Impreza Handling and Skyline underapreciation

Does anyone else think that the Impreza coupe has atrocious handling considering is size and the fact that its 4wd? The Skyline R34 is longer yet way easier to steer and is generally a pretty amazing car yet why does nobody ever mention it on these forums?

Lol, I can see where you're coming from. I don't think the Impreza (and Lancer) have horrible handling, but you're right...everyone praises these 2 makes like they're god's gift to motoring. Meanwhile, they do have some pretty impressively BAD handling traits at times, just like any other car. Mostly lots of understeer. They also burn front tires out like a FWD car in enduros. :indiff:

I don't think Skylines are underappreciated, though. If anything, I think they're hyped by most people. I admit, after I drove an R34 Vspec in an actual race last summer, I was pretty impressed...especially with the way this car turns in corners, hangs on, and finally gives just a bit of understeer to let you know not to push any further.

Some later Skylines have 4-wheel steering that actually works correctly...that's where they have their advantage. It seems to work in the game, too.

Personally...NO. :irked:

I've got a 22B that can out-run a similarly equipped/tuned R34.

If you modify a GC8 properly, it can be the fastest car in it's class.

He hee. And i got a 4WD Opti Club that'll skool both of them!

..just kidding

are u talking about the impreza wrx-R? i love this car and i dont even like subaru lol

without these 2 cars i would be broke ( i spent all cash in pic lol, experimented,as u can see i have a Race Silvia, skyline and wrx made me almost 400k )

i think the impreza handles just fine. But i dont think a 22B can outrun a Similar tuned Skyline around a track, maybe in straight line speed for abit but no way.

( i ran the 22B in GT3 rome endurance,great car )

well for one in Gran turismo 4, i bought all the skylines ( 50+ ? ) and every Impreza & evo, tested them in B-Spec mode So theres no human error with similar settings across the board, ran them on almost every track, saved ghost laps then compared them, Skyline would outpace the evo and imprezas by Atleast 3-4 seconds ( more for longer tracks ), thats including the 22B ( fastest impreza ive tested ), plus figures show, Stage 4/5 turbo Skylines output rises to 700/800kw and Imprezas Are limited to 400/500kw, i did this all recently to find a car that can outpace a Typhoon F6 as i was about to race my bro, same goes for wrx/evo , wrx has speed, evo has the handling thanks to AYC ( personal experiences ), but if were talking stock, im pretty sure a 22B can outpace a R34 Skyline, ill try that out pretty soon, and i use Gran turismo 4 as the benchmark since its the latest game and more accurate to test these things out.

At the Grindelwald Time Trial, I have defeated OrCa's [R]R34 with my [R]22B.

Very interesting :) and great effort 👍. I think I will try to see if GT2 stock R34 can match 22B in dual player B-Spec mode :). I'll post snapshot later.....

This brings up one other thing too, power vs weight. The Skyline has the horsepower, but the Impreza has the weight.
Maybe I will do some tests too.

in the tests i done, straight off my head, at deep forest raceway, skylines laped 1:17.XX in B-Spec and Wr'xs, ranged in 1'20 - 1'22 lap times, watching the ghost times on level 4,skylines have faster exit speed and wrx has faster entry but slow exit speed,i really wanted to use a wrx but i cant find the pace in them when i tested. I was very disapointed in the imprezas as it was my first choise against my bros Typhoon, but if we put more laps in 2 player battle i probably would have been overlaped with the gaps in the times both cars produce per lap, and the skyline is a match for the typhoon so if it was a wrx vs skyline, think about it. wrx vs skyline at the Ring = embarisment lol

but if we are talking about Gran turismo 2 i think it will be the same with the skyline dominating, since i use epsx ill take some snap shots of both tuned wrx and skylines on all the tracks and compare them. And since theres no B-Spec mode, ill have to take extra care so theres no mistakes etc

I try the R34 vs 22B battle in GT2 B-Spec mode dual player yesterday. When both is stock, the 22B better power to weight ratio made it win the race easily, after the first corner R34 started to get left behind. To get the same power to weight ratio, I should increase the R34 power to at least 355hp. I try the second run with equiping R34 with racing muffler, which increase the power to 345hp.

At 345hp, both car is equal, but R34 better launch capability make it able to take the lead at the first corner. 22B can only pass it after slipstreaming at the straight. But at the next lap R34 will pass it too after slip streaming at the straight. For endurance, the R34 heavier body make the tire wear out faster. The R34 front tire get green faster than 22B, it will get red faster too.

1st run, stock:

2nd run, 345hp R34

GT2 Skyline R34 vs Subaru 22B video

Example of passing, 22B always take wide cornering.

Which one better? I don't know. 22B is not exactly "stock" and R34 is heavy.

Good job sucahyo:tup:, I tested at SSR5 and had a little different results.
I was doing the driving and the Skyline was faster but only in the straight.
Here are some picture's.

Also I try this in GT4 but it came out alot different. The Skyline wiped the floor
with the 22B Sti. By about 2 sec's. I have the replay's for both game's if
anyone want's them.

Hmmmm...those are some interesting results...👍

But...I personally dislike AI testing...👎:yuck:
It seems like AI never takes the car to it's limit, or takes the best lines/changes braking points in accordance with suspension adjustments...Also, consider that although AI usually interprets understeer set-ups as "slower entry speed" and oversteer set-ups as "faster entry speed", a skilled human driver can make an understeer biased car go faster in entries and exits than an oversteer biased car! (to a certain extent lol)

That's why I don't really like B-Spec stuff...

It can be...dare I say..."decieving"

I like the idea of B-spec, but I'll be doing most of my driving myself in GT4. Still, Suc's results are always interesting.👍

Don't worry RonThomp, in GT2 B-Spec mode 22B will always win when both is stock :). There is something video can't show which should explain why R34 can win easily when both has the same power to weight ratio, R34 has much better tourqe to weight ratio "22B 293hp/6000rpm 287lb-ft/3000rpm" vs "R34 345hp/7500rpm 347.9lb-ft/4500rpm"
:D.

in GT4 which one has better handling?

Oh I see...

lol thanks for the info Suchayo 👍

Actually every GT-R model since 1989 (when the first R32 GT-R was introduced) has had that four-wheel steering in real life. No idea if it was implemented in GT2 though...

I don't know either if they got it in GT2. My assumption is that they at least tried to have 4-wheel steering in the game.
