Improved AI and "Blindspot indicator"

Moments ago Jordan posted a story about his impressions of the newest (and probably final) build of GT6 and in the story he talks at length about the new AI and even mentions a new feature called the "blindspot indicator" Here are some bits from the story.

"it was immediately clear that there have been significant changes to the artificial intelligence of the other drivers"

"They no longer drive as “ducks-in-a-row”, as we saw in almost every race in GT5. They were actually racing with each other, going two – and once nearly three – wide into corners."

"I felt like I would need to push and drive defensively if I wanted to get ahead and win."

This all sounds promising and should certainly up the fun factor when playing A-spec!

As for the "blindspot indicator", This is what Jordan had to say about it.

"When enabled, a small red arrow blinks if there’s another car beside you – important information if you can’t see the mirrors in your preferred driving view."

Personally, I'm surprised by it being in the game but as someone who normally drives in first person I'm glad it's there. I hate accidentally turning into someone that I didn't know was there so hopefully this will help minimize those incidents.

So what do you guys think about the new AI and the new surprise feature?

I normally think about the AI when I'm reading the AI thread, and the other feature... probably news and discussion.

I hope he's talking about AI improvements that have happened since the GT Academy Demo because I was not impressed with the AI at all.

Why do you expect so much? The PS3 probably can't even handle a feature like that since PD has already maxed it out.
It's already in GT5, you just needed to access the special menu to get to it...and it worked like a charm.

Both features would require me to actually play the game to form an opinion of it. There are other games (Race Driver series in particular) that use a red arrow that tracks cars immediately behind the player. Those are fine. As for PD's feature, I can see the logic in why they wouldn't make it track across the screen. But I would really have to play the game or see some videos to get a proper impression of it.

I have heard the old 'improved AI' story before, so no disrespect to anyone, but I would have to see it with my own eyes to judge whether the changes are sufficient.

This "blindspot indicator" could be rather useful for online racing. I don't see a need for it offline though.

"We also got another surprise – the “full” version of the game was on display, and those of us at the event would be the first people outside of Polyphony Digital to get our hands on it."

I would think you will be safe in thinking that based on Jordan's info from the write up

He said it was the full version on display, yet Kaz was back at the studio putting the final touches on the game........
The final version will be the copy that goes gold, and they'll be working pretty darn hard to get as much crammed in as they can, up to the moment that disc goes out the door.

With a big first day patch coming, and the fact that online updates come for most games out there (consoles and PCs), a game going gold doesn't really hold that same effect now. The final version of GT6 will be the final update we get well after release, presumably closer to the GT7 release date.

The improved Ai can only be an improvement, sounds like this one is going to be a lot of fun, so very pleased to hear it.

If the blindspot indicator can be turned off, it's great!

Personally this is probably one of the single biggest advances I'll actually notice in GT6. I've raced with bumper cam since day 1 of GT1, and it's always difficult to judge when you've cleared somebody (or not). I think it's a great feature and I'd have never thought about suggesting it!

I can also see the blindspot indicator being a bad thing online.

Imagine;

You're going down the Kemmel straight on Spa side by side with someone and you're going for an overtake.

Both your blindspot indicators are blinking and you're aware he's there so you don't squeeze him off if you make the corner first and then 'Whack' he's side swiped you because he's known you're trying to overtake.

I'm delighted that the AI will be at least improved in GT6 as for me it was a game killer in GT5.
It would make a difference indeed, even if they would still be "slowish" you could downgrade yourself again (PP wise), and there should be some fun racing there.

In GT5 even that didn't help, if they were on your pace when you drove with 50PP less than them; they would still irritate the hell out of you because of their lameness...

I just use the side view and rear view cameras (on the wheel joypad)

Finally a little news about the AI! I'm also hoping that we can adjust the difficultly and aggressiveness of the AI. It would be great to be able to tune the AI for either a serious or fun experience.

I like the idea of a blindspot indicator. As someone who races with a wheel I have buttons programmed to look left and right and use them often. The new indicator should really help those using controllers. If all works well it will be like having a spotter.

I always wanted something like in iRacing telling you if someone if beside you.

This arrow indicator is defenetly a good start. I'll be using it for sure since I drive in "bumper" mode.

The blindspot indicator is also close to reality; many racecars nowadays have monitors to check what's behind, and on them arrows also appear when someone is next to them.

I used to zoom the onscreen track layout all the way in.
You could roughly see if there was someone in your blind spot or beside you.

Curious to see what they've come up with.
