelerate out of a corner on to the straight before needing to change gear. Try it on your favourite track if you find you need to change gear just as you hit the apex you might want to try raising it a few notches to give you and edge on the competition.
Most tuners tend to stick to one track and set the gearing then start tuning the car to get quicker times. Although some people can tune cars without even driving them.

tuning can be fun and rewarding or really frustrating.....depends on the style of your driving and the vehicle you are driving. But in the end the feeling is always the same....you feel like you are the master of tuning when done tuning the vehicle LOL

Gears can make the biggest difference, Suspension usually makes a bigger difference than gears on cars with good power-bands, where gears are more likely to define a peaky motor.

You haven't finished your tune until you've selected your gears and settings for specific corners of the tracks. :sly:

Look in Praiano's thread for transmission tuning tips.

I think the default transmission setting are (one of) the manufacturers production settings. Manufacturers focus on 0-60 (0-100kph) and that's not optimal for racing.

Many people keep setup sheets for a car for each track because the tunes you find in this forum are usually (very good, but) generic. The lap times can be improved by further adjustment for the conditions of each race.

You are correct that all elements of the tune need to work together to achieve the best result. So, don't focus too much on one component - like gearing.

Not to argue with some of the better drivers you will find around...but for what its worth, and this is just my opinion, you need to have a good suspension setup or a set of perfect gears won't help you any. With a car that handles very good for your driving style good gears will help it get that extra edge in performance. If the car doesn't handle good you'll not often get the chance to take advantage of the nice gears. That said I'm not even close to being the sort of driver that CSLACR is, so take my thoughts as you will.

Getting a car to handle good and having someone tell you how great it is compared to stock is one of the best feelings I can get in the game. So enjoy the driving and give tunes from the various garages a try. 👍👍
