I'm supporting this movie for one reason only, Stargate. Hopefully, if this is successful, maybe the birdbrains over at MGM will decide to allow for another Stargate film (even though it won't star Kurt Russell and James Spader).

I loved ID4 when it first came out and still enjoy it for some fun. I'll likely see this one. The trailer got my attention enough to make me see what they do.

That said, the cast virtually reads like a celebrity reality show now. Liam Hemsworth looks to be their Will Smith star appeal replacement, but I can't say he really has more draw with anyone other than fan girls. He's not as widely liked as Will Smith was. Maybe if they'd gotten Chris, but he's busy in Asgard.

The only thing supporting this film will accomplish is another ID4 film. :P

Chris might just be smarter... though really, I can't think of many actors today that are as well-liked as Will Smith was back in the mid-90's.

Actually, getting the younger Hemsworth for the fan girls might be a smart move, since guys will be more likely drawn in by the returning actors than any young eye-candy. Grizzly Pullman? Ian Malcolm? Sign me up!

That is the ultimate goal in the end, but you know that the Stargate push would get stronger if this film is successful. It will prove that Roland Emmerich has some form of staying power.

Oh yes.

Although, at this point it would morph into a full-on reboot...

Earth Day you say? Better roll the second trailer:

With an interesting twist:

To help us all defend our planet, this weekend the original INDEPENDENCE DAY (1996) movie will be available for only $0.99 on Google Play, with all of Fox’s net proceeds being donated to Earth Day Network! Get your $0.99 download of ID4 here:http://bitly.com/1qWSDvc.

Looks a little over the top. Sort of Michael Bay-ish. I may still go see it, but it's dropped a level or two on my "must see" list.

53% so far, which is a little higher than I'm guessing it will end up. Embargoing reviews until release is never a good sign – that's the current plan in the US – and there's talk that Finding Dory will hold onto the top spot this weekend, which would be a bit of a surprise, even if it's the better film.

"Worst movie of the year".

Well, guess that seals it for me. I'll wait for RedBox or something...

I'm willing to bet that either of those two idiots missed the charm of the first film. I may see it today or tomorrow.

They're hardly idiots, and if you actually watched the video you would have heard them say they loved the first film multiple times...

Thread necro incoming!

Just watched this today. Surely, it doesn't have the same impact as the original, but I still think it's a decent movie. Had some good action sequences and some good jokes too. 7/10 from me. So shoot me for it.
