Ok, look, I know that my lines could be better. They cost me about 2 seconds compared to the best out there, but I think being that close is pretty darn ok.

So, in today's Lago Maggiore GR3 daily, I decided to run the RC-F. I was pretty pleased with a 1:57:1 qualifying. I started 3rd for the race in the video (the two guys in front were on 1:56.8's). HOWEVER, in both the video clip, and the previous race, after being in (back to back) podium battles, my pit crew let me down. In the first race, I was upset, but thought it was an isolated incident and a potential random factor gone wrong. Then, it happened again, but worse, in the second race.

The pit crew just SITS THERE for five whole seconds. I mean, I like the idea of a random factor, but IMHO, it should be less that 1 second of randomness because 1 second can make or break the race. FIVE SECONDS IS INTOLERABLE! To say that this upsets me is an understatement. This upsets me more than a bad driver.

See for yourself. From the time the car comes to a complete stop to the when the tire change starts is five whole seconds.

This might look innocent enough, but this affects so much. It dropped me from 3rd to 9th! Luckily, with some luck, I clawed back to 6th, but I should have been in that podium fight all the way. This affects DR and XP, not to mention the rage it causes.

It's like it is a 5 second time penalty in F1 where you take a penalty before they can touch the car.

I've had it a few times, don't think I've ever had a 'Slow Down' penalty whilst going in.

*Speculation* Could it possibly be going full speed into the pit, getting an invisible pit lane speeding penalty?

Could just be a bug though

Looks good to me! (I was raised by a family of Sloths :D )

You're right, that seemed messed up. I looked up other pit crew videos for GTS on youtube and I didn't see anything like super long pause there before changing the tires.

Nope, as soon as you hit the speed limit line, you go into the automated sequence. You can race in as fast as you like. There's no warning as to what the "speed limit" maybe any way, even if there was one.

It just looks like an unscrewing bolts animation didn't play, because right after that the tires come off

Unscrewing the bolts (the animation) only takes a moment, not five seconds.

My own pit gripe from yesterday is that it wouldn’t stop refuelling until the tank was full. It only happened once so I put it down to one off glitch. Those seconds seem to last a long time though!

For me it's different...My car usually takes about 7 seconds to reach the pit stop crew and pull over, after that the animations play without any issues.

I would rule this out on Internet connections not synching properly with the cutscene(because mine's on 2mb/s of download, so you can imagine the BS i deal with), but it's just a wild guess.

The only time I have had to alter my speed into the pits is Brands Hatch, but that is because there is a corner at the entry and if you cut it you incur a penalty. But you can go into that pit so fast you will slam into the wall, but the animation starts right before you hit it.

As far as the pit crew standing there I have always assumed that the animation itself is meaningless and the time waiting has more to do with how far down pit road you are. Thus, if you wait longer for your car to get serviced, you should have a correspondingly shorter exit.

How long did it take you to select tires? if you saw the tire selection screen for a couple of seconds before pressing button could explain it?

I counted 3 seconds from you being stopped to them getting on with it.

Looks like they are still refuelling? Did you press the stop fuelling button?

I'm talking about the time between the stop and the tire change. The refuel was fine.

Immediate. I hammered the button on the way in. I count five from stop to change (according to the timeline)

I'm relieved about that, as I don't always press the button when it first pops up as I am worried of clicking the wrong thing. I would hate to think im sat in the pits with nothing happening.

Did you pessed the button to confirm tyres before? did you have any pending penalty? the other day I had a 1,5 sec penalty due a run in the grass prior to go to pits and the penalty was applied there

Agreed cost me 5 places in my last race. I though it was a bug but sounds like it's raining Dom timing. My interlagos pit stop was 38 seconds!

Tire button pressed the moment it appeared. No penalty. I don't mind if it's a long pit lane, like Interlagos, but just sitting there is dumb. I benefited from it today as well. I was in a 5 way fight for the lead, the first two cars had issues, I pit...they still sat there for like 3 seconds...but the other drivers must have had longer delays. I exited behind a back marker who moved out of the way and I had an instant 3 second lead.

If everyone's pit stops where identical and exactly the same every time the game would be considered genius. Even if this was a bug, big deal, I've seen way worse rl pit stops although I have to admit seeing an irate driver yelling at his crew after the race is always fun.

Nothing wrong with this IMO.

My take on the issue:

The higher you start on the grid, the longer your crew will wait (provided you choose the tires immediately after entering the pit lane). This happens because the game has to account for the distance the car needs to cover from the start of the pit lane until the pit box. The higher you start on the grid, the longer the distance will be, because usually the driver in pole position has the first pit garage.

Since the game doesn't show the animation of the car driving through the whole pit lane until it reaches the garage, that time needs to be added somewhere. And I guess the waiting of the pit crew reflects just that.

Also, it might be important to add that this makes sense IMO. If we saw the animation of the car entering the pit lane, the driver who started last in the grid would have way less time to choose/select his tire option. With the system we have, all the drivers have the same time, I guess, to make their choices. Then, the game makes the calculations automatically.

Since you started 3rd and you mashed the buttons to select your tires as soon as you entered the pit lane, the game made the time adjustments when the car reached the garage. You would have to wait that time anyway, there or somewhere else, with another screen.
