We always knew they were coming back. After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

When I was 12 Independence Day was the best film ever. It's rubbish now, and this sequel will be even worse.

.......So they are gonna do this for real? Man, Roland Emmerich must be desparate for another big blockbuster under his belt...
The first film has....aged okay, but can't really see how a sequel would work...:indiff:

Easy: one of the alien ships got away and went back home for help. Now they're back for round 2. Not so far fetched.
.........Soooo the world has rebuilt all 'em cities back again, just to be blown up to smithereens, AGAIN? After all, those scenes were the "money shots" of original ID4, right?

What if it's set 1000 years in the future and it's the humans who invade other planets?

Oh wait... That sounds familiar...

Or maybe they're out on a revenge quest.

I was 11 and I was just starting to learn English. "Independence" was the most bizarre word ever and after all these years, I still need a google help to write it right, lol. Otherwise the movie was awesome, but now I just laugh at it.

1,000 years in the future with some of the same actors isn't going to work right.

.........Presumably Mr. Smith took a gander at the, ahem, "screenplay". He doesn't need any more flak for being in a bad, bad movie....*cough After Earth cough*

Edit: Oh, Winter's Tale too. Can't forget that one, no, no.

I wouldn't call the original movie terrible, given the time period in which is was released. But that's all a matter of opinion, and some people might still enjoy it. (me)

They're having a live stream for something in a few minutes.

Edit: Title announcement (thread title changed)

It's a bit cheesy though, this stream.

Probably the same reason why they keep releasing Spider Man movies: money.
Clearly, the aliens have been making the Spider-Man movies to raise enough money to develop a Jeff Goldblum-proof operating system.

Who needs a screenwriting degree? This stuff practically writes itself!

...Well that was quick - I just saw this, like two minutes ago on Youtube!!

Yeah well, no Will Smith and only a single joke in the trailer. Don't tell me it's going to be all gritty and uber serious...

I'm on facebook & YouTube too much really, I'm always right on top of this stuff. :P

Will was being greedy and asking for too much money so they told him they didn't need him that much.

Edit: if you go to warof1996.com it's got a cool interactive map with some info about what happened after the first movie.

Needs more Will Smith. But it may be an interesting film.

Going by their new backstory site...

He's dead, Jim.

I also wouldn't be even remotely surprised if the "alien resistance" has gained control of the local government, given their refusal of help. We know they can control people.
