I was looking through the website ultimatecarpage at the specs of LMP cars, and it struck me how woefully wrong they are on GT5 - look at these statistics:

Car (REAL LIFE HP / GT5 HP)

Audi R8 '01 (610 / 822)
Audi R8 '05 (520 / 818)
Bentley Speed 8 (615 / 814)
BMW V12 LMR (580 / 764)
Pescarolo Courage-Judd GV5 (600 / 770)
Pescarolo C60 Hybride (660 / 905 with over 1000 possible)
Pescarolo Courage C60 Peugeot ((510 / 828)
Peugeot 908 (700 / 725)
Toyota GT-One (600 / 803)

All of these make no sense - what were PD thinking when they did it?

Are the GT5 ones tuned?

I took a look around mygranturismo.net and saw that the HP was different then the ones you listed. Are you wrong or are they?

EDITED before reading CAM's post.

The general consensus is that PD used the horsepower figures that could be attained without series restrictions, not the real life race spec numbers.

No, ED, those are closer to stock GT5 numbers. I collect LMPs 👍.

I know that cars like the R8 in '05 were restricted but even then it seems a little extreme...

Yep thats what I did actually. Now if only online you could set individual weight restrictions...

That's one of the 2 wishes I want in GT5. Before this starts into a wishlist thread, with less HP is it giving you more control? Or is it just the same only not as fast through the straights? Not sure as I don't drive LMP cars.

I think it bit more control. Certainly compromises speed.

Most of the time a Team would also restrict the max HP/max redline(RPM) to ensure reliability. Take the Mazda 787B, for example. It's capable of producing over 930HP and relined at 10,500rpm but in a race like Le Mans where the car needs to run a whole day, they've brought the number down to 700HP and 9000rpm.

This is something I wish we could do... play with the power-band. Add in the reliability (Engine percentage like in F1 2010), and that'd make some awesome racing. Not to mention make the engine rebuilds a little more meaningful.

Why though? Those cars have never run with that kind of power so why put them in the game like it? That Pescarolo Hybride which the AI always drive near the front is the most annoying.

Because people want the maximum power out of a car. If someone with little knowledge of cars sees that Gran Turismo has a large selection of race cars with almost 1000 horsepower, that's a selling point. It's also pretty fun to try and drive them at full power.

I have a GT-One that I restricted to 680 HP for an organized online race event and spotted two immediate changes: more control but reduced speed. So yes, you're right about that.

@ CAM

That is true. However, I doubt PD was aiming towards the "marketing" angle. Sony does a bit, though (reason why they released earlier than what Kaz had hoped). And plus, many people would also like LMPs power similar to the ones IRL. Perhaps an option to switch between regulations and no regulations would fix this.

It could. And I would rather have both options, which is what you get with the current specs, than only the regulation option. Also, you must remember that the extra HP could be for less talented drivers to pass harder events.

You have a point. But some drivers would like the regulations to exist in the game, at least have an option do switch between them, as I suggested on my previous post. This would balance the less talented and the more talented.

It seems like most drivers who want them to be competition spec have enough sense to find said specs, so it doesn't seem to be a problem 👍.

It has almost 800 horsepower stock (778). It will break 900 with a full turbo and break-in. I believe the general maximum is 928-929 horsepower.

That may be true for us but what about the AI? I'm not going to win the LM24 with 300hp less than the AI.
