I don't know why, but the PS2 doesn't work with the good ones. I have an Enhanced VD-Z3 (from VDigi) which is the converter of choice for xbox users, and with an xbox, it converts 480p, 720p, and 1080i without a problem (very nicely in fact). however, the xbox doesn't work well with the 'cheap' vga boxes you find on eBay (they basically just do some scanline conversion or something).

on the other hand, those cheap boxes do an adequate job with the PS2. they can also display 480i while the VDigi and other devices can not. i set the system config to the HDTV output instead of RGB and the monitor just doesn't display anything ("out of scan mode")....and yes i know the monitor will display 1080i and 720p as i can turn those on from within Windows XP.

i think it might have something to do with the PS2's weird proprietary way of outputting HD signals whereas the XBox seems to natively support it in hardware.

if anyone's been able to get past this let me know, otherwise don't plan on enjoying high-res GT4 action on your computer monitor.

Intresting, you are aware that 1080i and 480p are only available while you are in a race tough right? if you are out of a race (menus, car selection, GT mode, arcade mode, whatever else) it reverts back to 480i untill you go back into a race, and it's also not possible to save the 1080i or 480p settings, so in a nutshell, GT4 requires 480i.
My dad is very intrested in getting a component to VGA adapter to play GT4 (i told him he should just buy a cable that doesn't just do scanline conversion, and just works as a passtrough cable. But for that to work his monitor needs to accept sync on blue, (like HDTV's do) and sadly i have no way of knowing if it does.

well you could get it to work if you bought two adapters, and changed the cables before/after every race so you have a crappy adapter for 480i and the VDigi for 1080i

seems to be the cheapest solution if the monitor doesn't accept sync on blue, but very inconvinient.

Hello,
I have purchased a "Blaze" PS2 Hi-Resolution VGA Adaptor (USA Version), and tried it with GT4 last night. In the "Blaze" included software, the game is not on the list of supported games (which is probably my answer...) and 'suprise' the game did run on my monitor, but it looks like total crap. I tried the various settings in the software, "Vertical", "Horizontal", and a few others, and I couldn't get it to look correct on the monitor screen. Perhaps I need a different adapter, or the correct settings, or I have to wait for "Blaze" to update the software to include the game. (It does support GT3). Anyway I'm a little miffed at the moment, and the service support for this "Blaze" product is non-existant. The search for more answers continues...

The more expensive adaptors do work flawlessly with the PS2, the problem lies within the connected screen. The standard output of the Playstation2 is 480i, which only very few screens can actually display. Using 480p and 1080i in GT4, almost every monitor works just fine. And like SaintKamus said, you only get that while racing in GT4. So, there's no point in getting a high quality VGA adaptor for your PS2 if your monitor can't do 480i. Unfortunately only very few can, and you usually can't see it in the specs, so it's a game of chance to have one.

Ok, my first post. So please direct me to another if this has already been asked.

I used to be a GT3 addict, a couple of years ago. Now I am a Tiger Woods 2k5 addict and my son a Call of Duty addict, all PC based.

But now that GT4 has come out, I decided to buy the DFP and go full bore into GT4. I also want to get the best picture possible, as I assume the Playstation 2 won't come close to matching what we experience with our PC games.

I currently have a Toshiba 50H82 widescreen HDTV and associated 5.1 sound system. My playstation only has RCA composite outputs (plus I believe there is an optical audio output). My HDTV has 2 component inputs, both currently filled, 1 to DVR and the other to DVD.

Question: Should I buy a S-video cable for my PS2 or Component Cables? Will there be that significant of a difference? Remember, I will have to unplug 1 of my current component inputs in order to accomodate the PS2.

Also, what and where should I buy these cable? What's the best brand? Is a moderate brand just as good?

Thanks for any help.

If your receiver doesn't have a component in/out switch to allow multiple things to be plugged in get an external component video switch. That way you can enjoy GT4 in 1080i instead of 480i. Makes a huge difference on my 46" mits. Don't waste your time with the s-video.

As a side note does anyone know why it doesn't seem to save the high definition settings? It seems like evertime I load the game I have to go in and turn 1080i back on. It remembers the 16x9 but not the HD.

I think it has something to do with all the menus and non-racing stuff, only being 480, so it defaults back all the time. But don't hold me to that. :)
